Do you think this is killing Joe C inside?

Tyler Neal was the player of the year last year. He had a teammate that was really good and went to A&M also. I would have liked to have seen Clarke come to OU. We had no shot at Xavier Henry, so really the only one I regret not getting for Capel is probably Clarke.

Capel is destroying the OU basketball program. I am pissed at the current state of the program and so should Joe C. I am tired of the excuses, OU is one of the worst teams in the big 12. Fire Capel, he is in over his head.

I think Joe C is thankful Stoops didn't strongly consider the Florida job.

Like that was ever even a possibility. There was absolutely zero chance Stoops was going to Florida and anyone that thinks differently is delusional.

Firing Capel at this point in time would accomplish nothing. With the uncertainty of the NCAA investigation hanging over our heads, no decent coach would take the risk of coming here. We would be worse off than we are now. Joe is doing what is best for the long term. Let Capel do what he can to build up the talent base again. Once the NCAA issue is resolved one way or another, decisions can be made about Capel's future with OU.

Because of their small rosters, basketball teams can go from being really good to really bad in a short time due to injuries, graduations or defections. They can also get better quickly with the addition of 2 or 3 quality players. All the griping in the world isn't going to change the fact that the fans just have to wait it out. They hae no other option.

You raise good points, MsProud. But when is the NCAA supposed to rule? It's been quite a while, given the fact that OU is cooperating.

Because this is torturous.

Not at all. Joe C is a stable person with a calm understanding of the circumstances that led to our temporary struggles. Simply put Willie Warren got hurt last year and TMG & Tiny Gallon were busts. Period. End of story. You can't win without talent.

Joe C also knows he has a stud 35 year old coach who already took over a disaster on probation and quickly had them in the tournament. That coach will have a long successful career at OU.

Joe C is also smart enough to ignore the loudmouth know nothing constantly complaining fans whose outlook is 3 seconds long.

Your enthusiasm for Capel is sickening. This guy is way over his head and the sooner we move on the better.

I don't even know what their procedures are. Not everyone gets the 'expedited' process that Cam Newton got and his family reaped hundreds of thousands of dollars. :(

Who would you want us to hire?

It won't be a head coach from a major D1 school, and it won't be a coach with much experience.

If you remember back to when Sampson left, many people were expecting Tubby Smith, Jay Wright, or Calipari (HAHAHAH), etc. None of those guys even contemplated coming to OU.

This is because we have poor fan support, a non-bball friendly arena, and bball is second fiddle @ OU.

Also, Bob Stoops makes almost $5 mill per year, which is another reason why we won't land a big splash type hire. We simply won't pay 2 different coaches that kind of dough.

Who would you want us to hire?

This X100 I am dismayed at the state of our basketball program but I honestly don't think we could get anyone to take the job that would be worth the upheaval it would cause:(

I watched the game on ESPN3 last night and almost gouged my eyes out. We played hard but with out discepline you are just wasting effort. Not to mention we are just a small team compared any Big 12 team and lots of mid majors. Fitz did his best but he really looked undersized next to their interior players. I feel bad for our players, if we are this frustrated think how they feel.

Again, i think i have to calm down and remember this was going to happen this season. OU really got burned by a couple of players last year that had no desire to be in college. With the Tiny situation and the negative recruiting against OU this spring, OU is almost at the bottom of the barrel. Joe C is not an idiot and the solution is not always firing someone because of a few speed bumps, and I agree with some that right now OU does not look like an attractive job. All gonna come down to Capel finding the right players and some diamonds in the rough at PG. Cause right now Blair, Pledger, and Newell cannot get it done against decent teams. Just have to hang in there and await the NCAA fate and hope that Osby and Goff are what this program needs to start getting this thing back on track...

I'm as disgusted with the current state of things as anyone but having trouble thinking of a replacement that would have an immediate positive impact. Our program can't afford the risk associated with BCG. I agree that it would probably only mean 1-2 more similar years of rebuilding at best while the new guy gets his system and recruits in.

I don't disagree, but I'm just about ready to endure those two years under an up-and-comer (if that's all we can get), rather than endure those same two years under a coach who seems unable to get the best out of his players. As I've said often, it's not just the losses, it's the nature of the losses, the quality of our play.

