Big 12 and Fox sign deal

Does anyone know if Fox has ever shown interest in having a marque saturday game(s) like ABC and CBS has for years? Seems like there would be a market for it and fans could watch the game on free tv or basic cable/sat package without having to have a upper tier or sports pack...

I mean they show saturday baseball (which I can't imagine does very well numbers wise compared to what a good college football matchup would do)....

Seems like they could air big one big game a weekend (from the conferences they already have agreements with) and show everything else on their FSN platform...

Great, now all we need to do is change the conference name to the Southwest 10.

This is great business. The conference kept all the marquee programs.

The conference title game has been replaced by the OU OSU game so as long as OU is in the hunt for the national title it's the same difference as us beating up on some Big XII north patsy. The ratings will be just as high the same as when USC always plays UCLA the day of the conference title games. and Oregon OSU played this year.

Southwest 10 = Winning.

On 810 WHB in KC they were saying that the deal was rumored to be for $90 million/yr which is much more than the $60 or so million that was rumored but also with more football games for Fox (40 vs. 28?). This is just a second tier package and is an increase of over $7 million/yr per school compared to the old package. If we can negotiate a better primary deal with ABC/ESPN when that deal is up, we'll be doing just fine in the Big 12 -2, especially if the upcoming new Sooner network does well. The entire conference should be doing well as far as revenue.

BTW, NO Southwest 10. We need to leave the number out of the name since there will invariably be more conference realignment in the future and if we add or lose teams we'll need a new name again.

Part of the reason they got this deal done is to reward the teams that stayed in the conference. They do not want to share the money they just made by adding more teams.

Beebe said the TV agreement means it is unlikely the Big 12 will expand beyond its 10 members.

One underrated factor I like about this is the other games shown on FX... I didn't know this but the number of people that have FX is not that much lower from the number that have both ESPN/ESPN2 combined (98 million to 99 million, respectively). I would've thought the margin was much wider.

We should just rename the conference without including the number of teams...personally I'd go with something like the "Awesome Conference" and then laugh my butt off when sportscasters are forced to say...Awesome Conference over and over again.
