Bad Loss Reactions

Well, guys, I'm convinced.

OU needs to focus its future efforts on recruiting tattooed, atheist, gang-bangers. And if Sherri can't find sufficient numbers in the high schools, she can comb the reform schools and prisons for the playas she needs.

Gotta admit, I've learned a lot from this thread.

Well, if you are taking this from my posts, you are just saying what you want to say AND NOT what I have said or implied. I HAVE said certain players shouldn't be eliminated because of some of these behaviors. IT is bigoted to do so if it is happening. It's completely BS to imply that someone believes X when you should be able to read and know that is NOT true. Did you enjoy making this snarky, condescending post which is not accurate?

Syb, IF YOU ARE IMPLYING THAT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE SAID, you know better. THAT was not my point AT ALL and you know it.
Easy. Not everything is about you.

This is really in response to the long-time "suggestions" that Sherri has a religious code, has a thing about tattoos, turns down players who aren't her type of girl, etc. There has been a constant thread, little by little, that drips, drips, drips into the conversation as though it had any merit. It began before you arrived. Usually, it comes from the same people who defend Kim. But, it suggest that Sherri is bigoted and narrow-minded, something that I addressed on some thread in the past four or five days.

I seriously do not think everything is about me. However, since I have been posting I have never seen anyone bring up the issues that Sherri possibly has a problem with atheists or lesbians. I don't read all threads but I believe I addressed both of those issues here, as well as the tats, and that we are public institution so we should look at helping some of the kids that might not be Ms. Goody Two Shoes. (For the record, I see that my post sounded as though I was mad, but I wasn't. I just meant to address you specifically if you were talking about my posts because you know I don't think we should recruit someone based on religion or non-religion, sexuality,
tats. Those things should not matter.) I am just about non-discrimination and giving everyone a chance.

I had the same thoughts. lol. We need to recruit a tattooed homosexual atheist, as long as she knows how to pump fake.

You are an atheist so doesn't it bother you that Sherri won't recruit an atheist (if that's true)?

I know she's had players who are homosexual, so we know that's not true.

Were they out? Did she know it when she recruited them? Did she ever know while they were at OU?

What difference does it make? Should a coach ask questions about that when recruiting? I don't think so. I suspect Sherri doesn't either, but we are all speculating so it is probably best dropped until someone has some actual facts about what is inside Sherri's brain.

The issue that was being discussed was whether Sherri discriminates in her recruiting, that is why it is important. It is an important topic to discuss as no player has been out to the community and fans. There is one player now that actually openly supports gay rights on social network. Of course, that says nothing about her sexuality.

As sweetest indicates, there is a lot of discussion, but no facts. Before accusations, there should be some sort of evidence.

So name one out atheist or lesbian player in Sherri's tenure. And why is OUWBB not promoting the videos made by some UCONN players and some coaches and a former player which speak against homophobia. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association is involved in this effort. I tweeted one of the videos to OUWBB and it did not show up on their timeline. They did not retweet or favor or let it be shown.

None of which suggests that Sherri will not recruit a lesbian, atheist, or player with a tattoo.

It's really none of your business or mine, but since she came out publicly, Rosilyn Ross. And at the time of her tragic death she had just accepted employment at OU.

She was not OUT at OU while playing there. One of her best friends told me that she did not know. Also, OU has never confirmed the allegation that they had employed her. If they had, did they know she was a lesbian? If they actually had hired her and because of her death found out about her being a lesbian, is that why they never mentioned it.

It is EVERYONE'S business if OUWBB will not recruit out lesbians. It's discrimination by a public university. The same is true if the atmosphere is such that a player feels they have to keep their sexuality private when being recruited and after coming to the university.

How many out football players, softball players, gymnasts, golf players, baseball players, etc are out? I know of one track and field student that has come out at OU and it's extremely naive to think there are no gay/lesbian athletes at OU, now or in the past.

