Capel needs to rip the refs new ones in the press conference

Seems to me our guys have played very hard, especially the last couple of weeks. Playing "smart" comes with experience and age. Did you honestly think at the beginning of the year that our starting lineup consisting of 3 freshman were going to play like seniors in the second best bball conference?

They've played 30 games now. Ever heard of the saying "there aren't any freshmen come March"? At some point, these guys have to grow up and start playing better. They probably have TWO more games this season, then limited practices before next year starts back up. How are they going to improve? I'm sorry, but the simple passing of time (the summer) isn't going to make them better. Other teams are improving. In alot of ways, we aren't.

By this point in the season, the freshman excuse doesn't fly so much.

And we're not playing hard on defense or on the boards -- at least, we weren't in the second half tonight.

not always true

Ah, so I guess as fans, we should only support the team when they're winning, not simply because they wear an Oklahoma jersey. Gotcha.

I'm not saying he was, because I didn't hear the entire statement, but now's not the time to be calling out the fans, if that's what Coach Capel was doing. This has not been a scrappy, hardnosed, savvy team that's suffered some bad breaks -- it's been, with a few exceptions, a spoiled, me-first, rule-breaking, lousy-defense, poor-attitude bunch.

Get them to play hard, first, and then smart, and many, if not most, of the fans will be right there with you, no matter the win-loss record. But the fans this season get a free pass, as far I'm concerned. The product on the floor has been so poor, the fans are the last thing Coach should be thinking about.

The crowd for the Baylor game was better than I expected it to be. But the fans never get a free pass in my book. The ones who climb on the bandwagon when times are good are the first ones to jump ship when there's a bump in the road. I have no use for them.

I'll say it now and beat the rush - if you go to the Texas A&M game on Saturday and can't spare the extra 10 minutes to pay your respects to Tony Crocker & Ryan Wright, you're no better than the ones who jump off the bandwagon when times get tough.

I agree.

I think the refs were part of the reason but not the entire reason we lost. The other part is TOs and mostly fatigue.

We had a good lead until the refs decided that they didn't want texas to lose on Senior night.

Come now, TU. There isn't a good coach in the country who doesn't say the players improve their game over the summer, not at practice during the season.

If you can't see the ways in which these guys are playing better now than they were a few weeks ago, it's got to be because you don't want to see it.

this. and not just b/c of their skill increases, but bc of their maturity. we all know we need a lot of maturing this off season (posters included)

Teams are made in the season...players are made in the off-season.

You don't think the refs ever play into this? a hungry crowd, hightower, and senior night. just saying.

I don't think refs make the decision, as a group, mid-game to let one team win, no.

But then again, you probably believe in UFO's, that the CIA killed JFK, and other conspiracy theories.

i think you give too much respect for officials. they are human, you can't count out their subconsciousness to please the crowd

Huh? I've never seen a player leave with all kinds of deficiencies, and come back polished. Normally, they make improvements during the season, work on a few little things during the offseason, and show some more small improvement. All that small improvement is not makes it noticable.

What I see is a little more effort, and better team play, mostly, IMO, due to Willie being gone. That is it in the improvement category. We still can't run anything resembling an offense. We still take a ton of bad shots, and turn the ball over at stupid times. We still can't get stops when we need them. We still don't rebound well. Enlighten me as to the other improvements you see, b/c I'd love to have something to feel better about.

It is also their job, and most folks have some sense or morality.

Throwing games is a good way to get fired, and isn't very moral.

so you will admit that an individual can

i see this and individuals getting better (TMG, TINY, FITZ) if you can't see that you might as well stop watching
