BU gave us the recipe to beat ISU in Ames. Spread the court on offense, scorch the nets from three and play solid defense, especially in the last five minutes. So, we know it can be done. Can OU repeat that performance? We'll find out next week.
That was a great win for Baylor. If they continue to play like they did tonight, they could make some noise in the post season.
Sooners have not scorched the nets from three in the last couple of weeks, so although I agree with your assesment, this would be an assesment to beat any team in America on any night! Not sure we can rely on making threes and playing great defense in the last five as a game plan. Have to think more about a real game plan, but in the last couple of weeks here is what I think OU has needed to do and, this would include Saturday against TCU.
1) Start fast - which I believe translates to man-to-man pressing to get guys into the game early. With improved play by Booker and Walker over the last 3 or 4 games, depth and fatigue should be less of a concern.
2) Run the court - OU's fast break points, often spurred by Spangler, are a key - Sooners have even scored quite a few "fast break" points even on made baskets
3) Run plays for Buddy early. Not just three attempts, but getting Buddy slashing to the basket. He needs a little shot of confidence. Seems to me when he makes a few drives or drops a few FTs then his three ball is better.
4) I am still a fan of playing inside out, which means Thomas needs to touch the ball in the post early and often.
Right now, I think OU needs to worry more about their own performance than the opponent. Yes, I want the Sooners to win the Big 12, but even winning the conference won't mean much unless they win in March.