This is really a ridiculous group of posts and a perfect example of dropping BS comments to spread falsehoods!

EXACTLY THE POINT. Why aren't they out? Why is there not a culture of acceptance? AND I thought this was an OUWBB board which is why I was discussing OUWBB.

Oh, there is a rower that came out her sophomore year. She was relly happy to do so. They should all be able to come out without worry or repurcussions of any kind. I have seen OUWBB players come out to more or lesser degrees once they have left the university. Some I would guess did not become lesbian or bi until leaving college, some were just ot out here.

There are a million reasons why a player might not "come out" at any point in life. We should not be pressuring them to do something they are not comfortable with. It is their decision - not yours or mine.

It does not matter if they are Hispanic, black, white, gay, straight, etc. let them be what they want. Why try and make such a big deal out of it?

If you have some factual basis for all this post it with names, dates, etc. It sounds like speculation - and hurtful speculation at that.

I have NEVER said that they should be pressured to come out. I am speculating in the same way that you are speculating. I have stated some facts. I have also stated some beliefs. Some of my beliefs are based on what I see, such as WHY is OUWBB not involved in the Bra}che the silence movement and promoting the videos? It is not that Sherri is not aware, after all, the Women's College Baskeball Association is partner in this movement. Sherri was at one time the president of this organization, wasn't she? You need to look at the videos and then tell me that there is a reason to NOT believe that out lesbians are accepted in OUWBB. Ny Stevenson came out after wbb season over at end of her senior year. Abi came out two or three years out of college. Not saying what Abi's sexuality is now or if she is more private, but she was very open on her social media pages at one time. I followed her because I liked to follow wbb players to find out about injuries, whose playing where, those types of things. I don't follow any of them now. I may go to their pages to see if they have tweeted something about their career, but very seldom. I now use twitter to learn about issues of the day, books, science, technology, etc.

It's OKLAHOMA! There was a gay high school student that committed suicide after attending a Norman city council meeting or diversity meeting just a few years ago after listing to all the vitriol spewed by some residents. Just because there have been advances made in the past few years doesn't automatically erase people's fears.

But again, someone drops a hint here like it's a fact and it's totally not and then spreads like wildfire for years. Sherri requires religiosity on the team! Did anyone listen to Patty Gasso after winning the NC??? Giving God the glory. She said in another interview, "We knew that God's hand was in [the loss] and it wasn't our time to win [the championship]." Did you know she has a team chaplain? If Sherri had said and done the same thing and had a team chaplain on the bench, there would be a few screaming bloody murder on here, moreso than already is now!

SMH!

Your post was not responsive to mine so there is nothing for me to respond to. Not sure why you quoted me.

The second paragraph doesn't apply to your response but the first does. The second paragraph is just a statement of bewilderment on why OUWBB's sexuality is even being discussed on this board! Truly amazing!

I'm not speculating. I do not care if they are gay or not. I have no idea if they are gay or not. Who cares? It is their decision. I am happy to let them be exactly what they want to be. You seem to have somehow gotten caught up in wanting some of them to fit the mold you want.

Let them be what they want to be when they want to be, as they want to be.

Let's each just take care of ourselves and not pressure others to be like we want them to be.

It is a waste of time to be demanding that others talk and act like one wants instead of accepting them as they want to be.

I recall a disagreement about Vivi's name and I don't recall who but a few demanded that her name be pronounced like they wanted it pronounced.

I asked a very good friend who is from Haiti, and whose mom lives there, and whose grandmother lives there. She said the name would be pronounced Louie in every part of Haiti. And in both French there and in the two native languages. Yet we had folks demanding their way and even claiming parts of the country pronounced it differently. Same story as now. Do it my way no matter the truth.

I like Sherri and the way she runs the program. I wish we could win a few more games and am hopeful that will happen over the next few games. Time will tell.

Speculation is worthless when it is about what someone else thinks. It is a waste of time. It will never change what we do not know. It just leads to endless frustration.
