Austin Grandstaff

No inside knowledge, but piecing together what I have heard in passing, he will stay local (i.e. couple hours from Dallas). The lure to play for a big time program might be there and could win out, but he did try to go to prep school last year and hated it after a couple weeks and returned home.

Can't overlook the Mudiay commitment to SMU...it's a hot location right now in North Texas.

Jordan would be dropping dimes to this kid for 3 years. Booker, Buddy and Grandstaff would be lethal.

Wouldn't Jordan only be playing with him for 2 years? Isn't he in the 2015 class?

If you don't live in Dallas you don't understand that SMU is the leading story around here right now. Football is over, Rangers haven't started and the Mavs are down.

Everyone says that the new Moody is fantastic and they have been selling out. Larry Brown is selling the former "NBA coach" angle and he will get you ready for pro ball.

SMU could be a "basketball school" in two years i'm thinking. He's grabbed arguably the best player from Dallas the last two seasons.

SMU is going to be hard to turn down for kids I'm afraid.

Yes, he is. He would be a freshman when Hornbeak, Hield and Cousins are seniors.

I think Grandstaff could be a key piece to OU making a deep run in the NCAA tourney that year. He would also gain invaluable experience at the college level and have a chance to be the focal point of our offense the following season.

New arena, rising program, legend NBA coach, local (why he didn't last two weeks at prep school in WV), Emmanuel Mudiay, hottest girls in the region, guaranteed kush job after graduation...SMU is hot right now with the DFW players.

SMU might be working their way into the Big XII.

Why would the Big XII do that? They already dominate that TV market. SMU offers zero additional revenue in my opinion. I get why SMU would want to be in the Big XII but I don't see how it is a win for the Big XII. Colorado State would be much better because it would bring the Denver TV market. Some of the Florida schools make more sense because they bring new TV markets.

SMU is Dallas' team

lol @ Colorado State.

You get TV ratings by having a strong conference. You have a strong conference by adding strong programs that are geographically relevant and create compelling rivalries. I'm skiing in Telluride and a couple guys from West Virginia are on the trip. They know nothing about the other programs in the Big XII and don't care to.

The Big XII already has the best TV contracts in all of college sports. Pretty much every single football & basketball game is on national TV. If SMU becomes as good at hoops as they were in football during the 80s we will add them. I lived right by SMU in highland park and always thought they should have focused on hoops over football. It looks like they finally did it. There is no reason they can't become a Duke level program.

Denver is a pro-sports city. Outside of Boulder and Fort Collins, no one really cares.

I don't see the Big 12 adding SMU.

All that does is dilute the biggest talent base our conference draws from (in football).

this .. we already should not have added TCU ( should have added Louisville with WVU)

Wish it was the latter but I'm afraid it's the former...

I'm not so sure about that. Hale doesn't usually stick his neck out that far on a prediction unless he's reasonably sure of himself. I'm inclined to believe he knows something he is not sharing right now.

Then again, I have been wrong before, and so has JH.

After paying for OUinsider, I have come to believe James Hale is a complete moron. He is a terrible writer and doesn't even remotely make an effort to proof read. I have mentioned it a couple of times. His responses are unbelievable. He doesn't even proof read a response to a complaint about lack of proof reading. I should have printed and handed it to employees as an example of how not to write.
