Austin Grandstaff Commits to OU

Going to be lots of competition for playing time on the wings next year between Odomes, James, McGusty, Doolittle and Grandstaff.

Good to see McGusty and Odomes congratulating Grandstaff on Twitter.

Grandstaff and family didn't screw around at all.
That bodes well.
They wanted him to go to OU and committed.

Really!! It's not a given that Grandstaff will step into a starting role. Lots of good depth and competition.

I'm not convinced that Doolittle will be a wing anymore than Buford. They're both kind of tweeners size-wise.

He's going to make our defense better this year by our guards having to guard a really good shooter in practice.

Who's going to play the point? Woodard? Strong? McGusty? I don't think you can go wrong with Woodard, McGusty, and one of the others, but will be interesting to see who runs the team.

We are going to be salty by tourney time next year.

I love the sign and I'm excited!!

But I do have a question. I watched his videos and he is very good obviously. But I don't think he is overwhelming good to think he should start and play 20+ minutes a game as a freshman at a big time university like ohio state.

He may not even average 20+ minutes a game next year

why was he and his family complaining about minutes? He is a freshman and they need time to get use to the college game. Is this something we should worry about and worry that him and his family will complain about playing time at ou as well?

I think our team has good chemistry and I sure hope we aren't getting a guy like TMG that could ruin chemistry or be the bad egg.

But, I am excited because he is very good and I am hopefully he can change his attitude. It should be about the team not so much about how much playing time a FRESHMAN is getting.

Hope this kid is ready to work. PT and shots aren't gonna just be given to him.

Crazy. I hope the kid isn't a headcase after those minutes quotes from his dad. Were getting more talented every year.

His minutes will be fine because most likely he will start along with McGusty and Woodard.

Does Grandstaff's commitment mean there isn't a spot for RJ Nembhard? We have a lot of wings for next year. We will have 2-3 scholarships depending on what Bolden decides. One has to go to a PG (Trae Young). We will need another post player. Maybe two.

I don't think it's that black and white. James is already getting minutes. Bringing in strong. Odomes is probably at the same level as grandstaff too as far as progressing to the D1 level

I wanted this kid when he was thought to be close to an OU commitment last year, and nothing I have read or heard has changed my mind. As BigTime said, you can't have too many shooters!

I'm not the least bit worried about team chemistry. If Coach Kruger thought Grandstaff would not be a good fit at OU, he would have backed off and wish him well at Ohio State long before he made his final decision. Lon proved to all of us a long ago that he knows what he's doing in signing good players as well young men who will not be a problem on or off of the court. In Lon I trust, and you should too!

I know Austin is a combo guard who is known more as a scorer/shooter. But, he handles the ball and passes so well, is there any reason why he couldn't be our next Isaiah Cousins at the point, or swing to that position to back up Jordan?
