Ford buyout

Hurley is the exact same thing as Ford. If they're going to hire a mid major unproven guy then why not keep Ford? You don't spend 9-11 million dollars to bring in Doug Gottlieb.

I meant Dan and Bobby starting low college coaching... Not going to OSU.

If they hire Gottlieb they should hire Sean Sutton, James Dickey, and some other folks associated with the program that are familiar with how to run a team. This would let Gottlieb focus on the coaching part.

If you're going to pay the $8 million to buy Ford out, might as well call William Self again and pay him what he wants if he's open to the possibility.

No way you leave KU for that hell hole.

Gottleib would be a very good hire imo. You don't have to be a coach or an asst. somewhere before you can successfully run a D1 team. They're are plenty of examples of this. Doug is charasmatic, has a lot of energy, is bright, can relate to the young kids and would be smart enough to hire some really good asst coaches that he could lean on for the areas of the job that aren't his strengths.

Really? Off the top of my head, I can't think of an example in any major college or professional sport where a successful head coach completely lacked prior relevant coaching experience (head, assistant, lower level, high school, or otherwise). I freely admit that I may be missing someone, but I doubt there are that many examples.

I'm not saying Gottlieb couldn't do it. I just question the statement in bold above.

The same 'hell hole' he went to school at for four years and has a deep affection for. He was serious about taking the job the last time it opened.

I'm with you, I doubt he'd say yes, but OSU's AD isn't doing his job if he doesn't ask.

Wait.

You don't think Doug would accept a job offer from OSU to be their head basketball coach? In what world?

He's talking about Self. Self would be a laughingstock if he left KU for them. I don't doubt that he gave them a considerate ear when they made their pitch to him but I do not believe he ever seriously considered leaving KU. Despite his loyalties and the incredible and the total 'unique to college life anywhere on earth' allure of that place (j/k), his professional career began at KU. I believe he thinks fondly of his college days and time as an assistant coach but I also believe his true loyalties will always be red, blue, and white.

I would like to add that it is my sincerest hope that oSu hires Doug Gottlieb and pays him more than they are paying Ford now.

What could go wrong?

:facepalm

I can't believe there hasn't been any discussion about how idiotic it was for the Aggies to give Little Travis a 10-year contract with that huge buyout after his one tourney win.

But maybe that doesn't even qualify as news when you have a guy whose only real skill is correcting hooks and slices running a major athletic program...

Self will "listen" to OSU so he can have that door still open if he ever gets run out of KU.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Self if he continues to underperform in the tournament. Let's say KU has its conference championship streak broken next year, and bombs out in the 2nd round of the next couple NCAA tourney's. At that point you have to say Self's track record is looking eerily similar to Bob Stoops's, a guy who most feel is entering a make or break phase of his career.

Fords not going anywhere!

Tboone just gave him a vote of confidence via Twitter and said he deserves more time!

That settles that then. Ford must have asked for more than TBone wanted to pay him.

Holder sent out an announcement via press release, too. It's official.

I think everyone knows who's running the AD in Stoolwater. MH is just his stool pigeon. :D

You know something's wrong when it's not the President or the AD who gives the vote of confidence, but instead it's the school's #1 financial booster who gives the vote of confidence.

It's a little bit like head coaches who let their players' parents have too much say in how the team is run.

Great news for Sooner fans! I see another sweep in our future. :dance005:
