Florida at OU

Sad to say, but SC brought our program from nothing to a very good one, and now she has taken it back down to nothing. If this staff has any feeling for this University they would resign effective end of season so Joe could begin to look for a new head coach and turn this program around.

For the most part, Florida just let us shoot. No blocks. Only fourteen fouls. They let us shoot and went to the boards.

We won the turnover battle: 21-7.
We won the block battle: 3-0.
We won the steal battle: 10-4
We won the bench point battle: 48-0.

We lost the rebound battle: 56-31. ?!! Really, by 25?
We lost the shooting battle: 58.8% to 37%.

Now, here is the curious part---we hit more field goals: 27-23

They hit more threes: 12-3. Anderson was six of seven from three!!!!

They had more free throws made: 22-4

You can't give up 25 more rebounds. At least, tip the ball out. We were letting it bounce over our heads. They forced us too far under the boards to be able to rebound. Vivi?

Did you see the two free throws that Shaina missed? They were of to the right of the rim and didn't touch the rim, bouncing off the backboard, about a foot to the right, missing the rim by at least three to four inches to the right.

You can't just throw the ball at the basket and call it a layup.

Gabbi--0 points? Maddie had two last game. Vivi had four. Wow! Two weeks ago, they were leading the Big Twelve. Couldn't miss.

She has had three good recruiting years in a row, although last year's left. I don't see her leaving until the cupboard is stocked.

With Ana, Shaina, Madison Williams, Tatum, Taylor, Jesse, Aspen, and Nydia, she has a reasonably solid foundation. I think she is too competitive to leave until she gets a class to the Elite Eight.

Sorry for this rant, but today’s game made me wonder why I donate and attend these games. I don’t like feeling that way about Sooner sports. The term “mailing it in” comes to mind when assessing the performance of our coaches and seniors.

This coaching staff is lost. SC may know her theory, but she’s not getting in transferred to the floor. Her assistants might as well be comatose. Florida coach and assistants were animated, involved. Ours sat on their butts.

Vivi has no endurance. Conditioning clearly isn’t a priority and it shows. IJ needs to play more so she can get in better shape too.

SC could very well lose this team. Frankly, today it appeared that a couple of seniors have already folded up tent.

SC can throw them under the bus publicly, but I wouldn’t. I’d play the ones who play with max effort and let the others watch. Give Ana & Shaina 35+ minutes every game. Play IJ 25 minutes every game. Play Mandy 30 minutes a game. Split time between Maddie & Ortiz and play the hottest hand slightly more minutes. Vivi can play maybe 20 minutes and Williams 10.

The season should be to develop Shaina, Ana, Simpson and IJ. Get something out of it other than embarrassing losses like today.

SC said post game that Shaina would get more minutes if she played better on defense. Note, without her on the floor they lose by 40. If she played 40 minutes we might have lost by just 3 or 4.

Seriously, fans are going to give up if this becomes the norm. No excuses, not even being undermanned. That is SC’s fault, she recruited 2 girls who left. She didn’t recruit more players a year ago or even this year. Apologizing doesn’t cut it for me. If she thinks that’s enough, it time to retire.

I don’t expect a championship. We are relying on freshman and we lack depth. I can enjoy watching the older players compete even if they lose. But they aren’t competing. I think they believe they are. But competing means getting better, not repeating mistakes. It means finding ways to overcome your weaknesses and improve your individual performance. When you make the same mistakes as a senior that you made as a freshman, you aren’t competing, you’re going through the motions. By now, I think they’ve resigned themselves to mediocre careers.

I see nothing happening. I see the season going downhill. I see risk of next year being a repeat.i have no confidence that Joe C. will put her job on watch. I don’t see SC replacing her assistants. I wish I was wrong,

I try to stay optimistic, but this may be the year we miss the tourney. If we do it could be a wake up and staff shake up.

I have decided that I will step down from my 15 year stand of a fan(atic) of OU women's basketball and just be an ordinary well wisher.

Sherri was well and truly pissed at her presser.

There will be NO wake up or staff shake up and we will ride into the sunset this year same ole, same ole(or maybe worse).

That presser is the most painful thing I've ever watched. After a weekend of celebrating the football team making it to the playoffs, this is quite disappointing. I think it's time for new assistants, at the very least. I'd ditch Coach Ross, who I feel is a barrier to recruiting elite talent. It's time to finish the friendships and get back to doing what it takes to win. Texas, Baylor, and company are going to eat us alive, and we will have to suffer through it.

