Knowing that his gamble is not paying off and brought OU's basketball to its doom. Also do you think he's just delaying and hoping that thing will turn around? Or is he not caring about baskeball at all?

Well if the rumors i have heard about him are true (him bragging to everybody about the hire after the elite eight season) then his pride could be severely hurt and he doesnt want to admit defeat. Just a guess based on human behavior since I have never met the guy.

If Bill Self or Jim Boeheim have Blake Griffin and Willie Warren, they would have won the whole thing a.k.a Carmelo Anthony.

I dont disagree, and have argued that fact in other threads. And again i have no idea if those rumors are true, that is just my best guess based on what i have heard.

The only problem we had that season was we faced North Carolina. If you want to argue that team gets a 1 seed and doesn't face NC till the final 4 maybe I agree. But anyone was having a tough time beating NC that year.

The year before NC looked pretty tough. I thought they won the whole thing too, but Bill Self and Kansas beat the heck out of them. Tom Izzo won the whole thing with the same talent. Good coach knows how to game plan and use talent.

Not at all. Joe C is a stable person with a calm understanding of the circumstances that led to our temporary struggles. Simply put Willie Warren got hurt last year and TMG & Tiny Gallon were busts. Period. End of story. You can't win without talent.

Joe C also knows he has a stud 35 year old coach who already took over a disaster on probation and quickly had them in the tournament. That coach will have a long successful career at OU.

Joe C is also smart enough to ignore the loudmouth know nothing constantly complaining fans whose outlook is 3 seconds long.

You are probably right. That OU team was really talented. I still think AJ should be playing somewhere in the league if someone like Sefalosia is playing in OKC. That's basically what AJ is except a better passer. But Blake Griffin is a serious talent, Taylor played a year in the NBA. There were other nice parts to that team. We probably weren't as deep as KU's team was or Michigan State's teams are. If we played in any other bracket we make the final 4 and maybe the championship game that year.

I don't remember the exact details but didn't Blake Griffin have a bad relationship with Capel/the coaching staff while he was playing? Again I don't remember everything clearly right now it was 2 years ago but I remember some discussion about how he hadn't even talked to the coaches during the season or something like that. Maybe someone else will remember.

We should have seen signs of Capel not being that good a coach a long time ago. And maybe I was right in what I was saying in some of my stuff about him his first year when he didn't play Nate Carter for half the season and tried to play Neal as something he wasn't. But I'm still not sure that would have won a lot more games that first year if we played Nate all year and put Mike Neal as the 3 point shooter he was.

Boca your passion for optimism is really quite amazing. I am curious, can you tell me what makes Capel a stud?

Is it x and o knowledge, recruiting dominance, his system etc? Enlighten me, because I was enthusiastic when he first got here, but I don't see it now.

I'm not as convinced in Capel's coaching as you seem to be. What has Capel really done to say he's a great coach? Take a team with a lot of talent to the Sweet 16?

so recognizing that we have no offensive identity, cant play defense, and have no discernible substitution patterns means our outlook is 3 seconds long? Good to know because you just describe a lot of long time posters on this board. Even Big Time, Sooner Sam, and Faithful have questioned these things

Faithful hasn't been around

I think I am hanging it all up just like Faithful and others. I don't think we can ever be up there again. There are so many good coaches out there (Bill Self, Tom Izzo, Jim Boeheim, etc) who attracted talent, it will be a long time before we can really compete. We just got lucky that we have a big time recruit in Blake Griffin from the State. That's why I am amazed at the Butler coach. How he was able to pull off something like last year was incredible? Unless we have a serious X's and O's coach, we will alway be at the bottom dweller.

By the way, Happy holidays to you all.

There have been several elite prospects from OK with offers from all over the country in the past decade and Capel was the only one to actually snag one for OU. He deserves credit for that.

I think Joe C is thankful Stoops didn't strongly consider the Florida job.
