not saying it’s your opinion but weird that folks treat basketball on here 2nd rate if comparing to football

Would football heads accept a d2 all
Star coach over a proven d1 winner?

Then folks get mad at a low budget hire….

There is no magic formula for hiring a coach. KU and KSU are probably pretty happy with their small-school hires even though neither of them came with the hype train that Venables did. Bob Stoops was a first-time head coach. Riley was a first-time head coach. Anyone who thinks it is easy for an AD to identify a sure thing is kidding themselves. Venables and Moser both seemed like good hires, or at least potentially good hires. It clearly hasn’t worked out for either.

I'm not totally convinced we'd be able to hire a proven D1 winner. I was surprised we got Moser tbh

If BV gets five years with the seasons we have had PM will be here long enough to figure out how to get to the NCAAs consistently. However long that will be.

You just ruined the day of a portion of this board. Congrats for the visual. LOL

And you would turn on him as quickly as you did PM
Crazy thing about me: my evaluation of coaches is, in fact, largely based on whether they win. Nuts, I know, that I place so much emphasis on the scoreboard in competitive sports. I also have this weird tendency in college basketball to value appearances in something called the NCAA tournament. Again, I know it’s strange that I prioritize those things over culture walls or whether someone is “a good guy.”

But to be fair, I’m sure Drake spent several millions in NIL to bring in those D-2 guys.

Crazy thing about you is that you evaluate on "winning" but if a guy wins 20 games you dismiss the entire season and move the goal post and say the season was a disaster because he didn't make the tournament. Nuts, I know, that some people would say winning 63% of your games is success and that I would use winning % to gauge part of a coach's overall body of work in competitive sports. I have this weird tendency to objectively look at more than one criteria to think he has done a decent, not great job. Also, that I would put some value on those culture walls instead of propping up a multi-time cheater as my standard.

But, to be fair, the team you "root" for is undefeated and you want to pine over a coach who is doing a good job but is all of 6 games into his inaugural D1 year, who took over a team that won 28 games last year. Not one that had just gone 16-11.

But you do you dude.

The difference is,obviously, that you look for things to be unhappy about and try to suck the life out of the board with it. Whereas MOST of us TRY to cheer on our team and hope for the best but you can't let your hate for PM get out of your way and let you enjoy anything about this team. You'd rather be unhappy and dissect every win or minor success to look for something bad to focus on....we win by 25 but "the schedule sucks"...we win by 30 but "the players are average"...we start undefeated through the first few weeks but "someone else is successful with ot without NIL"

Dude...you are one of those guys who are going to pick a hill to die on and not admit when you are wrong about it no matter what. NIL, if FACT, makes a difference in college basketball. It isn't the ONLY factor but the higher your level (i.e. the Big 12 or SEC instead of the Missouri Valley) the more important it is. A guy winning 25 game in the MVC isn't automatically doing a better job than someone winning 20 in the SEC or Big 12 because you can win at a higher clip with lesser guys at that level. I've posted 3-4 articles about NIL and college hoops on different threads and you have ignored every one so you can keep up this argument how NIL isn't that important....then you complain if we aren't getting the higher level players. We needed to spend more on NIL and, supposedly, that has started to slowly happen. We are never going to spend Duke, Kentucky, Arky and Kansas money on basketball NIL. Hence, we aren't going to have rosters like that. I think PM needs to be evaluated, in part on the NCAA tournament but he also needs to be lauded for the positives too but you struggle mightily when it comes to giving credit. Oh well.

Sorry for the long post.

Sure, let’s look at winning percentage without factoring in who those come against. Brilliant.

I definitely agree with you on one point: a coach having success in the Valley definitely isn’t a sure thing to succeed in a power conference. One example comes to mind quickly. But at least he’s a fun guy to grab a beer with. Probably time for another extension!

Don’t apologize. It may have been long, but there isn’t 1 incorrect word in it. I’ve frequented message boards for almost 30 years & I have NEVER seen a more miserable poster in my time on said boards. Swap out the W for a B & you’ve got his schtick, 100%.

Put him on ignore. I did months ago & regret it in no way whatsoever. You won’t either.

I wish we had metrics on how many people are ignoring you. Would be a good self-scout of how your posts are being received.

Sometimes truth isn’t fun to hear. Feel free to ignore. It worked so well last season when you all were stunned we missed the tournament since you chose to live in fantasy land like Moser and the blindly optimistic crew who ignored how bad our metrics were.

Unfortunately that’s the truth.
