Cezar Guerrero scouting report

:ez-roll:

I'll say one thing for you, booger. You certainly hold yourself in high esteem.

:woot

My parents instilled in me a lot of confidence.

New video interview with him, mentions OU.

I have been critical of Capel but he needs to recruit the best offensive players and teach them defense.

LMAO did you really just cut and paste his resume on here? I'm sorry, but that means nothing to me. Are we to assume that all of the coaches that are currently recruiting Guerrero are fools because the living legend Jerry Meyer has decreed he is weak defensively?

You called him some random Joe Blow...just wanted to prove that he's not, actually has some credibility and a respected opinion within the basketball community. Surprised you haven't heard of him. If you thoroughly read Meyer's account he is actually says some nice things about Guerrero's game.

I'm sure a lot of the coaches recruiting him are thinking the same thing, along the lines of a need for a scoring lead guard. Coaches always feel like they can make or teach a player to play defense at a higher level, they are willing to take a chance. Jeff is in the same situation, given the lack of comparable talent out there, that is probably why he is blowing up. As I said already, wouldn't be opposed to signing him given the current prospects. Would Capel be able to teach him defense? I don't know, jury is definitely out given our stellar (sarcasm) defensive units the past couple years.

One thing I learned in recruiting growing up, emphasize on getting PGs and posts first, wings are a dime a dozen....especially in the late signing period. Like Meyer said, lots of schools wrote him off, but many are looking for PGs now (which is usually the case), so Cezar's phone is probably blowing up.

Really weird interview, interviewer does more talking than Cezar, he only mentions OU in the school listing. First school he says though.

Highlights from the game yesterday (not the best but it looks to be 4 straight minutes of unedited stuff so break down his D and what not).

I was one of the few who agreed we didn't need another player who can't play defense.

I place more stock in Joe Blow than my own analysis because I haven't yet seen him play. That's fine if other schools are recruiting him, they probably have a coach who will make him play defense whereas Capel will let him play without coming to practice or following the conditioning program. Capel doesn't have enough discipline with players to be recruiting a kid who may or may not decide to play 100% all the time.

If we had a disciplinarian coach, I wouldn't care who he recruited.

You do know that Jozsef Szendrei is the strength and conditioning coach. They are pushed pretty hard. How do you know that not showing up to practice is ok with Capel? Are you really there watching every practice knowing what is going on?

It's a pretty well known fact that WW and Crocker revolted against offseason conditioning last year.

I think it's funny that people take one report from some anonymous internet clown that says he plays poor defense and use that as an indictment of not only Guerrero but Capel for recruiting him in the first place.

If I'm one of the "people" you're talking about, read my post again and pay close attention to the positive things I had to say. I had one little blip about Guerrero's defense: "Meyer's report on his defense worries me." My follow up to that is absolutely true: "We don't need another player who can't guard his man."

I like everything else I saw of Guerrero. His speed, quickness and handles will more than make up for his size limitations...at least on offense. The jury is still out on defense, because it's hard to judge that part of his game on a highlight video focused almost entirely on his offensive skills. That's why I chose to go with what Jerry Meyer had to say. And, why not? Meyer has covered basketball recruiting for years. I don't always agree with him. But he is good at his craft.

Doesn't it ever get old arguing in a circle?

Those two are like listening to my 5 year old niece argue with my 4 year old niece

I know who this kid reminds me of. Richie Vallens from LaBamba.

Seriously though, he would be a missing piece that would help. Let me do my best Abd lineup rundown.

Cezar Guerrero pg Cali player of the year averaging 46 points a game:

Cameron Clark SG Big12 Rookie of the Year. Josh Selby doesn't count because he is on KU payroll.

Romero Osby SF Transfer from Miss. State Community College where he averaged 42 points....uh I mean 4.2 points.

Andrew Fitzgerald eh

Robert Goff JucoJunction Player of the Year who lead Hutchinson Junior College to a National Championship.

i like that lineup...with pledger, Washington, Newell, Blair and Neal coming off the bench. And if he adds someone else as he says he is planning on doing...I like our chances. Even if he starts pledger at the 2 and clark at the 3...That lineup will be used a lot next year.

Looking at who's returning and coming in to the rest of the big 12 teams...I feel we should be in the top 4. KU and Mizzou are going to be on top but depending on what happens with texas(early departures), and OSU(Karron Johnson)...I like our team(even w/o guerrero).

It wasn't directed toward you. There are some on this board that take an inch and run a mile. You're not one of them.

I just get tired of all of the b!tching. Guerrero is one of the top 10, maybe top 5, rated kids left in the 2011 class, and we are right in the thick of things. In fact, William thinks that we could very well be in the lead at this time. Rather than be excited at the chance of landing such a prospect, some of us would rather sit around and say this is just another guy that plays bad defense and will always play bad defense because Capel sucks as a coach.

With 13 ships to give, Guerrero is an obvious no-brainer to me. You can teach someone to play defense. It's much more difficult to teach someone the skills needed to be a great offensive player, which he already is.

In reality, Pledger is probably starting and Goff is coming off the bench, but I agree, this is an upgrade with 3 solid junior in Osby, Pledger, and Fitz, a potential star in Clark, and a guy that can facilitate to them like Guerrero.

He pushes the ball way better than anyone we've had in a long time at OU. AJ was a great lead passer and he seems to be on par with AJ in that regard. I don't know if he'll be able to get into the lane and do anything effective. We'll just have to see on that one. He reminds me of a high school version of Steve Nash.
