I tried to wait a couple of hours to post my thoughts so that I didn't come off as too knee jerk. But the more I think about it, the more upset I am with the way this team is being run.

There is no excuse for the way that our guys defend, switch, hedge, box-out, or stand around. That defense was atrocious. And that all should come from effort. Effort is coachable and should be demanded. Its obviously not demanded by this staff.

Something better get done quick.

Thank you. :clap

Bigtime its obvious at this time there are severe deficiencies in how our guys approach games and their knowledge of how to properly play defense. (I'll leave what we do on offense alone just because).

Our guys again (similar to last year) have no idea how to play any semblance of team, help defense nor how to box out and rebound the basketball. I mean we know we lack for size, every defensive possession all 5 guys should be crashing the defensive boards to ensure we get the ball. What happens however is 2 guys running up court, 1 guy boxing out, and 2 others standing around watching the ball.

I learned better fundamentals then this during my HS AAU leagues and we didn't play any damn defense at all. I'm at a loss for words because I'm so embarrassed right now at the state of this program and the leadership of the program.

I think I could handle it better if we didnt have one guy out there (Cade) playing his heart out.

But as it is, I am depressed.

We all appreciate Cade. Super effort, super kid. For that matter, I appreciate all the young men wearing Sooner uniforms. We just aren't getting it done and changes have to be made at some point.

it really is confusing...i know Capel knows the game, but somehow it is not getting passed on to his players...Talent isnt there obviously, but neither is any concept of the game...

I want to just enjoy this team for what it is, but there is no reason on earth a Major Division 1 team should ever lose to a D2 school...i know it has happened before, but lets not get in an argument trying to defend some other helpless D1 team losing to a D2 (i know a highly ranked Virginia team lost to Chaminade)...THIS IS OKLAHOMA BASKETBALL

This is no different than what I was saying last year and all the way back to Capels first year. It's about time you came to your senses.

Had somebody told me 10 or even 20 years ago the OU program would fall to this level I never would have believed it. Never.

I'm not sure. We haven't play very good defense with any of his teams. I watch teams like Davidson two years ago and Butler last year and see that they get it. They played great defense and found enough offensive talent (yes, I realize Curry was a star but so was Blake G) to be fierce competitors. We do not have the offensive talent to come close to what they did but we could be competitive if we knew how to play defense. So far, I do not see an issue with the players on the floor (unlike last year). I think they want to compete.

This team just does not know how to play defense because no one is showing them how to play defense. After this many years I have to assume that we don't have anyone that can show them.

My thoughts exactly! I can live with losses when our players compete and play like they have a clue. But if not for Cade Davis, today's game would have been another double digit loss to a team that should never have been in a position to beat OU in the first place.

A possession at around the 2:19 mark is an example of one of the many things wrong with this team. Cade cuts through the lane to set up for a shot at the top of the key. He receives the pass and launches a good look at a three. Cam flies in from the wing in an attempt to get in position for the rebound. He's a step or two too late and finds himself blocked out. Props to him for at least trying.

Drew and Thompson, who are still fifteen feet or more from the basket, make no effort whatsoever to rebound the missed shot. They're standing around looking totally lost at a crucial point of the game. There is no freaking excuse for that!

I saw plays similar to the one I described throughout today's game. Our defense was even worse. I'm so pissed off right now I refuse to discuss that part of the game. I'm out of here before I say something I'll regret!

We knew before the season started that (even the optomistic ones)we wouldnt be talented. This situation made defense and rebounding absolutely key to getting wins. Both are effort based. We are getting neither and not getting better at either. The talenty level is much worse than the most pessimistic of us thought. Not sure how much Capel can do about that. You can demand all you want, but like talking to TMG, it's impossible to get through to some.

These seem to be good kids though. I've gotten to know most of them via the Capelables.

I think Capel can have a lot to do with how hard these kids play when they are on the court. In a lot of ways, that is his main job as a basketball coach. I didn't see the effort today and I didn't see it yesterday. It was pitiful to watch.

I knew this wasn't going to be a good year. I lowered my expectations. But I expected to see effort and hustle in EVERY game that we played. Watching Nick Thompson just stand there while a guy grabs a rebound or shoots a midrange jumper is unacceptable. And there were countless examples from other guys over the past two days.

There needs to be some pride in this program.

Case in point that effort can be taught/demanded: I was a staunch supporter of Kelvin Sampson and his program. Every single team he had played with effort and passion (his last year was probably the worst). He demanded it. I want Capel to do the same.
