How much of an impact has the coaching staff changes had?

I see little to no personality on the staff during games. Steve Henson was a good bad cop to Kruger's good cop. Do we have anyone like that now?

Staff is fine. Always good to have a young guy like kevin, Crutch will be a HC within 2-3 years

coach Hartman is one of the most emotional asst coaches I've seen at OU.

I'd say the team is tough position....so are the coaches. No one on the board (me included) want to win MORE than the players and coaches. (Yes, I've been critical of coaching during the game threads.. :facepalm)

I also know (coached a little hs not like some here) that mental state of the players is probably pretty "fragile". Yes, they are D1 college athletes but they are still young folks who honestly probably have never been in this position on any team they've been on.

First, it's not Kruger's style to chew a$$...never has been, players respond to his style...just like Bobby Knight had guys that responded to his style.

I'm not sure chewing a$$ right now will help. The kids know they are in a funk, if you've ever played any sport (heck even in rec league) you KNOW when YOU screw up...I'm sure every kid would tell you what THEY need to do better.

This SUCKS...I hate seeing the team Chit all over themselves every game...BUT, I'm sure they hate it more.

I'm sure the balance of coaching...chewin a$$...moving forward is a delicate one. Hopefully some positives happen over the last few weeks.

It is hard for me to say this, because he is a McPherson, Ks guy, but, no one, other than LK, on this staff is in the same league as a coach as Steve Henson.

The #1 question for me is can this coaching staff recruit? We know Crutchfield is a good recruiter. I don't have a clue about Hartman or Kevin Kruger? If they can't recruit, what do they bring to the table that makes them worth their annual salary? If the answer is player development, I haven't seen much evidence of that to this point of the season.

I think BOTH of these are up in the air right now. Unfortunately, going through a season like this kills the "patience" for anyone. This next off season and the 2018 recruiting class in my opinion are HUGE for the current coaching staff. Next season, the excuse of "we're so young" is no longer a fall back option. And the 2018 recruiting class is key to start filling the gaps in behind the guys like Odomes/James/Doolittle/McGusty so that when those guys are Jrs/Srs we already have their replacements on the bench learning the ropes to hopefully not have the same "re-building" pains we are currently experiencing. I think the biggest key for the 2018 class IMO is more about basketball IQ even if they aren't the greatest athletes. This season has shown that just because you're an athlete, that doesn't equal wins if you don't know what you're doing when having to be thrown into the fire early on.

It's been brought up before, but I really wish (and assume the staff does too) that Odomes would have red-shirted last season and would only be a RS freshman this season. Multiple guys (Odomes/James/Lattin/McNeace and to a lesser extent Doolittle and McGusty) have a LOT to work on with certain parts of their game this summer to be able to finish off some of the close losses they had this year. I honestly feel like the talent is there for these guys to take that next step, they just have to want to improve on their own to make that happen.

Great question. Especially in a time like this, Kruger needs guys that can go out and get some difference makers..

Is OU's point guard for next year on campus?

maybe/maybe not...

I think if we don't get TY then Krug may stay with who he has. I think Shepard has done decent, considering...supposedly Strong is having surgery and that is why he's not 100%..

I would rather go and get someone for the following year early than just give a ship to give a ship.

Maverick, i don't think we're alone in what we want to see for our program in the not too distant future. I, too, envy programs that are in a position to use a redshirt on a recruit or two each season and allow them to develop without burning a year of their eligibility. In retrospect, that would have been the best thing to do with Odomes last season.

At the same time, I understand why our coaches thought he would be further along by seasons end. I did, too. Rashard was a scorer deluxe his senior season in high school, and that included (believe it or not) a 50% average from three point range. I thought James might redshirt due to a devastating injury that kept him off of the court until the state playoffs, but I expected Odomes to play and be a factor by the start of conference play. I was wrong on both counts.

I get frustrated sometimes knowing Rashard is capable of so much more than a repeat of his dribble drive in every game. To be perfectly frank, I don't blame him. I think he's doing exactly what he has been told to do. If he's not following our coaches' instructions, it seems to me he would have altered his pattern by now to avoid having his minutes reduced.

Don't get me wrong, Rashard's dribble drive can be a valuable weapon. He's good at it. I just don't think a player who can do so much more should be turned into a one trick pony. The same goes for Jamuni's baby hook, and Khadeem's baseline jumper from twelve feet and in. It makes game planning to defend this team too easy.

I have mixed emotions on redshirting. I think it would have been a good thing for Odomes last year. He may be a one-trick pony with his offense, but he's by far our best defender.

Sometimes you want to "process" a player as quickly as they can. With Strong-Moore's shoulder he could have easily been redshirted. Now I'm glad they didn't because he gives us 1 of the 2 scholarshipships for 2018.

I still will not be surprised to see a player or two transfer after this season.....

I think a balanced approach is best and is what is missing. Not that we need to start throwing chairs.

Don't see much interaction between the staff and players during the game, outside of Kruger and Crutch to some degree.

It would be interesting to hear from someone that has been to practices especially those that have seen the 2 staffs and are able to compare them.

If TY passes on Oklahoma, then here is another possibility ...

The OU staff definitely has an interest in Walker. I read last week that LK and Crutchfield went out to watch him play the end of last month. OU hasn't offered yet, but I think they will if Trae picks another school. Walker has a total of eight offers, two of them (OSU and K-State) Big 12 schools.

We obviously need something from the coaches during a game. They sit like statues while Lon claps his hands twice.
