Bad news, OU may have some issues. Good news is some of these fakes are playing themselves out over it. My favorite site, bar none, glad to see some of these folks finally get to their REAL agenda.

Carry on.

I am a fan (and alumnus) of the University of Oklahoma, through Barry's probation, through Bob's probation, through Kelvin's probation and now this.

The degree of hyperbole attached to this matter is beyond pale; death penalty, etc.

I am just enjoying those who on this board "profess" to be fans of OU, and OU Basketball get lathered up over calling for a guy's head over what amounts to less than what happened with Bomargate.

Not sure when or how Jeff Capel pee'd in some cheerios, but the fear of some who profess to be OU fans on here is palpable.

Me, I remember many Sooner fans pointing fingers at Eddie Sutton for what went on under his watch at Kentucky, though I don't think anyone accused him of actually handling the transfer of money (perhaps my memory is letting me down, but I don't think so). I'm not sure what the difference is in the two situations, but I'd be sincerely pleased to have it pointed out to me.

I don't think anyone accused Barry Switzer of changing that back-up QB's transcript (Kerry Jackson, was it?), but we still went on probation and forfeited a bunch of games and Barry took the blame in eyes of the nation.

And I don't think Switzer was accused of being hands-on in the misdeeds that led to our probation in the '80s, but it cost him his job nonetheless and furthered soiled Switzer's reputation.

I think there's room to be angry at Coach Capel and still not be a bad Sooner fan or even be calling for his job. I think it's clear he wasn't careful enough in making his hires when he arrived in Norman, considering the preexisting circumstances he inherited. And that's disappointing, to put it mildly.

And given that it appears one of our coaches was directly involved in this mess with Tiny, I don't see how you can characterize it as being less weighty than Bomargate. I hope that the NCAA views it thus, but I'm not counting on it.

There is a huge difference between this and some of the things "OU fans" have said on here; would you agree?

What you say is 1,000% rational. Glory, Nick Zepp, abd and a few others have jumped the shark on this one.

Merv Johnson was a paid member of the OU athletic department.

And what was his role? News of his involvement eluded me somehow. But if he was as directly involved as Coach O appears to have been, then, as much as I like and respect Merv, he should have been shown the door.

Getting guys summer jobs.

Is that not allowed, if they're legit jobs and the guys actually show up for work? If not, then he should have been fired.

Like Capel fired OT? MJ still collects a check from OU. MJ hooke RB and JQ with jobs at BR.

I'm sorry, but has there ever been any suggestion that Merv Johnson arranged for Rhett Bomar and JD Quinn to work at Big Red Imports because they would not be forced to show up at work despite receiving a paycheck? Getting guys jobs was part and parcel to his job description, and may still be. I really do not see how these situations are analogous at all.

Again, I ask: Is that against the rules? Was every Sooner who ever worked at Big Red a no-show or did some do legitimate work? If the latter, then Merv's clear, as far as I'm concerned (unless there's evidence he knew what RB and JQ were up to).

But if it was known that the jobs at BR were bogus, Merv should have been fired.

And I'm a little tired of seeing people state that OT got fired -- he resigned.

I'm fully aware that he might have been pressured into resigning, but given the circumstances, the heat the program is feeling, and the very questionable actions he appears to have taken, he should have been publicly and summarily fired, for the statement it would have made, if nothing else.

Wish you would give the BB and Jeff Capel the same benefit of the doubt. If OT resigned, maybe NOTHING was wrong after all? Certainly beats the connect the dots nonsense that has been going on in the last couple of days from "OU fans" predicting the death penalty and starting asinine posts, huh?

I don't see how that would make a difference. Everyone knows the statement it made. And I'm sure they pressured him to resign to avoid any potential legal and/or monetary obligations down the road. I mean, I don't know what was in his contract, but that seems like the obvious reason why he wasn't fired. The investigation is still underway.

Kind of like getting recruits was part and parcel of OT's job? An almost $200,000 per year job?

I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the hypocricy...and smoke a fatty.

Benefit of the doubt? There is no need to give Merv Johnson the benefit of the doubt. The investigation is over, complete, finished. Was there every any indication that there was wrongdoing on his part? To my knowledge, I do not think so. This is not giving him the benefit of the doubt. It is acknowledging the outcome of the investigation.

Puff, puff, cover-up. Bigger "connect-the-dots" nonsense posts have been made on this board within the last 24 hours.

Maybe if all the posters of whose reactions you don't approve just lit up, they'd be as unconcerned as you are.

There is a certain irony, though, about a pot smoker pointing fingers at others for daring to be upset about the prospect of our coaches breaking the rules. I guess if one sees no problem with breaking a law, a mere rules infraction seems a relatively minor thing.

(And I say that as someone who supports legalization.)
