Elite Players

Why in the world would we have passed on D Adams?

It also struck me yesterday that the "heavy girl" at Texas - I apologize that I can't remember her name - would be helping us. And although she played a lot last year she is just subbing for them now.

Don't forget that A Paris hired an out of state "mentor" to help her get in shape - and it helped her enormously. Why in the world couldn't we do that for her - since she clearly wanted to lose the weight and was motivated to do so?

I think you are referring to Jones. She didn't play a lot yesterday but she did score some points.

I'm proud that OU has been to three Final Fours, but look at the players we had when we went! My point is that we do not have those caliber of players. I attended OU and received my PhD from there, so I'm proud to represent my university. I've been a long time fan of women's college basketball, every since I played in pep band in undergraduate. I'm not saying the team will be awful, but they won't be as good per our standards. I'd LOVE to be absolutely wrong, but in terms of probability, there's a greater likelihood that I will be right. That is all.

We probably won't go to the Final Four--this year.

There are a few caveats to your statement...
1. AParis slimmed down her senior year, but took her physical/conditioning/muscle tone to a new level with a bay area "mentor" before she went to camp with the WNBA Sparks. Based on some rumor and some "from the horse's mouth", the only reason she did not make the final cut with the Sparks was because Candace Parker made the decision and wanted a friend of hers to make the team, although Michael Cooper wanted AParis who was the better camp player.

2. SC never appreciated or allowed...based on rumor...the twins high school coach or anyone else for that matter, to help with development at anytime while they were at OU; during the season or summer. It was frowned upon and not permitted when the free throw shooting guru (can't think of his name right now...lives in OK and an OU alum...has worked with NBA players/teams) showed up to work with them with their high school coach.

It is probable you are speaking of Dr. Jim Poteet. He wrote his Phd Dissertation on the "The Paradox of the Free Throw" at Oklahoma State University. I had a cousin who was a 75%+ free throw shooter at OU but took up the Poteet technique in his 50's in an attempt to aid young kids learning to shoot free throws. He said prior to learning the technique he had never hit more than 150 consecutive free throws. After learning and practicing the technique for a couple of years he frequently made 500+ consecutive free throws.

While Poteet taught like everyone else to focus on technique and repetition. But what differentiated his method from others was to focus on the process instead of the out come of making the free throw.
