Dont start the Neal is not athletic crap

I have seen him play twice, so I'm not an expert. But, I think Lucky hits it on the head -- is he quick enough laterally to guard the 4 on the perimeter. If so, then he will play because we didn't have anyone this year that could.

I also think Smiley accurately sets out my assessment, e.g. he is David Little except stronger. That is exactly what I thought when I saw him play. I will say that at the high school level, he had an uncanny array of shots around the rim -- very heady kid.

I am not sure how he will turn out, but I stated a couple weeks ago on the board that I would like to see OU offer him. I guess I just like the 3-4 position kids, Neal and Clark, and the versatility they bring. Another thing about him, you won't have to worry about him pouting about not getting his shots, he struck me as the consumate team player and he is a very good passer for a big.

This may be the biggest thing he provides because through competition in practice, he and Clark will make each other better. Clark would be practicing against air in Willis and Pledger. In this kids case, he can contest clark's shot and can move around with him on the wing. He's also going to help fitz in situations because he can imulate a Moses or a Craig Brackins or any of the good moving 4s we see.

I'm not bagging on the kid at all, it just seems weird that all of the sudden they offer a kid no one has ever mentioned before and now suddenly it's a "good get." Maybe he'll turn out, who knows, maybe it's just a case of not being in the public eye enough, but at the level of ball he was playing I find that hard to believe. I hope for out sake it turns out great, but I don't think you can fault people for being skeptical or calling this kid a reach.

It's OK to be skeptical. Personally, I'm comparing him to other prospects that have been offered. If you look at a guy like Nick Sidorakis, who we have riduculed because of a debate where OSU fans said he was better than Cade, it was obvious that Nick was not a player his first two years. This year, Sidorakis was a major contributor and a big reason to OSU's improvement. Now if I were to compare Neal to Sidorakis or Godbold I would give the edge to Neal.

By the way, he is being referred to as 6'6, but he looked taller than that to me when I saw him play, and everyone was saying he was about 6'7.5. Anybody know how tall he is, he looked about the same height as Fields to me.

That's why I don't follow recruiting at all. Somebody throws out the name of some JUCO we've never heard of and all of a sudden he's a must. If we don't get him then, oh well, we never needed him anyway. It gets old after a while.

This kid is now a Sooner, and I'm happy to have him. I was happy to have the clowns we signed last year too that brought us all the trouble. Once it's official, and I know he'll be here in the fall, then I try and learn something about him.

No one has mentioned?

His name has been floating around here since the beginning of February. Longer than any other recruit not named Aziz or Terrence Jones.

It's funny cause I just told one of my friends yesterday that I wished Capel would go offer this kid after watching the NCAA tourney. And I didn't even know we were talking to him, honestly. He sounds like a player in talking to some people I know and respect. High bb IQ and the ability to shoot goes a long way in this game. And if his vertical is really that good, he is plenty athletic to play in the big 12.

Welcome Tyler Neal. I think the best thing that has been said thus far is we traded Ray Willis for Neal, and I'm sorry but that is a trade I'll take every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

He has a pretty nice stroke and seems to move well laterally.. In a regular year where schollies may have been tight I could understand the drama but right now ?

David Little literally had a 6 inch vertical jump. He could barely get off the floor. He seems like a much better athelete than Little.

Glad we picked him up. Seems like a player with a nice shot and an arsenal of moves around the bucket with touch on his shots.

Hopefully we can refrain from the ridiculous statements in either extreme direction about him and realize we picked up a nice player who seems like he can play and will likely not worry about being "one and done"........

Welcome Tyler!

This kid is a far better athlete than Hardrick, Willis, Pledger, and Fitzgerald combined. Kid moves well, has quick feet, gets off his feet pretty fast, is long, has a nice vertical, and is versatyle enough to play two positions. The few things I observed about his game is he has a slow release from three point distance, but a rather quick release closer to the basket. In the paint, he makes his move quickly towards the basket, with just one dribble at the most. He has a really, really, nice touch. He's going to contest more shots than Fitzgerald. I believe he's going to be a nice player.

I find that statement highly suspect. It took Fitz and Pledger a while to show their potential, but I would not go so far as to say that a kid who hasn't played any d-1 ball is a better athlete than all of those guys combined.

Yeah, um, let's see if this kid ever leads the team in rebounds when he gets a start.

LOL at the Ray Willis rebounding references still being tossed around

Can't speak for other posters, but it's funny to me because leading the OU team this year in rebounding is a lot like being the tallest midget.

That and the rest of his game, especially his defense, wasn't close to being good enough.

Bragging about 7 rebounds in a game, while giving up 20+ points on defense is pretty funny.

I saw enough to realize the kid wasn't Oleg. He had some athletic ability and some pretty good hops.

Was he a good defender? No? Was he Oleg? No, but some are lumping him into that category of a complete scrub, and I thought he was a better player than that.

you're right, he's definitely no scrub. very true.

I hope he finds some place where he can settle in and perform well.
