I have been on and off the fire Capel bandwagon all year. One side of me thinks he needs to be fired for the current state of our program. He is responsible for bringing in the likes of Gallon and TMG, but he also cleaned the program up by getting rid of them. Those two had major character issues and I honestly don't think he knew about them until they arrived on campus. They were one the biggest reasons we sucked so bad last year. We all knew going into this year the team wasn't going to be very good. I actually didn't think we would win but one or two conference games. The team is made up of guys that are at OU basically to fill up a roster (outside of Davis, Pledger, Clark and Fitzgerald.) Under normal circumstances those types of players would not even sniff the likes of OU, but coach had to do what he had to do to fill out the roster. The job that Capel and his staff did this year is not the best they have churned out, but I think they did a good job with what they had to work with. I mean 14 wins, who would have thought? Last years major disappointment won 13 games and had way more talent on the team. I'm just trying to be realistic. I know in this day in age everybody wants to win now, but sometimes you have to be realistic. Capel deserves another year and I think next year this team will be better than this years.

I keep hearing the word deserve in this discussion and I don't understand it. Bob Stoops deserves another year because he has earned it with past performance. Jeff Capel deserves nothing other than a pink slip. If the Capel supporters want to say that Capel should stay for another year because they believe he can right the ship, that's fine. To say that he deserves another year is just ludicrous. The man hasn't earned anything.

I certainly don't want you leading me into battle. Everyone died but we should give the leader another chance because he didn't realize his troops sucked before they arrived.

Look 14 of his 25 players are now off the roster, transfered, out of BB, slugging it out in the D league..etc.
3 worst seasons since 1976
Fan base has left the building
Potential NCAA infactions under this regime
Capel has dismantled this program its over
Handed a national championship team, Scottie Reyolds, Damien James, Blake Griffin was coming either way. I give him credit for Willie Warren however a 4 year Rontie Clarke might have been a better option. WW3 did nothing his second year we basically had him one year.

What are you talking about? Fire him today.

Jeff has indeed earned something. He has earned the admiration of scam artists everywhere. He can stand proudly and say: "Look at me guys, doing a terrible job, destroying a once proud program, and getting paid millions to do it!"

Jeff Capel ... Landing on his feet. Laughing all the way to the bank. Screwing the OU fan and season ticket holder.

your pathetic if you really think that is how jeff thinks. I would guarantee he is more distraught about the situation than any of us.

You are exactly right buttermaker.

I do think he deserves another year. He may not have earned it the past two seasons, but he does deserve one more. You guys can ***** and moan about losing season ticket holders, etc., but the fact is OU basketball fans only show up for big games anyway. This is true in any other season. Sampson had great teams where the games were played in front of a less than half full arena. This year people were just not excited about the team because we all knew they would not be very good, thus the attendance was down. I think they were better than most thought they were going to be. Bringing up the fact that he was handed a championship roster is a ridiculous statement. Reynolds and James were Sampson players, not Capel. They were given the chance to leave and did so. You can't blame that on Capel at all. I do agree that he should be accountable for players he brings in, but no one saw last year turning out the way it did.

I really don't think he is. He never seems to acknowledge that he is responsible for OU basketball's descent into the abyss, he doesn't seem sorry for the past two seasons judging by his arrogant comments to the media, and he's yet to apologize to the fans. I don't think he gives two ****s. **** Capel!

this doesn't even deserve a response. wow

I have really really wanted to support Coach Capel. However, last night fully illustrated my biggest problem with him. We haven't been competitive against top ranked teams since he has been here. We haven't even been close to be honest. Texas has had their way with us. We have played them 12 times with a record of 2-10. Our average margin of defeat is 15 pts. Even with Blake Griffin we were 1-4 against Texas and our average margin of defeat was 15.

Kansas: not good either. We have yet to beat them since Capel arrived. We are 0-6. Avg. margin of defeat is 14 pts. With Blake Griffin were 0-2. Avg. margin of defeat was close to 20.

We got blown out by 13th ranked Louisville (78-48) in the NCAA tourney with Griffin.

Our record against ranked teams is 9-33.

I did the calculations pretty fast, so there could be some errors. Took all of the stats from soonerstats.com

Another huge problem is that Capel's teams don't defend the LNC. Even in 2004, when we missed the tournament, we only lost three times at home.

I agree. Capel, Joe C., the assistant coaches, the players and everyone else that works for the basketball program cares much more than any of the fans. It is their life.

I also think Capel learned a lot from last year and this year. One more year isn't going to kill the program.

One more heart attack isn't necessarily going to kill Dick Cheney, but I doubt his family wants him to suffer one.
