Espn called OSU a 8/9 seed

I don't see that at all. In fact if they lose to Tech they may not get in at all. I think they might be an 11.

No they weren't. They specifically referenced playing an unknown 1 seed in the second round. They would have referenced KU if they were talking about the Big XII 1.

ESPN's Bracketology has them as a #9 seed and why ESPN would call them an "8/9 seed"

But I took a quick look at some of the resumes for the bubble teams. From everything we have been told is that the committee cares a lot more about quality wins than bad losses. Here are team's Top 50 and Top 100 RPI wins for some bubble teams

Okie State
5 Top 50 wins
8 Top 100 wins

Nebraska
3
7

St. Joe's
4
6

SMU
4
4

Memphis
5
6
(and split with Okie State)

GWU
3
9

BYU
3
7

Tennessee
2
7

Iowa
5
7

Arkansas
4
8

Cal
4
8

Georgetown
5
7

So, Okie State's resume looks pretty good if you just look at those numbers. And we have no idea how they will deal with Smart's 3 game suspension. IMO, they shouldn't give any benefit of the doubt for his suspension.

I agree. They had a four game losing streak with him before the suspension started

It was a joke bro, cuz you know, they are an 8 seed in the Big 12 too.

Right on, Max.
Ou didn't get any benefit of the doubt when Blake went down against UT and we lost to Ku without him, too. Not only did they not give us the much deserved 1-seed, but they put us in the worst region of the tournament, featuring the best 1-seed in unc and Syracuse as the toughest 3-seed.

KU's streak would have stopped at 4 if not for Blake's concussion. We were 11-0 in conference and 25-1 overall until he got hurt against texas and missed most of that game and all of the KU game 2 days later.

Here's another bit of quick math: the Poke lovers in the media keep talking about the 0-3 record during Smart's suspension. But they still finished four games behind OU in the standings.

I don't know if they get in unless they make the semi's in KC. They are 8th in the league and the Big-12 will be lucky to get 7 in. How do you take a team that finished 8-10 in the league over a team with a 9-9 record? The Ags better come to play in KC, I think they lose in quarters to KU.

I think OSU is in and I think they deserve to be in. I just don't think they are an8 or 9 seed. I think they are an 11 pr 12

Yeah, but one was against OU. If they had won that game (I think they would have with Smart), that makes up two games all by itself.

Because getting into the NCAA tournament is about your total resume, not just what you did in league play.

If you're referring to West Virginia, they did absolutely nothing in the non-conference.

They played a weak NC schedule (NC SOS rank #214) and didn't beat any of the halfway decent teams they actually played. Their best non-conference win was against RPI #118 William & Mary. Their next best was against #171 Old Dominion. Thus, even after going 9-9 in a very tough Big 12, their RPI is currently sitting at #84.

And as noted earlier in the thread, there is a very weak bubble this year, in part because the SEC is so bad.

That's why all of the bracketologists have OSU as easily "in" right now, despite OSU going 8-10 in the conference. We just have many more quality wins than every team that is still considered "on the bubble."

I haven't looked over the entire field yet, but osu "feels" like a 10/11 seed to me.

Some of that depends on how they do in the Big 12 Tournament, how the teams they are competing for seeding with do, and how the Committee chooses to treat the games Smart missed.

Honestly, I would much rather be a 10/11 than an 8/9.

Most of the time, I would agree with that. This year, though, the only #1 that would scare me is Florida. Otherwise, there isn't going to be any talent difference between the #1 and #2 seeds this year.

As for OSU, they will need to beat Texas Tech to be considered a single-digit seed. If they lose that game, they might want to play it safe and root for WVU to lose as well. If WVU runs the table, I doubt the committee will take 8 teams from the conference....meaning somebody's not going to be happy. If OSU takes care of business Wednesday and beats Kansas Thursday, they'll get in that 8/9 slot for sure. If they win 3 or 4 games this week, they may even work there way up to a #7. It's definitely a bigger week for them than any other team in the conference in terms of seeding range.
