Football question

well i will defer to brent v ... who very much thinks sullivan is better then kobie ... ( as well as every other big time DC in college football )
Sullivan has three years left, so it makes sense he was more coveted in the portal. That doesn’t mean he will be the better player this season. Like most things I say, no one seems to actually read what I said. My statement was that Kobie is likely to be a better player this season.

And as good a defensive coach as Brent is, he isn’t perfect. He is also the guy who recruited the guys who are leaving, and some of you have been awfully quick to trash those guys since they entered the portal. Wasn’t too long ago that we brought in another portal LB who everyone expected to be a stud based on his freshman year at Indiana, and that didn’t exactly pan out.

And feel free to do your coach impression and laugh at posts you don’t like. I’ve read about five national columns discussing portal classes and none have us at the top of the rankings. We have clearly reached the point where we are bargain shopping. Adding depth is good and I’m all for it. But ideally you do that after bringing in starters at your weaker positions.

Why are you comparing Sullivan to kobie? Sullivan is taking Sammy O position, which is why Sammy is leaving. I’d prefer to keep everyone but that’s not possible in the new CFB landscape. Kobie lost snaps to Heineke who outplayed him by quite a bit. Kobie is a great kid and a good player. I wish he was staying but he has one season left and needs more PT than he was going to get at OU. No hard feelings. This is how the game is played now unfortunately. Guys don’t stick if they’re not getting enough PT and they have other offers to make money. I’m sure Brent hates it but he has to keep recruiting better talent every year. It is what it is.

I’ll defer to Teddy when it comes to linebacker play unless you or someone else on the board is a former Butkus winner. Listen to his evaluation on the current pod. He said he considers Sullivan to be about where Danny was as a freshman or sophomore. Has lots of potential and thinks he will be very good at some point, but has lots of areas where he needs to improve. Do you think freshman/sophomore Danny would have started for OU this year?
That was actually Gabe that said that

I would pick a sophemore Stutsman over current Kobie for this year.

I don't think we really know what position Sullivan will play. He could be Mike if Heineke doesn't get another year

sullivan is going to start at the MIke backer .. . where kobie plays ... Kip will be the will ..

Good work again with the lying. You truly are a master. You should apply for a job in the current administration. You would be a lock.

All kidding aside, lying is such a a scum bag move. It’s really reprehensible. But the good thing is, the more you do it, the more you show who you are as a human being.
This explains a lot about why Wichita is miserable 24/7

Coaches have voted to propose changing the redshirt rule to 9 games.

Why are people so dumb? There isn't even a point of a redshirt at that point. Just take it away and give them 5 years

Gentry to UGA. If he's healthy, that's a huge loss. But hard to pay a guy that's never on the field. Would he a huge kick in the nuts if he was still healthy when we play them. One of my favorites.

yeah....it needs to be 5 years for everyone.
if i was nagy....i wouldn't pay anyone for a redshirt year.

Kobie got phased out as the season went on. He was the starting MIKE at the beginning of the year and lost the role to Heinecke. He only played 13 snaps in the playoff game against Bama and whiffed really bad on one of their TDs. I have nothing against Kobie, he's a solid college LB. But I do think Sullivan is just as good if not better than Kobie is already and the fact that he has more eligibility makes this even more of a plus.

I think Kobie transferring to Northwest says a lot

Well, if that’s the theory, should we be worried about losing a guy to Georgia? Or will that just be dismissed since he has had injury issues? Most of the guys we have lost have landed at P4 schools, including some very good ones, while many of the guys we are bringing in over the past few days are G5 guys who weren’t exactly at the top of the portal rankings.

I think so yes. It’s a shame he was so injury prone. Tonnes of talent
I agree with you. And I am always a little confused when injured guys leave purely for that reason, as if going to a new school will somehow make them healthy. Although with our injury issues and some of the rumors about the medical staff, I guess I can see it.

It is obviously because of injury issues. He is a great player. Only played a handful of games in two years. Can't commit a bunch of money to that

We haven't a single starter to the portal yet. Job well done and is good as could be done. This is because we put our money on kids that are going to start. We spend whatever it takes to get our best kids to stay. Then, the budget issues come into play. Particularly on defense, we have recruited well and have really good and talented kids that we anticipate or project as backups next year. Examples are Strong, Devan Jordan, Jaden Hardy, Howland, Sammy O and Gentry Williams. We love those kids and absolutely want to keep them, but only at what a backup makes. In each of those kids cases, they simply found universities that will pay them starter money (which isn't in our budget to pay as, for us, they are backups). OU doesn't want to lose them, and most don't want to go, it is just a wise financial decision for them and something we can't prevent. Georgia, Alabama and other blue bloods are experiencing the same thing. Can't pay everyone like a starter, and so you will be vulnerable to losing kids that are projected as depth pieces.

As for Gentry, if we didn't have 3 fairly elite corners, in Eli, Courtney and Jacobe, we would have gambled Gentry would stay healthy and kept him. Georgia, doesn't have 2 elite corners, and is willing to gamble on Gentry. We are already paying 3, and just aren't in a position to pay Gentry what the open market will pay. Pretty easy to understand. But, like some of you, I really hate to lose that kid. I think he will play in the the NFL if he can stay healthy. OU has a lot of money and is spending a lot of money but it isn't unlimited.

Prolly cuz we didn't give him a raise and/or sought a decrease bc hes made of glass
