Football question

We know you were secretly hoping for OU to perform poorly today. I'm sorry that is not how it played out.
Nope I’m popping bottles that we are bowl eligible! Your post was great comedy so I do appreciate it.

For the non-trolls who actually want to discuss the game — obviously the defense was great. Did exactly what you’d hope to see against that offense. Sellers avoided a few sacks but it didn’t lead to any big plays. Was frustrating to see the penalties and lack of discipline hurt us on their one scoring drive.

Offensively, I’m not sure why we got away from Blaylock for a long stretch after he had so much success. Weird day in the pass game. We converted some third downs through the air and the TD was a nice throw, but the overall numbers were meh. Still wish we would throw downfield more but I guess we didn’t need to today.

Now the real “fun” starts. Going to need to play close to our A game the rest of the way.

Looks like today we are headed to a 6-1 start and securing bowl eligibility with still 5 games to go. Brent Venables is doing a damn good job this year, there's no doubt about that.
Yes BV is doing a good job this year. Need to improve on punting and punt coverage. Also need to get a running game going. When the game is close, need to be able to run the ball to kill the clock.

Dude Have you watched the other games? Special teams have been damn near flawless.

Super happy to see the non-QB run game show signs of life. Mateer had a B- game and we beat an SEC team by 3 scores on the road. I’ll take it. Hopefully as we get further removed from the surgery Mateer starts getting some more confidence in his hand. He seemed a little sharper mentally today but his control of the ball on balls further than 10 yards down the field seemed greatly affected by his hand from what I could tell. Developing some more vertical threat from our passing game would reeeeeally help the offense.

The only way South Carolina scored at all was because of the refs. The 4th down play, he was short of the first down. Should’ve been our ball. The 4th down TD there was 2 obvious holds right in front of the ref and they refused to throw the flag. Bogus.

Still, we controlled the line of scrimmage on offense and defense and dominated the game. Were we perfect? No. Yet we still controlled the game and won comfortably on the road.

Yet some unhappy people will never be happy. Sucks to be so miserable.

Maybe the Big 12 ref conspiracy is still going.

It couldn’t have been clearer he had the first down. We had multiple defenders within feet of him and not a single one of them reacted as if they thought he was short. Defenders usually jump around and celebrate if it’s even debatable. His last step inbounds was almost a yard past the 15.

High comedy that a month after we scored on a clearly illegal play that you’re going to say “the only reason they scored” was the replay making the correct call on a judgment call.

Wrong again. He was short. Ball in his right hand upfield of the first down. Nothing on replay showed anything to overturn the original call.

There was a lot to like from today's game - especially dominating on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Mateer was better today, but at some point he is going to need to throw the ball down the field. These never-ending short passes will bite us just like the poor offensive line / running game bit us last week. I loved the oline blocking today, at least in the first half. Blaylock and Robinson should be an effective duo down the stretch. Defensively, my only complaint was the several missed tackles...but loved both the pass rush and the WR coverage.

Would someone make sense of S Beamer's decision to go for it in the 1st quarter with a 4th down at the 6 yard line? You don't need hindsight to conclude that was an awful decision. Take the easy three so your offense doesn't feel deflated coming up empty after a long drive.

Yeah, it’s not like Miller came into today # 3 in the NCAA in punting. Oh, wait…..

Good team win! Awesome to see the oline run block better.

But, it’s concerning at the lack of downfield passing plays. Every throw looked like one read and go. Gotta get Kanak and Burks more involved.

Thank God we are playing one of the worst teams in the conference. It’s just unbelievable how many stupid, undisciplined mistakes this team has made for four years.

Also, I hope no one is playing a drinking game whenever the play by play guy says “line of scrimmage ball.”

We held them to their lowest point total all year and scored the second most. They may not be an amazing team, but they've played 3 top 25 teams, and only one of them beat them decisively like we did. This is a bowl eligible team most years in the Big 12 and would have scored 30+ on most of our defenses for the past decade with a QB like that. Instead their only points came on a 4th down play where a false start paused our defense and then got picked by a ref.

We also had two RBs run for 5 YPC after many folks like you were calling for us to abandon the run and throw it 40-50 times a game.

There's absolutely nothing to complain about today.

Technically they did this twice and ended up with 7 points, so they came out with 1 extra point.

Great bounce back game. Does this OL actually have nuts??? Idk, but at least I think that's a possibility now.

I would have ran the ball 40+ times just from the RBs today. We hit 29. Pound the ball and get these OL nastier. Get some personal fouls whatever. Get meaner. More of this.

Nice try, but NO :). The ball was on the TWO yard line the second time. There is a pretty big difference going for it at the 2 vs the 6. BIG DIFFERENCE. One has about a 50% chance of success and the other about a 15-20% chance at best.

the offense was clicking when we did exactly what gabe said......spread the defense out.
go 4 wide...throw the ball....and run against a light box.
very good strategy that worked well.
mateer still needs to be better...
defense was just awesome except for some missed tackles on the qb that were just maddening in the second half.

he needed to get to the 15 .....his left foot stepped out at the 15....the ball was in his right hand....
it wasn't physically possible for him to get the first down.
the targeting call wasn't even close....there wasn't even any helmet to helmet contact..
the refs were crooked from start to finish.

Maybe the worst call of the day was Carolina’s 4th down TD. Both the tackle and RB with obvious holding and no flag. It was terrible.

Ok. This board can be hilarious. We scored on a play that the entire country was talking about a month ago and most people here wouldn’t just admit we got a break. But today the refs were crooked.

sc wouldn't have scored today without 4 "penalties" and an illegitimate reversal of a spot call

You were wrong then and you’re wrong now. You’re just a miserable person that craps on OU every chance you get. We’ve been over it a thousand times and you will never get it because you refuse to admit the truth. You’re pathetic
