No one other than Moser and his supporters thought this would be the year. We were projected as a bubble team by almost every analyst and metric. People liked our portal class but the objective people knew we lacked depth, expected our defense to struggle, and realized we would struggle at the five. I say this every year and get knocked for it, but it’s so obviously true: this board always comically overestimates our depth and overall talent. People buy into the summer reports, which are mainly based on what Moser himself and the staff leak.
We do have two very nice offensive guards. We have a couple guys in Reid and Davis who don’t seem to quite know how to play. They are more talented than most our guys last season, but they are not overly skilled and they won’t be much more athletic than most guys they play in the SEC. And Moser built his freshman class around a guy who obviously was going to have to redshirt, a big who was clearly going to face a massive learning curve, and a baseball player. Dayton is a good player, but JN looks like he is better suited for pickup ball at the Y, and Jadon Jones, if he is actually a real person and ever plays for us, will likely be much like JN: not nearly as good as people expect.
We just lost a game where we shot great, put up 99 points, and had a 16-pt lead. When you shoot like that, you should win comfortably. We already saw what happened when we shoot poorly against Gonzaga.
