OT: Football Talk

Well being on the opposite side of your opinion is comforting to me
Yea. God knows I’ve been proven wrong so many times by Brent and Moser. Our two programs are having so much success, my head is spinning. Can hardly count all the wins!

It can be worse. Hawkins was worse than Arnold.

Play Thompson
Do you want him to die? Thompson can’t play. That’s why he hasn’t played. He would be a sitting duck and probably end up in a wheelchair with this OL.

It doesn’t matter who the QB is in the last 2 games. We have no good options. This season is over and we won’t win another game. This team is a disaster. We need a complete reset from the top down.

I think he hasn’t played because we didn’t want to piss off both JA and MH. That’s out the window now so might as well play him

If he was scared of playing he would have hung up the cleats. Let the kid get some run in his last chances

I think he’s here to retire at OU and probably get into coaching. He’s had numerous injuries and he’s nowhere near the player he once was. He would’ve probably retired anyway but came to OU to be a part of the program. He would get killed behind this OL. Like real brain injury or not being able to walk without pain for the rest of his life.

unfortunately it's cost prohibitive to fire bv this season because of his massive contract.
he'll likely get at least one more year. i wonder if the people that would be on the hook for paying off bv's contract in the event of a firing....will consider
option b. pay up to get a top oc and a portal qb. might be cheaper in the long run.

If I were OU, I would pay a qb guru to review tape of JA and MH and give a report on who has the most upside. As bad as they have looked, I sthill think there is talent there and an experience OC should be able to get it out. We won't be keeping both, and probably neither. But if possible we should try and retain one

We can't even line up and run our plays our blocking is so bad. We can't protect enough to make throws past the slant.

It's the most limited football I've ever seen. That said: Xavier was great.

Why Jackson puts the ball on the ground so often, i don't know.

I always liked Theo Wease and he put it on us. respect. helluva play by him and Pyne.

It's really bad. There was a play in the 2nd half of the game Saturday, we had 3rd and medium, pretty much a passing down. Spencer Brown was one-on-one with a DL. When we snapped the ball, the lineman slammed straight ahead into Brown, no swim move, no stunt, he just used brute force straight into his chest and knocked him straight back into the QB. JA saw the guy bearing down on him and folded to the ground to avoid being mauled. I remember telling my daughter, that there are HS linemen all over Oklahoma who would have made at least a 90% better effort than Brown did. He did help JA up off the ground so they both could run off the field together...smh

yeah....4th and half a yard....and they line up in the shotgun and lose 2 or 3 yards. genius.
then....late in the game...they suddenly discover they have an unstoppable back on the roster who hasn't even played all season.

A RB who was 5th on the depth chart. Demarco has got to go, immediately for that. (He did the same to Tawee, just a dumb dumb RB coach - or too prideful? Regardless he ain't it at all.) Sawchuck, Barnes, Tatum, D-3 kid...Xavier. What had he been doing?

Also, a RB who was moving the chains and we proceed to go pass, pass, pass, pass with an abhorrent OL.

None of it makes any sense and is frustrating beyond belief.

agreed. So frustrating to watch. He recruits well but that will likely diminish as more people realize what is going on...that he doesn't play the best backs

When we have second and one, and we try to pass? How stupid can you be. Thats not on Demarco but it is on JJF and also Venables for not getting on the headset and saying " listen,, in second and short we are running, not passing

Not to be contrarian here, but second and one is a prime spot to take a shot because you know you have another down and all you have to get is a yard. This is a very common occurrence across the sport and not something to knock a coach for. Could the playcalling be better? Absolutely. I just don't think this, specifically, is one of those instances

When we hire a new OC, I really hope he sends DM packing. JJF is already gone. I’d like BB to stay but if the new OC wants to bring in his guys, so be it. DM has to go.

It can be worse. Hawkins was worse than Arnold.

Play Thompson
Disagree. Hawkins was not worse than Arnold. Hawkins' mistakes were mostly from being aggressive. Arnold was committing some of the same mistakes that got him benched. He's not accurate, can't read and is indecisive when he can. Ball security is a given. The lateral against Tennessee should have been his last play this year.

I don't have time to pull the numbers but I would be very surprised if the offense performed better when Hawkins was in the game. It was pretty clear he doesn't know the offense yet and can't process what he is seeing yet with guys in his face. I'm not saying that JA is by any means great at this either...but he has an extra year in the system. Even with JA's boneheaded mistakes, he still gives us the best chance to win IMO.

That being said, I don't have a problem if we start Hawkins. We just need to choose who we see the most future with to try and convince to stay. We need to hit the portal for a QB but we also need one of JA or MHJ to stay as well.

Did you watch the first quarter against South Carolina? That was just as bad as JA against Tennessee. It was so awful. Hawkins isn’t ready. He may be good in time but it won’t be this season. Hawkins is a one read QB. IF it’s not open he runs. That crap won’t fly against anyone with a pulse.

Arnold is looking like a bust. Yes the OL sucks but at times he has a good pocket and is still a deer in the headlights. He doesn’t look like he has what it takes to play QB at OU, Neither does Hawkins so far.

Those five minutes were awful, no doubt, but Teddy and Gabe were all over the play calling in those first three possessions--specifically, that plays were called that asked Bauer Sharp to block USCs all-world edge guys--that's almost like letting them go unblocked, and they were, according to Gabe and Teddy, directly responsible for those turnovers. I'm not saying Hawkins is great or even good yet, but JA's had many more chances and has yet to show out.

We need a portal QB next season.

Sounds like BVs wife’s cancer came back in May.

Ivee often wondered throughout the year if BVs mind was somewhere else. Would be difficult to subconsciously be 100% invented when your wife has cancer

I think when you don't improve from one game to the next on things such as unforced errors it rests solely on the coach. with as many resources that are put into this program we should be recruiting better talent and have done so historically, up until this coaching staff. They're either just not as good as projected or practices/preparations are not as good as they have been in years previous. I think BV simply does not pay much attention to the offense in preseason and it's caught up with him now. The quick nepotist higher of Litrell spoke volumes to me. Unfortunately we have to endure as I don't think anyone's buying him out of a $45 million contract
