OT: Football Talk

Oh, it’s not on the official website! Oh my. Who is our special teams coach? Just because a guy isn’t listed on the official website doesn’t mean a whole lot anymore. Analysts do a lot of coaching now.
FWIW Sooner Illustrated just posted about Johns being the ‘quarterbacks coach’.

He's just pissy because he never got to be the QB coach at OU. I personally never cared much for Gundy. But that's just because my personal experiences with him. Always acted like he was better than everyone and his **** didn't stink. Never came across as a kind person.

Gabe Ikard is the last person who would give a platform to someone who is anti-OU. But let’s pretend you’re right and Gundy is bitter. That doesn’t mean his analysis is wrong.

And his point is, there shouldn’t be three guys helping quarterbacks. There needs to be one guy whose only job is to coach quarterbacks. Not multiple coaches who also have other coaching responsibilities. Clearly, the guys who have been dabbling in helping the quarterbacks have done a terrible job, because Arnold has gone backwards since he got on campus, and Hawkins didn’t exactly impress in his audition.

Arnold hasn't impressed or developed like I'd hoped, but to say he's backslid since HS is absurd. I guarantee you that kid in HS would not have been torching SEC defenses, even if we had a serviceable OL and group of WRs.

And then to say we have too much expertise at QB after saying we didn't have enough is also absurd.

We didn’t have a special teams coach last year. Another great move.
Yes, we did. He’s listed as an analyst but he’s the ST coach. That’s what a lot of teams do now, regardless of what you think. He has done well too.

The offense was only marginally better. Bauer Sharp must have dirt on JJF. Idk why they are trying to make him the focal point of the offense. That tight end pass ruined any chance of a comeback.

He should never see the field. Criticall false start, several drops, runs backwards on a screen and loses 5 extra yards. And did you see his block? No of course you didn't because he doesn't.
Hats off to Jovantae Barnes, he played a great game. Maybe if the coaches would stop subbing for him every 2-3 plays, he might get some rhythm going

I legit don’t think there is a better option

Today is an example of our defense not being as good as people think. Mississippi has struggle to score in conference play, we have a lead at half, and our defense gets absolutely shredded in the third quarter. Don’t get me wrong, the offense is obviously the main issue. But a great defense wouldn’t have folded like a cheap suit when we were in position to potentially steal a win.

I agree. We have some good pieces and are headed in the right direction defensively, but we still need an upgrade in our secondary, and edge rushers.

Meh. It happens.
You just can’t expect a defense to consistently come through

I mean, our offense always came through when it was the strength of our team. Our defense wasn’t in a tough position today. Our offense possessed the ball throughout the first half, so our defense was rested. We had the lead. Mississippi has been struggling to score and was missing their stud receiver. It’s not asking too much for the D not to give up a million yards and two touchdowns in the third quarter.

When sexton went out for good, the offense bogged down and the 3rd string LT couldn’t hold up. The OL is historically bad and we have ZERO playmakers on offense. The defense is really good but not elite yet. We still need more playmakers on defense. We have one really good pass rusher that teams can scheme but the rest is just ok and CB is a weak spot.

With all the injuries, we have very little talent on offense. First half we were able to chip away and have success. Second half Miss adjusted. They took away the first 7-10 yards and we couldn’t stretch the field at all because we couldn’t protect the QB.

There was some improvement out there today. Barnes played well. Arnold made some really nice throws when he had time. Defense wasn't up to the task in the third quarter after Ole Miss made their defensive adjustments and began stuffing our O. That was one hell of a throw by Dart on the run to his right to move the chains. The TD on that drive was a backbreaker.

I just cannot believe the line is this bad. Some of these breakdowns are just unfathomable. The one guy you have to block and you just whiff?!

I get Woodi Washington hasn’t been great this year, but is he really worse than Walker & Malone? Gentry Williams being hurt has been an issue. But the defense was definitely good enough to win again.
