Future Steve Nash

He's "thicker" than I expected for a HS junior. He looks more like Steve Blake (ex-Maryland) than Steve Nash, probably because of the haircut. He made some nice passes. I wish we had him now! I can't wait.

He is very smooth and I like the pace at which he plays. His release is what I like most. It's difficult to picture a lot of misses with a stroke like that.

He'll overlap with Jordan for just one season, yes?

A game changer. Previous winners of Oregon player of the year......Kevin Love, Kyle Singler, Terrance Jones, Kyle Wiltjer and this guy....as a sophomore!

I'm excited about him too but he made a lot of plays on that video against poor, sloppy, absolutely horrendous defense. I could see him on the floor a lot with Jordan.

I was impressed with how low he stayed while driving the basketball, good discipline.

Kid can play! Likely Jr player of the Year and hey... why not win it his senior year as well...!

Keep in mind that Payton was not going up against a bunch of ragtag high school players with no talent. The NBPA Top 100 camp brings in some of the best players in the country every summer. It should also be noted that he had just finished his sophomore season in high school.

I didn't see anything that leads me to believe he is not a legit top 50 recruit and a future star at the next level. I'm excited, too!

I understand all that, Ada, but that video still doesn't show me any indication of what he can do against real, earnest defense. I don't care what level of ball he was playing. The effort I saw defensively was pitiful. I have high hopes for him and expect him to be a real difference maker but i don't take much much away from that video.

There will be a lot of competition for playing time that season at the 1-3 spots.

Woodard - SR
Booker - SR
Buford - SO
James - SO
Odomes - SO
Doolittle - FR
Pritchard - FR

Only 1 PG. Payton can play the 2, (undersized a little) and its nice have 2 pg on the floor at times.

This. Doolittle probably redshirts and Buford is a combo F. We usually play 3 G's, so if he is as good as advertised, I see he and Woodard getting some good run together.

The team he just scored 30 against in the state playoffs is the team they beat last year in the finals. Not as good as last year but still.

I've been more excited about this guy than anyone I can remember since Blake and WW. I love everything about his game one of my favorite aspects though as another poster mentioned earlier is how he stays low. Pretty stroke too. This kid could be a star!

Does anyone remember the white guard who played alongside Singler at Duke a few years back? Shyer or something I believe. Been a while since I've watched him play but that's the guy he reminds me of a bit.

Gotta wonder if we'd have landed this kid, if we'd have gotten Tum Tum, who has struggled quite a bit his freshman year at MSU.

Definitely this. I still think Tum Tum is going to be a stud but if you asked me who I wanted of the two today I'm going with Payton.
