GAME 26 - OKLAHOMA (16-9) @ #2 Florida (22-3) 6:00pm CST on ESPN2 (this should go well )

I don’t think our staff is very good but I’d feel better with an empty chair coaching the team than Moser.

Did anyone notice the crew mention that the only voices heard at OU’s walkthrough were Moser and Moore? Lends credence to the rumors that Moser won’t let his assistants do any coaching.
That’s not a rumor, that’s fact! Brock is the only one and he’s the defensive coordinator. A guy that’s never played basketball in his life.

Next year, yes. I’m not sure who their rich donor is but they do have significant NIL. But it’s also super impressive he has them playing this well after losing Pope and a lot of players.
Ryan Smith - Utah Jazz owner/Qualtrics founder and the Marriott family.

BTW, seeing Crutchfield while watching the game made me think of him. I know he’s been mentioned, but what’s the overall thoughts of him here? I always liked him, but not sure what kind of expectations we have for a coaching replacement.
No, No, and No. he’s been bad at Omaha outside of this year. And that’s a lowly conference. Someone has to win it.

The goal shouldn't be "we could do far worse". Not this time around. The program is on life support. Hiring a 56 year old, "great dude", who's been a D1 HC (at a low major) for only three years, with mediocre results (better this year but will probably miss the tourney), would likely kill what's left. Hiring Crutch wouldn't open many new NIL purse strings either, IMO. He wasn't even that good of an assistant. His agent is doing great work apparently....for some reason people keep mentioning him.

If Tulsa fires Konkol, I doubt they'll even interview Crutchfield.

OU could do better, that's the goal. Much, much better.

OU should pay somewhere around what they're paying Moser now - $2.5-3.5 per year. The buyout shouldn't change that. If they're serious about the program, they need to get closer to $5 mill per.

Will Wade (McNeese St) - currently makes $700K
Bryan Hodgson (Arkansas St) - $650K
Ben McCollum (Drake) - private school but I'm guessing $600K ish
Ross Hodge (North Texas) - $700K
Tony Skinn (George Mason) - $950K
Chris Mack (Charleston) - $1.1 mill
Richard Pitino (New Mexico) - $1.2 mill
Jerrod Calhoun (Utah St) - $950K
Niko Medved (Colorado St) - $1.7 mill
Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon) - $1.5 mill
Ryan Odom (VCU) - $1.7 mill

Buyouts could make a couple of those guys non-options (I'm not researching length of contracts tonight)

If you're looking at the bottom of the barrel (lowest of majors), you'd be better off looking at Mike Morrell (UNC Asheville - learned under Oliver Purnell/Shaka Smart), Eric Henderson (South Dakota State - man knows how to evaluate talent, they just end up leaving - Mayo, Scheierman, Kyle III), Russell Turner (UC Irvine), Eric Olen (UC San Diego), Daniyal Robinson (Cleveland State - kind of kidding here because although I like what's he doing at ClevSt, he's a Moser buddy/former assistant and nah), Andy Newman (Cal St Northridge), Alan Huss (High Point), Takayo Siddle (UNC Wilmington)...

Couldn't have said it better myself.

You don't think any of those guys would jump at a chance for a $2.5m yearly gig? Essentially a 2x to 4x salary jump to turn OU around. Coaches love a challenge. (at least most successful ones do)

Quit f***ing around. Fire Moser, Hire Wade, get it done.

Crutchfield and Baby Sampson ain't it.

I agree that we have a much better chance of hiring a good coach than some suggest. People are acting like the only good coaches are already at power conference schools and we couldn’t compete with their current employers to get them to Norman, and that’s just not true. We still pay far more than non-power conference schools, offer more resources, and, Moser notwithstanding, a much better opportunity to sign good players and make the tournament. There are dozens of guys who would jump at the chance to be our coach. The key is finding the right one, and whether Joe can do that is anyone’s guess.

People argue that outside of Oklahoma, Moser is still considered a good coach. Well I think outside of Oklahoma the job is still considered a good job and a step up for many. Plenty of talent has come through Norman. Buddy Hield, Trae Young, Austin Reaves, Fears and Oweh could all play in the NBA together. Five dudes that played at OU. How many other schools can say that?

Based on current players in the NBA this year, teams with 5 or more players on an active roster:

34 colleges

Vanderbilt, Wake Forest have 5.
Oregon St, Providence, Stanford, Wazzu, have 4.

DOH! I got the names mixed up. I said Crutchfield but meant Carlin Hartman....the asst at Florida. My bad. I only thought of him because I noticed him on the Florida bench. Yeah, I def don't want Crutch.

If Joe C hires Crutchfield, I'm going to put a bag of chit on Joe C's front porch every day for an entire calendar year.

That's how I feel about hiring Crutchfield.
I misspoke, I said Crutchfield, but meant Carlin Hartman...the Florida asst. I noticed him last night and made me think of him...yeah, I def don't want Crutch.

I did appreciate your coach post though...I like a lot of those names. So, what do you think about Hartman? That was really my original question. My bad.

It's all good.

If I came across as an as*....it's because I am one, lol, and I'm pissed at how poorly the OU MBB program has been managed...both by the admin and by the current coaching staff. Like pretty much everyone else. It's nothing personal.

I would be totally fine with Billy Ball version 2! He is 59, so I'd rather have someone a little younger, but he would provide us with a big name and he can still coach the game. Does anyone know if he still lives in the area?

I was watching the Houston game last night. One of the Houston players was out of position on defense and gave up an easy score. Kelvin pulled him out of the game and ripped him a new one as he went to the bench. Contrast that with us. I doubt if Moser even mentioned the defensive meltdown we had at the end of the first half last night. Wouldn’t want to hurt their feelings.

I also saw a moment late in the first half during a brief stoppage in play where he actually had one of the players stand up while on the bench so he could give him very specific instruction on how to defend a certain play. To be fair, though, Kelvin doesn't kick and flail nearly as well as Moser.

At least be honest.
Of moser did that you would find a way to make it a negative