An less-talented team can play smart and hard. This team achieves the latter at times, but rarely the former. I'll take this bunch of guys over last year's group, for sure, but can anyone honestly say, as limited as our talent is, that we're playing the best we can, that we're reaching our full potential?

I sure don't feel that way.

I agree. Mickey Mouse could do a better job of coaching that ragtag group of guys than JC. What Joe C has done to the basketball program is disgusting and unacceptable. There is no excuse for the sorry shape the OU basketball program is currently in.

Until people stop giving Joe C a pass, nothing will change. A person(s) would have to be a complete moron to waste their hard earned money watching that rubbish on the floor.

It is time for people to start holding Joe C accountable for the debacle he has created. Once the money dries up, the appropriate action will be taken to correct the situation.

.

what make s Capel a young stud? He is a young fat man with a good job that used to be a really good athlete. That is not my definition of a stud. The guy is liter rally 50lbs over weight and he is pId to be in a gym all day.

The "who would we get that is better??" posts remind me of something Stoops said about Ahmed Kabba shortly after he arrived at OU: "I think we can find somebody to replace a guy that caught 8 balls last year."

Investigation? -- The outcome of the Tiny Gallon NCAA investigation is moot. The program is already dying a slow death right before our eyes. The NCAA need not take action, as we are watching a self-imposed death penalty. The OU basketball program is in a coma, and our doctor seems to have no answers or cures.

Recruiting Stud? – So, what big time recruits are coming in next season to help right the ship? Would it even matter, as none of them seem to hang around long enough for a fan to form a memory that they were here.

Fan Support? – I spent over 30 years as a fan that looked forward with great anticipation and enthusiasm as I drove to the LNC to see each and every game. I spent years as a perpetual sunshine-pumper on the various message boards when others dismissed the accomplishments of consistent 20-win seasons, wins over ranked teams, first round byes in the conference tournament, and post-season invites. Well, I still go to the games. I still support the team. I still hope. But, even though I did not think it possible, something has slowly drained the enthusiasm from the soul of this OU basketball fan. It is now becoming a long drive down to Norman and the winter months seem much longer too. They used to fly by.

Exciting brand of basketball? – I am a simple fan. I get excited by wins. Pretty. Ugly. Up-tempo. Slow-down. Does not matter. It is substance over form for this simple fan. Watching and marveling as a well coached team finds a way to win against another well coached (and often more talented) team. I miss those days, those ancient days of yore.

Hope? – I am losing hope for the future. Someone, please, tell me why I am wrong on this count. Lay some facts and logic on me. Explain why we should stay the course. Nothing discussed so far on this thread gives me comfort.

Options? – Are there not some good high school or small college coaches out there with 20 years of experience that would be thrilled to work for 25% of what OU is now paying? Could they do any worse?

Look. I personally like Coach Capel. The above verbiage is a rant of frustration. Nothing would please me more than to see this team develop over the course of the season and pull some upsets over some good teams. But I also want to see some clear indication that the program is back on the way up. If not ...

Best post in a long time. The problem is very simple. We lost TMG and Tiny unexpectedly after all the good talent had been signed in last years class.

Contemplate that TMG and Tiny stayed and put in the work Pledger and Fitz did. What would our record be? 9-2? 10-1? 11-0? We lost our center and pg and scrambled to replace them with a transfer from New Orleans and a juco from utah at the last minute.

I like the young nucleus we have. Adding Goff/Osby fill our main weakness. We are on track to be right back near the top of the Big 12 pecking order next season. Texas and Kansas are the only teams we don't have the possibility to pass. KSU, A&M, OSU, Mizzou are just a notch above us right now. This doom and gloom is a joke and the fire is being fanned by trolls. Sad to see how many weak OU "fans" get sucked into their nonsense.

All this from a "fan" who admitted to turning our games off once we fall behind.

Given that, how much Sooner basketball could you have possibly watched this year? We've spent the vast majority of this season trailing by double digits.

I'll match my devotion to Sooners hoops alongside yours any day of the week. And you're not even in Sooner Traveler's league.

"Trolls," indeed. This from the "fan" who went on a torch-bearing crusade against Cade Davis. Truly the pot calling the kettle black.
