Bad Loss Reactions

It was a Texas Tech player. But, Griner also did something else that was a deliberate act that was probably more indicative of an attitude problem than breaking someone's jaw in the heat of the moment.

As a freshman in Norman, Griner and Jo McFarland were jogging side by side up court after a made basket, Suddenly, Griner just hit Jo with an elbow, out of the blue. It caught Jo by surprise, and she was floored. It was non-provoked, no action of any kind.

Kim Mulkey said she didn't see it. I don't remember whether they called a foul or not. Nobody seemed to have seen it: not Mulkey, not the officials.

There was never any punishment. It was a deliberate and unprovoked attack.

I was at that game and it was shocking - and as dirty as anything you will see in a game. No foul was called and I believe the officials did claim they did not see it. I suppose that is possible, but a bit hard to imagine. It was right at center court while the ball was being brought up.

But once again, the question is why in the world did the Big-12 office not make a statement about it later that week? I do not recall any thing ever being done. They certainly knew it happened once they saw the film.

It is my opinion that it is time for OU to make it abundantly clear to the Big-12 office that if anything like these events happen again - and no action is taken - they will pursue whatever legal action is available - and also encourage the player's family to sue the Big-12. And, who knows - perhaps they have. Everyone knows these kinds of events can result in long term brain injury. It does not belong in the women's game - or any form of athletics.

There is nothing that Kim Mulkey can do to get back any respect after she didn't see Griner hit Jo, Griner hit the Tech forward (Peterson?), and Williams pull someone's hair. I feel the same way about the OSU coaches who never saw Riley throw a punch. It is too convenient not to see such obvious things, especially after reviewing the films.

If their not going to call it than we need to get physical back until they do call it. I have all the respect in the world for Sherry but she needs to wake up and realize that some girls don't want religion apart of the equation and tattoos is a feeling of expression for a lot of these players and please quit sitting on the bench with her hands over her face and get up and get some fire. Everyone comes pains about Mulkey but she is up coaching and into the game.

So Norm makes one highly speculative and totally erroneous supposition that our Coach won't recruit players like Spangler, and now 5 posters are jumping on the bandwagon and dissing Sherri for turning down players for tattoos. That's how the stifling cloud of negativity spreads on this board. It's total bulls**t. Totally ridiculous assumptions about our coach are rampant in this thread and on this board.

At this point I choose to play the Hall of Fame card again. The people on that committee know more than any of the posters on this board. As far as that goes, there is nothing about Women's basketball that anyone on this board knows, that every single member of our coaching staff does not know better and in more detail.
:facepalm

Can you or Tycat name just one player?

Very good.

No one can say for certain on an issue such as this what the truth is or isn't. We all have or own suppositions and beliefs.

Oh, I probably can. But I think I'll let them hang themselves out to dry for a while anyway.

I agree. And with all I have said, I am not all down on Sherri. I don't think she is perfect but, again, I do think she is important to the university. I wish she would actively show up on diversity issues. And that I believed differently regarding her on some things we have talked about, but like Oliver said none of us can say for certain.

It's a little like the Ross situation. If someone has something to say or reveal, it will be after the fact, after Sherri retires.

I like Sherri too. She has had some really good teams. That doesn't happen by accident. My only suggestion is, she needs to recruit more athletic skilled players in order to return to future final fours.

Yeah, she has too many unathletic players. They may play smart basketball or have a good basketball IQ and be fundamentally sound but we clearly don't have enough athletes and haven't in a long time. Sherri's most athletic team was the Stacey Dales and LaNeisha Caufield team and they hung with UConn in the final game.

Her most unathletic team was any of the teams with with the Paris twins who were way too slow. Sure, they made it to the final 4, finally in their Sr. year but any time they ran up against athletic teams they got beat.

Look at Baylor and aTm's national championship teams...all were very athletic.

Hope you did not think I was referring to you or anyone with my post that you quoted. I was just talking about my feelings.

Kind of related: I think some people on here would enjoy it more if they
could just bury the hatchet. Seems some of you are always going to be at odds but maybe it could be worked out so you aren't insulting each other. Know it is none of my business and it doesn't bother me, just thinking getting upset and angry doesn't contribute to anything good in your life. I know when I am angry it is usually more at myself for not just letting things go. YEAH, it is none of my business and I am no counselor, I just want people to be as happy as possible and have as many happy, good moments as possible because in between is just a lot of worry and stress for many people. Okay, maybe I am the only one with worry and stress who just found that grabbing
the happy times, moments is what is important for me.

OKAY, no more of these posts. REALLY, I do not think I know more than anyone. I am serious about wanting all of you to be happy, even ALL of you who really dislike me and/or my posts and those of you that I neither like nor dislike.

No problem at all! I enjoy your posts.

Well, guys, I'm convinced.

OU needs to focus its future efforts on recruiting tattooed, atheist, gang-bangers. And if Sherri can't find sufficient numbers in the high schools, she can comb the reform schools and prisons for the playas she needs.

Gotta admit, I've learned a lot from this thread.

I had the same thoughts. lol. We need to recruit a tattooed homosexual atheist, as long as she knows how to pump fake.

Syb, IF YOU ARE IMPLYING THAT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE SAID, you know better. THAT was not my point AT ALL and you know it.
