Here are some notes, I typed up while listening.....

Long year, long off season, in north Carolina right now, relaxing….favorite part of Carolina - all of it, wherever family is, at the beach, every summer rent a house at the beach, every coach needs a break especially after last year

From June 14-July 1 was busy with USA hoops then left to go on the road to recruit

Cameron Clark has qualified, did an outstanding job to get things accomplished, didn’t take school serious in 9th and 10th grade….happens often with kids, has a chance to be OU’s best player, Jeff doesn’t really know who OU's best player will be

Cade had a good year but must be consistent

Fitz will be improved weighs 237 now/more quicker/confident

Pledger much improved, lost some weight, added strength

On Newell: waiting to see if he qualifies….came up 1 credit short b/c of a class (English) in 10th grade, an advisor told him it would, filed waiver with ncaa and waiting to hear back from ncaa

On the schedule: made a year in advance, Arkansas made before he was here, Arizona game part of pac 10/big 12 challenge, maui has a great field, all college will be tough with Cincinnati, had no control really over schedule, going to be away from LNC for a long stretch, with schedule thought OU would have some guys back, thought one guy would turn pro but not all three, with young guys need a schedule that will help with confidence, we will play hard and compete every night

On summer workouts: guys worked hard, guys talked a lot about Carl Blair and guys really enjoyed playing with him, had a group this summer that worked really hard in the gym compared to last years’ guys, guys actually wanted to work this summer

OU will sign more than 1 next year, said he was sure OU will

Interesting to watch Tiny next year with all the “bigs” on the bucks team, Willie felt he could have done more, Willie needs to get completely healthy

aTm game last year was turning point for season, OU controlled game, up 11 in second half but down stretch couldn’t close the win, if OU wins that game OU is 3-1 and would have given team more confidence

Blake has improved shooting, sky is limit for him because of his desire and athletic ability

Great recap 83, really appreciate it!

Good to hear of Fitz and Bird since they will have to step up big for this team to have success.

Great recap, thanks for sharing. Capel is right....this years schedule is brutal especially for an inexperienced team.

I absolutely agree about the A&M game. Things went to hell after that

Great recap! I was a little surprised Capel said we would have more than one scholly available for next season. It seems like everyone really wants to be a Sooner so I can't imagine who would want to transfer. Any thoughts or insight?

The only thing I can think of is if he thinks someone is good enough to leave early. The only real candidate I see is Cameron Clark but that's a stretch at this point IMO. Or he is just used to attrition at this point and expects someone to leave for some reason or another. I would prefer the first option.

Hardrick's time here is limited...he just isn't that good.
We brought in a huge class and its not like we brought in more than 2 top 100 players(Clark/Osby) and yet on a 13 man roster, he is still at the bottom of depth chart and when Capel discusses the returning players, he never mentions Hardrick. And not only that but there are a couple of walk-ons that are higher on the depth chart then him.

Hardrick just hasn't progressed from how good he was in the 9th grade. He may have even declined from his 2 ACL tears.

The funny thing about ratings is Hardrick is probably the next highest rated guy outside of Clark and Osby so that shows you it's not an exact science.

Crap. The best player in the class is not going to qualify. Without Newell things will be pretty bleak.

I agree that it is worrisome, but I am not sure it as clearly means he won't qualify. The thing that most worried me was that perhaps the second scholarship Capel thinks will be available is Newell's. I certainly hope that isn't the case and am not ready to say that Newell isn't going to qualify. Side note, I am not sure why you are convinced he will be the best player in the class with guys like Taylor and Clark. For that matter, I wouldn't even put money on him starting. Still, it would be hard to ignore that Newell not qualifying would be a pretty bad loss for the team.

If Newell doesn't qualify that is going to be a disaster. Man it just gets worse and worse.

I disagree because we will still have TJ Taylor and Carl Blair. Last year we really didn't have a true point guard. I think we will have at worse 2 guys that can play the point with or without Newell.

A week or so ago we were worried that both he and Cam would not make it. That would be a disaster! Since it appears that Cam is going to make it per the interview above that would take the sting out of Newell not making it. It would certainly hurt but disaster might be a bit strong. Hopefully Newell will get what he needs to and make it in. Good luck to him. Thanks for posting the article.

It's way too early to count Newell out. Don't be shocked if he qualifies. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

They have concurrent enrollment for High schoolers taking college classes during their senior year. Maybe Newell can take the opposite!

ha ha That's funny brimm. Reverse AP courses. After Placement.

I just really want Newell to sneak his way in. He is a special talent that we wouldn't get if not for his academic issues.

So, what has Newell been doing this summer? Did he retake the class in summer school or is he just hoping he gets a waiver?

Did you guy's forget that Cam,played guard in highschool also so we have a tripple threat with taylor, blair and clark.

Nope, my point was that Cam had in fact be cleared so we were in better shape than with both hanging in limbo. Unfortunatly we just don't know how much of a threat these guys will be. I am hoping for the best, that lots of playing time will lead to quick learning. There will be growing pains though and we should be prepared for that.

I think some of the fans on this board are under estimating how good Blair, Clark, and Taylor might be. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!
