I agree with the point you are making about stats and offensive production...but Marcus Smart is an elite defender and makes their defense go as well.

Actually, Marcus wins hands down in offensive production. Because, you know, he is really offensive.

I'll confess, I giggled

Finally, something we agree on. :ez-laugh:

I disagree that he's an elite defender. He's a good defender but he constantly gambles and gets out of position so his steals are high but he gets burned a lot by good teams.

Smart averaged 17.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 4.7 assists. He also shot 42% from the field and 32% from three, while turning the ball over at the rate of 2.6 per game.

Brown averaged 17.2 ppg, 5.6 rptg and 3.0 assists. He shot 47% from the field and 38% from three, with 1.6 TOs per game. Brown had more blocks. Smart had more steals. Otherwise, their contribution to the team has been remarkably similar.

I love, love, love Markel Brown, but this straight-up stat comparison is unfair for a few reasons.

First, to say that Brown "has more blocks and Smart has more steals" is a bit misleading.

Brown averages 1.1 blocks per game and Smart averages 0.6 blocks per game, which isn't a huge difference.

In steals, Smart leads the Big 12 by a large margin and is 5th in the country. Brown isn't even in the top 15 in the Big 12 in steals.

Also, Smart is doing what he's doing running point guard 95% of the time.

Yes, Brown runs some point, Smart achieved his assist-to-TO ratio (1.9) as the primary ball handler and PG, while Brown achieved his (1.8) being primarily a shooting guard.

Brown is a great college basketball player and I'm glad he's on the team, but Smart is the better overall player.

I just hope Kansas beats them by 20 today!!

I would certainly not predict OSU to beat Kansas today, but here are the scores of the four games we've played against Kanas in the past two years:

  • OSU 85, Kansas 80 (Lawrence)
  • Kansas 68, OSU 67 2OT (Stillwater)
  • Kansas 80, OSU 78 (Lawrence)
  • OSU 72, Kansas 65 (Stillwater)

The four games have been decided by a total of 15 points. Two of the games came down to the last possession.

If I were a betting man, I would bet today's game will be close, and possibly decided on the last possession.

I said I hope and not that KU would beat them by 20. I always want the Sheepherders to lose and if someone can embarrass them it is all the better.

uninterested?? i hate that BS excuse.. :facepalm

Well it's prob subconsciously true. Kansas had the conference Locked up. Osu was playin to get in to the tourney. Even if they didn't realize it I would guess Kansas wasn't fired up like they usually are

I'd take Brown on OU's team any day of the week (Not meaning anything negative towards the players we have now). I dislike OSU, but Brown is one of the few players in recent memory that I enjoy watching from there.

No, they actually were quite listless.

I wouldn't say Kansas was uninterested in that game. They just turned the ball over too much.

Kansas' weakness is their guard play. They got in a close game and couldn't handle the pressure. That's why they kept turning it over. I mean we beat Kansas both times we play them if Tharpe doesn't go off. He's really their X factor. If he doesn't play his best against solid competition, they usually don't do well.

To me, it looked more like they were rattled than uninterested. But there's definitely more than one way to view a game.

I think the dissintereted goes away when you realize you are in a game. Souch as when OU went to KU. When KU realized OU was not going away early, they picked up there intensity. OU for our part stayed with them the whole game. KU may have started the OSU game not as fired up, but they certainly got that way when OSU did not go away.

If you look at the four OSU-Kansas games over the past two years, this is the way it's gone.

OSU's guards have pretty much rattled the KU guards and forced a bunch of turnovers.

Last year, KU had 16 turnovers in both games.

This year, KU had 19 turnovers in Lawrence and 22 in Stillwater.

Anything can happen but I would expect a close game or KU winning by 10ish. I say this because OSU lacks depth, just played and is always susceptible to a bad shooting game with limited ability to compensate by going inside.

I don't know why so many OU fans think OSU isn't a good team. They are solid and can beat just about anyone in the country but have weaknesses, including depth and post play.

Who ever draws OSU in the first round is not gong to like it. They will be a very tough first or second round game, especially for the seed they get.

Definitely don't think they're a bad team, just extremely shallow and very dependent on 2 guys.
