Embarassing 11 minute finish

Those last 11 minutes of regulation were painful to watch, no doubt. We're obviously a young team, and we'll have to get used to these scoring draughts. However, to basically either turn the ball over or get off a bad shot on 11 straight possessions is something I'm not sure I've ever seen before at any level of basketball. On the bright side, we have a great coach and he'll use it as a great teaching experience.

My only long-term worry is if we're on the NCAA bubble and this game is what leaves us out. It would bring back painful memories of the '92-'93 season which we blew a game against BYU in similar fashion at the beginning of that year.

We kept trying our hand at the half court game when the 1st half we were trying to push the ball up court. The half court works when there is an inside game or an intermediate game as opposed to just relying on squandering all of the time on the clock and then being forced to jack up the three ball. And we did this over and over.

I was stuck at work and was following the progress of the game via text play-by-play in a sports app. It was going so well, I was dying to get home and watch.

Then the final quarter of the game happened.

I deleted the damn thing from my DVR the second I got home.

Yes, it's a young team and yes, they've got to learn, but they didn't blow an eight-point lead -- they were up by 18 freaking points. There has to be a way to win that game, some adjustments that can be made.

It seemed like Woodard and Lattin were responsible for half the turnovers -- that's really inexcusable. If our upper classmen can't be counted on for steady play, who can? I mean, cut the turnovers by a third and we win handily.

And good lord, I don't ever need to read Klint Carlson's name again. I was astonished to learn here that Lon had Lattin on him.

I know it's childish ofme, but it was tough to see Coach Kruger smiling and yukking it up with the opposing coaches afterward. I love that he stays on an even keel and I didn't expect him to be throwing a fit like we fans sometimes do, but sheesh, he could have taken it a little bit harder.

One of the problems is we expect too much out of some players who are really marginal at best when you take a step back and look at it from a rational perspective. I know people don't like the term role player but that's really what Khadeem Lattin brings to the game. And he sure has a knack for wanting to put the ball on the floor which is usually the death knell for big players.

Lon sees this game for just what it is - schooling. I wanted to see what I wanted to see out of curiosity. Lon knows what he is doing so I will be happy with what I get. if an OT loss to UNI is what keeps us out of the ncaa's then so be it. even then it's still a game and the sun will still rise. pure silliness.

The same could be said about every aspect in life thus why show emotion at all?

Woodard was really bad tonight. Losing the ball. Falling all over the place.

James looked bad as well.

But my gosh there were some epically terrible calls in this game. Especially vs. james. My goodness I was so mad watching this game. Even when it was a blowout. We were getting mugged.

No one on this board has been more of a staunch defender of the OU players and coaches through the years than you, Skyvue. You've been the epitome of optimism. Because of that, I now feel a little bit less guilty for yelling at my TV during the last quarter of regulation :).

The sun will rise and hopefully we'll all live to see another day. And yes there will be something to be learned from this game. However it doesn't excuse the poor performance from our veterans and our coach. You play every game to win. Period. Throwing one away like we did tonight accomplishes nothing! As a coach this game would drive me nuts. It was a very disappointing way to finish that game.

When and if Mrsproudsooner joins in you know it's time to reach for the cyanide capsules.

I swear even some of te travel calls and offensive fouls were crap

If you really want me to go into this I will. But not in this venue. These people don't want to hear about Buddhism.

Right.

Yeah, I remember some real stinkers during the first couple of years of Lon's tenure. SFA in Norman was terrible as were some other head scratchers. This team is VERY young and has to learn. That is how Lon produced the team last year....learning thru experience! The talent is there to be a very good team but you have to learn to play as a team.

As recently as Buddy's junior year, there was a lot of discussion about how they lacked toughness and couldn't hold a lead.

Not the first time a team blew an 18 point lead.... won't be the last. This team has lots of lesson to still learn. Hopefully by January sometime OU will be much better.

They will be, but it seems to me, we didn't lose this game because of our youth -- we lost because our upper classmen played poorly, and that's awfully disappointing.

At the end of the day the problem is we're depending on Lattin to be a scorer. He's not.

He loses the ball too easily when going up for a shot, his mid-range game isn't reliable and really the only post move he has that's dependable is the alley-oop.

It's really a crying shame Lattin didn't learn the sky-hook because it might actually be a shot he could make on a reliable basis.

He's a great energy guy. I wish we could bring him off the bench.

Woodard had a bad start and it wasn't his best game but he's the most clutch guy we have.

This was about as bad of a game as I have seen Woodard play. I'm not referring to his shooting. His court awareness and decision-making really hurt. But, I think it was also a mistake by Kruger not to bring Freeman in. They were giving us the outside shot, and mugging us in the middle. Freeman is our best at hitting that shot. We needed someone to hit a jump shot, a three if possible. We were doing dumb things trying to get inside.

+1. The lack of adjustments from Lon is what bothered me the most. Freeman didn't play the last 13 or so minutes in the game. He was fundamentally sound when he did play, and is probably our best 3 point shooter.

Guys these types of games are going to happen with all the freshmen and sophmores on the team. I've been telling people all offseason that we will miss Cousins more than anyone else on this team because Woodard has never been able to handle a pressure defense, thus why he was moved to a 2 guard. Honestly, I think you take your lickings and put him back at a 2 and try to develop Shep or another to be able to run point. I can remember many many games where Woodard would be in full court pressure and would get in a corner, pick up his dribble, and either lose the ball or he'd just curl up. This team will probably beat someone it shouldnt, but you can also expect them to drop some it shouldn't and expect a couple of big losses. They will learn from these things and get better because of it and in another season or two, will be competing for a league title. James needs to be the guy that takes control of the team on the court and be our go to man. I still see him being a guy that'll average around 15 ppg next year and 18ish his sr year. They just have some growing pains to get through, and you have to think Trae Young sees that he'd start day 1 at point guard if he came to OU and be a guy that takes this group to the next level.
