Concerned about our O? I am

Seems be a lot of that weave junk lately. Less inside out. And Spangler's reluctance to shoot of the screen roll is hurting spacing. Thoughts on our O? Am I overreacting?

Since this is a worthy topic on its own, I'll repeat what I said in response to CMSooner's post on another thread:

Very true. That was a serious problem early in the season when our three backcourt players were playing like we were in a four guards set. When Kruger finally got them to run the ball through Thomas and Spangler more, that's when our offense started to click.

For some reason, they seem to forget about that sometimes and go back to what they like to do: run the three guard weave at the top and shoot threes. If only they would accept the fact that they'll get better shots from the perimeter by playing an inside out game.

Offense has been this team's weakness the entire season and the analytics bear this out quite well.

It has kind of turns into a double edged sword at times now. When we go into the post, Thomas and Spangler feel like they need to make a play since they finally got the ball and often force it too much and take a bad shot, get blocked or turn the ball over. This results in the guards trying to do it all on their own and doing the exact same thing.

They need to realize that every possession is not going to produce a positive result. But if they stick to the plan, more positive results will happen and they can get in a groove.

Fran hit the nail on the head last night when he said we were trying to hit a home run every trip down the floor.

Been a problem all year and I even sometimes hear LK mention it as a problem during the TV interviews. Too late to fix it now. Better hope we are hitting the open jumpers when we do get them.

Certainly. We just don't have a good half court offense. That's not gonna change before the tournament. Hopefully it will over the summer.

It is now the perfect time for Buddy to get on a hot streak. If he does OU will make a lot of noise.

OU's pick and roll is easy for teams to defend because no one respects the bigs' ability to step out and hit jumpers. I would have like to see Lon get away from this sooner last night.

However, I think it's worth noting that the offensive numbers are down the entire Big 12 tournament. Fran said this has a lot to do with the familiarity teams get after a 3rd time around, and I agree. Even Iowa State's high powered offense has failed to crack 70 in 2 games.

It will be hard for teams to defend our team on two days practice. That's why I really like our chances to get to the second weekend. Those two teams knew each other so well last night nothing really ever got going on either side.

What will make us a tough out is our defense. Offensively, we're limited and there will be times during the tournament when we struggle to score. Hopefully we just keep defending and rebounding.
