Don't remember past teams getting pasted like this

What is OU's identity under Capel? Does anyone know what his preferred style of play is?

2006-Use Carter to score, go outside with Neal for 3. Hope Neal is hitting a long with AJ and a young T-Crock.

2007-Get it in to Blake. Get it in to Blake. Get it into Longar as well. Have T-Crock have really good nights, combined with a defensive wiz known as Austin Johnson

2008- GET IT INTO BLAKE!! JESUS CHRIST, GET IT INTO BLAKE!! WAIT, GET IT INTO JUAN PATILLO. Have AJ hit incredible 3s, still go unappreciated, watch T-Crock spill out 30 point games out of no where, watch Cade hustle. And oh yea, watch T-Griff do all the rest.

2009- Let's play really hard the first 12 minutes and then collapse at home. (And I'm not going to blame this on Capel, he just got some bad seeds unfortunately)

2010- Just hope to god we make 3s and Cade plays great.

but there's no real identity I've picked up on. Basically, if we have talent, (or you know, someone who is going to pick up 40+ and 15+ in the future), get it to that person.

OU also took 3 of 4 in that series (I think a 4 year period) so I don't think it is all that fair to focus on a single game.

I would never talk bad on any of those teams during that stretch. I still remember being so excited when Ebi Ere owned UCONN in Connecticut.

groah .. not the "there is no reason why OU should be at this point" and similar 'entitlement' theories.

There is most definitely a reason why: crap fan support.

Support the program like the sport that shall not be named is supported and this doesn't happen. Treat it like a stepchild and it grows/shrinks in cycles.

Remember that baseball NC we won a few years back? Notice how we fell into oblivion a couple years later? not a coincidence.

I agree about the identity thing though. I don't think we have enough oomph as a program to just recruit straight...we need an angle. The absolute fastest guys, all lefties, anyone skinny and over 6'7 - idc what he needs a system to recruit to because this ain't cuttin it.

I think our fanbase did a pretty good job of supporting the 2008 team.

Yea, it was because they were good, but what really does come first: the chicken or the egg?

But I agree that our fan support now is dreadful. However, I wouldn't be surprised if crowds pick up once January and Feb roll around and a good K-State or Baylor team is coming into town...

OK. How about all our losses to OSU during the Sampson era? That is not a one game deal. It's all of these games.

January 16, 1995 - OT Loss (Capel is 6-0 in OT)
March 11, 1995 - 74-58 BLOWOUIT loss, Bedlam sweep
Feb 26, 1995 - 89-67 BLOWOUT loss
January 27, 1997 - another OT loss (Capel is 6-0 in OT)
January 26, 1998 - this time we lost to them in Norman
February 14, 1997 - two losses to the Pukes in one season
March 4, 1999 - Kelvins 7th loss to OSU in 5 seasons
Feb 12, 2000 - Another loss to the Pukes in Norman (Capel is 4-0 ini Norman)
Feb 14, 2001 - 72-44 BLOWOUT
Feb 13, 2002 - another OT loss (0-3 against them in OT) Capel (1-0)
Jan 13, 2003 - we scored 46 pts and lost again
Jan 15, 2004 - 77-56 BLOWOUT
Feb 16, 2004 - another bedlam sweep, 65-52 in Norman
Feb 7, 2005 - Kelvins last game against OSU is his 14th loss in 12 seasons.

It's not like we never got smoked or beaten repeatedly by one team before Capel was here.

By the way, this isn't meant to be to just one poster. The UCCON comment just reminded me of this. I agree, we played well against UCONN other than the masacre the year Lavender was a freshman.

Sutton had some pretty good teams. lol I guess that would be my only excuse for that.

I had no idea Capel had such a great OT record. That's interesting.

OSU has been real down since Jeff has been here. And we still have some losses to them under Jeff too.

the Arena will be packed, i just hope that unlike last year its mostly OU fans

I think my fear is that we may not get beat by 30 points in a few games like last season, but instead we'll lose a ton of games by 10-15 points. And that shows a lack of talent but an increase in trying harder.

I have high expectations for the basketball program, I just can't help it. There is no reason why OU basketball should be in the state it is right now. Give me a really good reason. However, I'm definitely down to giving Capel another year with better postplay to prove himself.

So we have had 2 arse kickings in a row after a horrid year and no post season last year. Would KU put up with this crap? Why can't we have somewhat similar expectations?

The KU fans would not pack the phog with this team either. Heck they are selling season single game tickets for $20 right now trying to fill up the phog with a top 10 team. The economy has something to do with it as well. Not like the old days you have to pick and choose. You can buy a 52' flat screen at Cosco for $475 and watch all the games or spend $200 taking your family to a basketball game.

Dude the Kentucky game wasnt an ass kicking.

there are no moral victories. ou is judged based on wins and loses, i am already tired of the excuse of being young.

Im not happy with this team, but losing by 12 to a top 10 team on a neutral court is not an ass kicking.

I don't think that's really an excuse. We just aren't any good right now and not well coached. Which is sad, moral victories are good if you actually grow from them. This team hasn't so far.

I watched the entire game from start to finish it was an ass kicking. Yes we pulled within 6 late in the game however once that happened UK turned on the D and we were done. OU was never in that game, UK never felt OU could win that game and either did anyone else watching on TV or on site or playing in it.

I don't believe in Moral victories that is for losers.

that's pretty alarming if true.

It is true (losing double digits in Capel era) and I thought we were going to add to it today at the 4:00 mark. Thanks to Cade 3 pt barrage or it may of happened again.

7 x 07-08
9 x 08-09 (this is very alarming)
1 x during our final eight run
14 x last year
2 x this year and counting.

It's Time!

This is not about Sampson. You could hate his offense and you could hate him and several did but the fact remains that he has the best w/l percentage of any OU coach. So pointing out a serious beat down under Sampson doesn't change anything in the past.

This is just not a good team. I think this is only the 6th win by Chaminade in all of the history of the Maui.

Our guys just did not play up to their ability level the last two games. On ball defense was bad. Help defense was bad. Shot selection was bad. Blair just got cremated on defense. We have got to do better moving forward.

we have some good parts. Pledger, Fitz, Clark and Newell can play at the Div I level. When you get commitments as late as we did last year you can't expect to have a lot of talent. I think Newell was the exception. Clark and Taylor were good gets but we needed more when our McD all-americans defected.

We are in for a tough year. We will win some more against the mid-majors and if we play well we will beat some of the Big 12 bottom feeders and maybe we will win a game or two we shouldn't on sheer guts and inspiration but we are not going to break even in the Big 12. Hope I am wrong. I am usually a glass half full guy but I just don't see the talent with this bunch.

Man oh man what has happened to this program?

In the 80's, 90's and 2000-2007
(with the exception of 80-81)
We were never whipped like this. I always felt confident we would have a competitive team, we weren't afraid of any team or program. We are NU's BB program right now. OU was considered one of the top 3 teams in the league most years. No post play 2 out of the last 3 years? Is that correct?

I have zero confidence our current staff can get it done.

You don't remember it because it's NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.
