Funny how much a big win can turn things around

Vegas seems to think so, with a headscratching 2.5 point spread.

Maybe it's because they know Kansas is destined to backdoor their way into winning the conference, and ISU dropping a game like this is exactly how that kind of thing will happen.

Vegas has to get money on both sides. Thats all it means. If I wasnt a homer Id be loading up on ISU

They aren't going to get any OU action at that number. 90% of the money is currently on ISU.

Prolly should recheck where you get that number. Classic Vegas game. Tons of people will take ISU. The majority of the money and sharp betters will take OU. Doesn’t mean either side is correct. But it’s how they can be as close to even as possible.

Side Note: didn’t realize OU was 15-5-2 ATS this year. That’s wild

Ticket count is less lopsided, which means sharps are on ISU as well.

And they've lost 2 in a row ATS, and both pushes were wins if you bought early in the wing. They essentially started out the season 18-3 ATS.

Damn I knew it was good but not that good. Should have bet with my heart!

I rode that hot streak to a tidy profit. Jumped off the train after the Baylor game. I'd be on ISU tonight if the line hadn't scared me away.

This kind of reminds me of what Bob Stoops frequently said after he lost the "Big Game Bob" title. Essentially, his point was that the only games that anyone wanted to call "big" in retrospect were the losses, whereas when they won, people treated it as a routine game.

Every time we lose a game now, people act like it is a referendum on the program and Lon and where things stand. If every loss is that meaningful, then why don't wins matter just as much? Saying it would be a big win doesn't mean that people would be predicting that it will lead to a winning streak, but a win over a ranked team is always big when you are fighting for a berth/seed.

If we win it's just one game. Would I be excited? Yes. Would I then think all of our problems are fixed? No. Realistically, I don't see any way we win more than 1 more game after this one and 5-13 isn't getting us into the NCAA tournament.

You're right, of course, BOB, but that has nothing to do with WS's point. If a win is only one win, a loss is only one loss. Meaningful, but not a referendum on Lon's coaching.

I don't believe anyone implied that one win over a ranked team means the team's troubles are in the rearview mirror and will automatically signal the start of a winning streak. Just sayin'.

The Baylor game was a dumpster fire, but we very easily could have won at WVU. Before those two games, we won on the road and we ran Vandy out of the gym. Better shooting (from the line in the first half and from the field throughout) would have secured a win in Morgantown and the Vandy game showed we have it in us.

I certainly wouldn't bet the rent on us upping our game the rest of the way but it could happen. Downturns happen at some point during most seasons. Last season, we never got our legs back under us and it's possible we won't this year either. But as someone pointed out above, it's strange that we sometimes attribute so much more importance to losses than wins. We suck because Baylor blew us out, but our blowout win over Vandy means nada? We're going to be winless (or close to it) the rest of the way because we lost at WVU, but our win in Stillwater counts for nothing?

I remember us not so long ago giving arguably the best two teams in the conference all they wanted on the road. Is there any reason we can't be that team again? Not that I see. I'm not guaranteeing it, but saying we'll lose virtually every remaining game on our schedule seems a huge (and hugely pessimistic) leap. There's a reason we were so successful in nonconference play; we've shown how well we can play. We just have to get back there somehow.

Will we? I don't have a clue, but I'm not going to rule it out. I'll keep my fingers crossed and cheer the guys on, hoping for the best.

Well said, you definitely understand the point I was making.
