I have always thought Joe C was going to give Capel another year but I almost positive about it after this week. OU won two Big XII games and I think they have a chance to win others based on those wins. I will be shocked if Capel is fired after this season. It would be the wrong move.

Not if we lose the rest of the games by an average of say 20 points. We have to look at the body of work after the season. I don't think it's likely he'll be fired after this year. But next year is an NCAA Tourney or he's gone season.

I think it's a work in progress, but I think he did a LOT this week to save his job. I'm proud of how this team hasn't quit on him. He obviously did a REALLY good job of setting expectations and coaching these guys up on how to fight.

I'm also EXTREMELY proud of Cade Davis, because he could have EASILY quit at this point and he obviously hasn't. Instead, he's a hustling leader, teaching this young team what it takes to win.

The Sooners would have had to go winless in the Big XII for Capel to be let go. And even then it was doubtful.

As things stand now, our coach is beginning to show that Joe C. did, indeed, know what he was doing when he hired Capel.

this whole "NCAA tournament or he's gone" business is a load of crap.

that's not necessarily the standard.

that may be your standard, but nothing says it is Joe C's. nor should it be.

once again basing everything on NCAA tourney results is pure folly. it offers little to evaluate a program by about 80% of the rules instituted by the NCAA.

I agree. What if OU is a bubble team, goes to the NIT, has a nice showing and is returning, Fitzgerald, Blair, Pledger, Goff, Osby, Clark, Newell, the new pg, etc. You darn sure don't fire the coach

Will believe it when it happens... We beat gosh dang CU you would think we beat duke.

I always felt he would be back next year unless we were getting blown out of most conference games. After the past week, I think he is here if it doesn't implode.

So, the fact we are 10-9 shows Joe C knew what he was doing by hiring Capel? What about coming off the worst season in 40 years of basketball last year? Does that also show Joe knew what he was doing by hiring Capel?

I'm all for Capel succeeding because it's best for the program and he's a very nice guy. He deserves some succes based on how he handles himself and represents the University of Oklahoma. However, to make a statement like that is just really asinine.

Easily a top 10 dumbest statement the board has ever seen. Congratulations. :ez-laugh:

How in the world after two games does it now show that capel is a good coach!?

We beat colorado and T-tech..and colorado played terrible....

We still have the same lineup we had two weeks ago, and unless we are able to sign a recruit that is a good scorer we are going to be flirting with the bubble of the NIT...potentially not making that..because you almost have to have 18 or 19 wins just to get into the NIT nowadays

Booger, I'll overlook the unprovoked personal attack and simply remind you what I stated in my post. I believe what I said was: Our coach is "beginning to show" that Joe C. knew what he was doing when he hired Capel. And I also believe that anyone outside of the BOB and a few other Capel haters understood that statement to be in reference to the improvement Capel's Sooners have shown in the last two games.

That obviously seems to be an overstatement to you. But this is a Sooners team that you and most of your cohorts so smugly stated could easily go winless in the Big XII. Now, after OU wins two straight conference games, your only response is to attack another poster for praising the Sooners coach for the improvements that his team is making. I may be assinine and I may be dumb, but at least I don't talk out both sides of my mouth and, unlike some, I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong.

And one other thing: Please stop trashing Capel as a coach in one breath, then saying what a swell guy he is in the next. That act is getting pretty tiresome. Oh, and here's a :ez-laugh: for you too.

Yes, he'll be back. And then he'll be back in 2012-13 if he gets next year's team to the NIT.

Even though i wasnt one that agreed with it...

I dont think his job has been in jeapordy at all this year...most that are closer to the program predicted this before the year

^This is the correct response, IMO.

I do think his job was in jeopardy IF the team would have won 0 to 1 games in conference and quit. They are not showing that and agree with the original post that I believe he will be back. That doesn't change the fact that the other poster did make an overstatement that this now shows Joe C made the right decision. Far from it. All this shows is that it hasn't been a colossal bust. It would have been if we were coach searching after this season.

I don't care how you worded it...dumb statement. That doesn't mean you are dumb because even the smartest people in the world make dumb statements. Don't always think everything is an attack.

Also, I don't believe I trashed Capel in my post. I said he did a poor job last year, and I think that's the truth. The poor recruiting is what has led to the poor start this year. Unless Capel can make the post-season this year, I don't think anybody can say at this point Joe Castiglione knew what he was doing when he hired an up-and-comer instead of an established coach. Maybe next year if we make it back to the NCAA and don't look back for a few years after that, then yes, that statement could maybe be made.

Just my opinion. :ez-laugh: for you too.

Hilarious. What I did say was that Capel is "beginning to show" that the AD knew what he was doing. For those with reading comprehension problems, that means I believe the last two games have provided some evidence that the AD was right. I'll stand by that.

I was surprised at how we played and beat Colorado. It was a good win. But if anyone thinks it's suddenly a great year if we win 1 or 2 more games this year they are kidding themselves. We basically would have regressed from last years performance which was the worst OU season in almost 30 years. Basically this will be the worst season in almost 30 years followed by the 2nd worst season in almost 30 years. That can't be good for any coach. It makes next year a serious hot seat and it leads the basketball team to lower expectations. Some on here are basically saying NIT is good enough to keep him another year. That shouldn't be what OU basketball hopes for or what ours standards are. An NIT year is a disappointing season for OU.

After the three (McD's) stooges left us with nothing, he is starting over. All we can realistically ask for is improvement YOY.
