GAME 4 - OKLAHOMA (2-1) vs Nebraska (3-0) (Sioux Falls) 6:00pm CST on BIG10NETWORK

I THINK Neb was running zone the one time I watched… we did our usual 5 out… dribble/ hand off.. pass them as the shot clock was going down to a crappy shot… rinse and repeat

Gonna let the season play out. Every time Moser seems like a dead man walking, we go on a win streak. And any time he seems to have turned a corner, we go on a losing streak. I would happily lose every noncon game if we got a winning record in conference play.

If he doesn't make the NCAA tourney, this needs to be the end. I may be completely wrong, but the NIL influx felt like a buyout alternative investment to see if he could make it work.

I absolutely want Moser to make it work, but honestly this past decade has made me quite apathetic about Sooner basketball. As with baseball, one or two good seasons will bring the spark right back, but I just don't have it anymore.

This the best offensive team moser has had. Moser is a good defensive coach. I totally agree we have to get better on defense to be the team we want, but don’t understand why anyone would doubt that moser will get the kids to improve on defense.

I am a long way from down on the team. Hell, the has hardly started. Keep the faith guys

And we can’t deny the mediocracy started under Lon post Buddy. A lot of talent has come through Norman since then under both Lon and Moser. Not much to show for it really. This year is especially tough because it was supposed to be”the year” for Moser.

No doubt. This program under Lon/Moser is barely recognizable compared to the Tubbs/Sampson program I grew up with. The standard has dropped with each successive hire. Mediocrity was officially accepted under Lon and now is on the verge of being celebrated.

No one other than Moser and his supporters thought this would be the year. We were projected as a bubble team by almost every analyst and metric. People liked our portal class but the objective people knew we lacked depth, expected our defense to struggle, and realized we would struggle at the five. I say this every year and get knocked for it, but it’s so obviously true: this board always comically overestimates our depth and overall talent. People buy into the summer reports, which are mainly based on what Moser himself and the staff leak.

We do have two very nice offensive guards. We have a couple guys in Reid and Davis who don’t seem to quite know how to play. They are more talented than most our guys last season, but they are not overly skilled and they won’t be much more athletic than most guys they play in the SEC. And Moser built his freshman class around a guy who obviously was going to have to redshirt, a big who was clearly going to face a massive learning curve, and a baseball player. Dayton is a good player, but JN looks like he is better suited for pickup ball at the Y, and Jadon Jones, if he is actually a real person and ever plays for us, will likely be much like JN: not nearly as good as people expect.

We just lost a game where we shot great, put up 99 points, and had a 16-pt lead. When you shoot like that, you should win comfortably. We already saw what happened when we shoot poorly against Gonzaga.

Hard to argue with any of your points. I agree.

I understand exhibition games don’t mean much. But they aren’t worthless either. It’s not like football where you’re rotating a bunch of guys in. It’s good versus good 90% of the time. Can’t believe this is the same team who beat WI and Tech on pre season.

The Wisconsin game was one thing but we have no idea about Tech. For all we know they played by different rules or used scripted situations like teams often do in those scrimmages.

Pm was prolly playing like a hardo trying to win meaningless games and the other teams were messing around experimenting. Thats my bet

the sport is unrecognizable compared to the tubbs/sampson eras.
it can't be easy starting with a new roster every season.

As poor as we were on defense, if Atak shoots his normal percentage on 3s, we win by a few point. We may take a few lumps before conference, but I think by then, we will be a tough out. Moser hasn't had to coach a bunch of guys making a lot of money before, so that will be new for him. As such, there is a chance he will struggle doing that (i.e. getting them to sell out on defense). We will have to just wait and see on that. I really like the talent on the team though.

And if most our other guys shot their normal percentage, we would have lost by double figures.

Just amazing to me how many new excuses some people will make for poor little Porter. When he doesn't have NIL, how can we expect him to win? When he does have NIL to bring in a good roster, it will be tough for him to get his players to buy in and play defense and compete. Absolutely incredible.

I know it's early, but I honestly think last year's team would beat this year's team at this point in the season. This goes to show you that just because you bring in talent, it doesn't mean that they will play well together, and that your coach knows what to do with them. We will see how it all shapes out here in a few more weeks but right now I'm definitely disappointed. Maybe unlike previous seasons, this team will progressively get better and play their best ball by the end of the year, instead of the opposite.

I'm very pessimistic this year.. imagine what Fred Hoiberg would do with our team instead of his team of insurance salesman

I think you hit it on the head. Moser can talk about athleticism all he wants. But can he coach it?

Porter will manage to win a few conference games this season, and every time it happens, guys like coach and skeeter will resurface to LOL. Then their schedules will conveniently get busy again when we are giving up 100 points or otherwise getting drummed.

I was out of town all weekend so I didn’t get a chance to watch the game until tonight. All I can say is… yikes. What the hell was that??? I’ve seen enough, Moser is just a bad coach. The worst in-game coach I’ve ever seen. If OU in any way cared about basketball they would have canned his ass before the team got on the plane back to Norman. I am so tired of the excuses. Yes we had a lot of roster turnover. Guess what, EVERY team has a lot of roster turnover.

The evidence from Moser’s tenure at Oklahoma points to yet another disappointing season. I guess I would ask what makes you believe this team will get much better defensively?

Teams tend to get better as the year goes on:

Many screamed to play more tougher folks and we did game 2 and 4 and it showed why I don’t like doing that.
I know folks don’t believe in gelling, bonding etc but it’s real. Can’t simulate games in June July Aug. no matter how hard you try.

That’s why I’m fine with cupcake non conference till you can figure it out. With some good ones sprinkled in early.

This is still our most talented roster. Not ready to throw in the towel yet.