I am in the same boat. I debated even watching the game today. And I will NOT be paying to watch anymore games online unless they pull themselves together. They don't even try competing. this is SC's fault. The players that have been with her for four years are making the most mistakes - missing open layups (gabi - every dang year), traveling without any pressure (Maddie), not even trying to get conditioned enough to compete with the ever evolving post game today (vivi). SC should have instilled more discipline and fundamentals in these girls over the years, but they are even worse than they probably were in high school at some points, which is the sign of a lazy coaching staff. These assistants appear to be the most lazy, uninspiring group I've probably ever seen. Rarely do I see any of them get animated and actually coach on the sideline, especially Jan. Just pathetic. I hope with the better, more talented players coming in next year we have more success, but SC's track record is not good and I don't see her developing any of this new talent. Like I've said, I almost just want them to continue getting their butts whooped so she gets canned. But even more, I wan them to play like they care and actually compete, they don't even have to win, but just play like they actually want to be out on that court. Like so many of you all have already said, I think most of these seniors have already checked out mentally.

What stinks is that OU does not fire people. Like, ever! I can't remember when the Athletic Director fired someone that was not involved in some kind of turmoil.

Educated basketball fans could see that this is where the program was headed. Recruiting has been mediocre, the good recruits have left, players haven’t played fundamentally sound in years and zero quality assts to challenge Coale.

So you expect her to coach until she is 72 because it might be another 20 years before she makes it to the Elite Eight again.

Sooner Cal; Seriously said:

Pretty much describes most players that play for Sherri. When they leave Norman they will not be much better than when they became Sooners.

I have decided to become a mere supporter of the team rather than the fan(atic)I've been the last 15 or so years. Sherri's success came years ago and didnt produce consistent, outstanding success and OU slowly has gone downhill for years now. Recruiting has been steadily declining both in numbers and in quality sufficient to sustain a conference competitive team much less a nationally competitive one. So far this year the team has performed pitifully poor and no one can see them competing for a conference championship.

Agree. Never been a fanatic, just a fan.

I do not believe Sherri has the right to be pissed. It starts at the top. I believe it is on her. What players has SHE developed? I started watching during the NCAA tournament of 2001. I cannot say much before the end of the 2002 season. I honestly am not sure they would have gotten to the finals without Bo Overton. I have no clue but the coaching (to me) seemed to drop off after he left. Had Courtney's friend who went to Texas not suggested they play for Oklahoma, I am not sure we would have gotten them. That probably lead to us getting D-Rob, Thompson,
Stevenson, Whitney. But did those players get better? D-Rob did because I think she had the drive to do so. I think Thompson was way over-rated. She got better, but again I believe it was her drive. Stevenson was just so athletic, she was going to get better if she wanted to and she did. All three of those players thought they would play in the W. With Whitney, I believe she got better, and it is difficult to predict how good she might have become if not for injuries. I kind of doubt she would have been able to play in the W, but maybe.

Sherri will not stick around until they get back to the elite 8. Not in my opinion, because they will not get to the elite 8 unless she brings in new blood to coach with her and they are really great coaches and she lets them do their thing. I am not sure she will do that.

I do not have anything against Sherri. I am not mad at anyone. Just my observations. I will also reiterate that I believe Sherri wants Colton to eventually be the head coach and that Colton wants that. I do not see that happening unless he goes somewhere else and does a great job and then comes back.

Joe fired the baseball coach last year.
I know nothing gonna happen but at least Joe should meet with her and lay down some things that need to be done with the staff and her. The higher ups at OU has to know for the money that's being paid to Sherri and results on the court doesn't make sense. If it was me I would rip Sherri for 350-500k, don't know if that is even possible or not

Syb, I agree with everything you say except one thing -- Maddie too needs to be benched and subbed in. She plays like crap more than she plays good. It's time to move on. She isn't the answer in any way, shape or form.

I agree, messing up your knee more then once is going to effect anyone's play... I think Manning could have been at star at one point, but that was six years ago. To expect anything other then leader ship from her at this point is a bit much, ViVi is decent, but if she shouldn't be anyone's go to player... Vivi normally comes on around conference play, but she seems to be lacking confidence right now and often gives up if she's posting hard but not getting the ball...

Shay is the best scorer on the team and I think the team could go as she goes, but to do that she would have to start... this team can't make up that gap in years, Manning has been playing the 4 spot for the last 2 seasons pretty much, why change that now? the starting 5 should be Shay, Gabbi, Williams, Manning, Vivi. Ana could still be used as the 6th man, and Mandy would be better served as a backup rebounding 5, she doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with most of the fours in college basketball, but is built and can rebound even as a undersized post...

My grandchildren will be old or dead before that happens after seeing what I saw Sunday.
