For what it is worth

I really hope LK's future plans aren't to recruit big guys like M'Baye to play the 3. I've been pretty vocal in saying that I think it hurts more than helps. I understand that next year may HAVE to be different in order to get our best 5 on the court, but I don't think anybody can convince me that M'Baye wouldn't be more valuable as a versatile 4. Think Ace McGee if M'Baye actually has that kind of range.

How was McGhee versatile? He was large with a very good baseline shot. I would not remotely call McGhee versatile. I would call Osby versatile. I think McGhee was a lot like Fitzgerald in that he killed people with a mid range jumper. I think he rebounded better than Fitzgerald but I see their games very similar with the biggest difference being McGhee had a more well rounded team. I just don't recall McGhee beating people with the dribble, having a power game or finishing on the break a lot. Maybe I just don't remember things correctly.

I mostly meant versatile in that he hit a lot of long jumpers, including 43 three pointers over his two years at OU, at a rate of 39.1% That is pretty impressive.

There aren't many teams in the country that are starting players at the 4 that can shoot it that well, but still also had an inside game, and could defend adequately inside.

Who was the last JUCO Big who made a huge contribution at OU?
McGhee, Grant?
Seems like a lot of busts in recent times.

Taj Gray, Jabahri Brown, and Juan Patillo all made big contributions

Well if Henry is now JUCO bound. Which means he's gone for at least one season more like two until he can get his associates degree.

Then Kruger should redirect that ship this spring.

giving him 2 ships

1 combo guard
1 juco big

I agree, but I think we need to pick up another wing type player, and why a JuCo big, aren't there quality big men still around?? I still think if Tulsa fires their coach D'Andre Wright is a very good option for Kruger...

To answer your question about finding a quality big who might be able to contribute next year. That is highly unlikely outside the juco ranks or in a case like the one you describe, where a recruit is granted his release and given a free reign by the NCAA to bypass the transfer rule.

I checked Scout's top 100 list a couple of days ago to see if there are any recruits still available in the 2012 class. There are no more than a dozen or so still uncommitted in the entire top 100. Nine are PFs, SFs or Centers. None, I repeat, not one, has OU on his list.

I'm not saying there is not a player out there somewhere outisde the top 100 who might turn out to be a good pick up for us. But the prospects of one who can contribute, at least to some degree, next season, which is what we thought was had in Henry, are not very good.

I believe that is why Coach Kruger plans to look for a JUCO player.

No please no juco big.... I don't want another Orlando Allen or heck even patillo who fails out even if he's good

Kruger had pretty good luck with JuCo kids at UNLV. Let's see what he does first.

what about high school Player

Phillip Nolan -Center
Milwauke, Wisconsin
Riverside University

back in November he had OU in his top 4

when I think of Taj, I always think of that sick off the backboard play from TE.
Anybody have a video of that?
I prefer this one at the 3:24 mark. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9QRwBQYA0Q"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9QRwBQYA0Q[/ame]

Isn't the big guy at Mizzou a JUCO kid? Good ones still exist, there are just fewer of them.

Maybe true but AL doesn't know jack crap anymore. So I'll reserve judgment until Henry officially goes juco

Yes, Ricardo Ratliffe was the #1 juco player in the country two years ago. He and Jackson at Baylor (Sam Grooms for that matter) are proof that it's still possible to find junior college players who can contribute to a team's success.

Yep. And that guard that chose LSU over us a couple of years ago, I think he is playing in the NBA, if I'm not mistaken.

So what you are saying is that he lacked the aural comprehension of what Kruger told him? He may have had vision problems some years back, but I don't believe hearing every was one.

talked to an OU coach the other day .. J henry is at Redlands CC ... very outside shot of getting him cleared for next year .. most likley not ..

Al knows his stuff with OU bball

3 Amath would be our best (or second best) wing defender on this team ... he is long very quick and athletic .. his shooting has been very very good in practice
