Chris Crutchfield to OU as ASST. Coach

I'm not against the hire first of all. Secondly, what I meant by "splash" was someone from a major program who has recruited and signed some high major players.

Well we've already got two of those as assistants. This guy was brought in specifically to recruit Oklahoma and Texas, which is exactly what Kruger said he wanted.

I like it, seems to fill the role of what Lon had wanted perfectly.

On ORUs end, I wonder if Sean will now be back on the bench?

This hire tells me something else, assuming my assumptions are right. I'll assume that CC has targeted some below the radar kids in Texas, b/c ORU doesn't really have a shot at the big names. We've missed on a lot of our role-player type recruits in recent years. CC might get us in on some good, but overlooked kids, since those are the type of player he has been going after for ORU.

This looks like a good hire, ORU has brought in some good players the past few years.

Nice hire.

I think Evans did not do himself any favors by letting on that he coveted the OU BB coaching job more than his life. Integrating him onto a staff with Kruger's guys from UNLV always seemed like it would be problematic.

And don't forget that Lew Hill has some pretty decent Texas-ties as well.

Hopefully we'll be able to cash in on some of that talent, and find a few hidden gems from the OK/KS/TX area.

According to UNLV people that's NOT what we have. Fans and media were apparently calling for Lon to shake up his staff in order to get better recruiters.
As for the second part of your post, coach said he wanted a guy that could recruit the area as well as nationally. To me he made it seem that his main prerequisite was strong recruiting. Lon nor his staff are known for recruiting so I thought he would bring in a guy with a more solid track record for recruiting high majors. Like I said, we'll see what happens.

I trust that Kruger and company know what they are doing when it comes to hiring the right people for the job. I can't wait for basketball season! :woot

Fans and media in Vegas can s**t in one hand and wish in the other and see which one gets full first. Just because they think Kruger's staff wasn't recruiting well doesn't make it so. They're still working under the delusional notion of UNLV recruiting that existed back in the Tarkanian days.

Yes, LK should certainly find out what those basketball savy UNLV fans think before he hires that last assistant coach.

Maybe Terry needs to look at the variety of jobs on this guys resume and follow his lead in order to better prepare himself for a D1 job.

CC will not just be recruiting hidden gems. The key is that he has been watching Tx/OK kids for years, knows who they are, and has valuable relationships with their HS and AAU coaches. Now when he calls Gary Vick fro Athlete's First he can talk about his best player and not his third best.

Hopefully, he knows which ones are complete knuckleheads, too.

Those guys are a dime a dozen.

I thought he was going to bring in someone with ties to OU. Guess I misunderstood.

UNLV's recruiting was fine.

Kruger never said he was going to bring someone in with OU ties. He said he was looking for a person with ties to Oklahoma and Texas.

Early in the process, I wanted Evans but I guess Kruger thinks that Crutchfield has better ties to the places he wants to recruit.

I'm sure he considered all the options at his disposal.

Evans is great from an OU fan perspective, but I am not sure he has the ties to Texas recruiting that we need. Crutchfield has extensive ties to Texas, especially the Dallas area. Kruger wanted someone with ties to both Ok and Tx, Crutchfield has that.
