Football question

If I am not mistaken, didn’t city of Austin pay 300!million and private donor covered the rest of the UT stadium? I think that was what led to trying to get Norman involved.
Moody Foundation paid $130M. Then they did an innovative deal with Oak View Group. Oak View is a LA company that manages sports venues. Oak View contributed the rest. Oak View built and manages the arena, and for the first 10 years, they get all revenue. After 10 years, the university will start to earn a portion of the revenue from the arena.

Mateer hasn’t been good, at all. I’m willing to give Ben a bit more time for a couple reasons. One, the overall lack of offensive talent. Two, he wasn’t the guy who took a massive swing on Ott. And I guess another thing is, we still have two or three position coaches who simply shouldn’t be here. When the staff hasn’t developed a tight end or RB for three years, it’s hard for an OC to come right in and get things rolling from day one.

I agree he hasn’t done a good job this year, though. You still should be able to scheme up a handful of plays per game that get easy yards. And Mateer’s play falls in part on the guy who has coached him for three years.
Flame me all you want, but there’s a small part of me that hopes OU loses the MU or LSU game to remind Venables that changes need to be made on offense. I could totally see a scenario where OU makes the playoffs and Venables doesn’t make the necessary changes because he’s just happy they made the playoffs.

Venables has silenced the haters for atleast another year. He’s proven that he can build a championship defense and culture. Now, he needs to do what he’s gotta do to build a championship level offense. Go get the best position coaches that Arbuckle wants and go get a quarterback.

I saw an interview where Mathew mcanahey said he worked with city of Austin to build stadium as a liaison. Maybe he assisted with that company.

I'd rather OU make the playoffs.

yeah...me too.
doesn't take a genius or a loss to see the offense needs a major overhaul.
whether that is a new qb...new oc...hopefully bv can figure it out and fix it once and for all.

I think it’s not smarts it’s loyalty. I know BV probably sees how inept the position coaches have been recently. But he’s clearly very hesitant to get rid of them. He had the PERFECT excuse to completely clean house last spring and didn’t.

mateer has been awful. if we lose one or both of the final 2 games....it will be because bv made yet another terrible offensive coordinator hiring decision.
his 3rd.
Good Lord! Our QB is playing with a broken/repaired thumb on his throwing hand. We're also starting two true freshmen at OT, and a redshirt freshman at left OG.

Our RB's are banged up and/or didn't work out (Ott).

Of ALL the blame to put on the offense, Arbuckle isn't getting much of it in my book. I'm not saying he's been great, but he's been good enough to have us undefeated with a healthier roster.

Not sure if the West side renovations were brought up - but $450M estimated cost. There's no reason they can't have an on-campus arena if they can find that money, they're just choosing not to do it.

Baylor's new arena and Texas' new arena both cost under $300M.

They didn't "find" that money, they've been saving (both internally and donations) for well over a decade.

But using that rationale, he DID make a change on offense this year and well, we're still not even close to good enough on O. So what makes you think hed finally get it right next time?

So screw that, win out and see what happens (please no more extensions tho, idiot joe castiglione)

It's not 100% Brent's call. All hirings and firings have to be approved by the Board of Regents. The rumor is somebody well above BV's pay grade said no to spending money to buy out assistant coaches and replace them.

Offensive efficiency score/ranking per ESPN:

2025 - 61.8/42nd

2024 - 39.2/95th

So yes, the OU offense has been MUCH better this year.
