Gotleib on Cezar Guererro

That's like saying Rickey Grace had an NBA career or someone like that. Or that Willie Warren had an NBA career so they were both better than Hollis Price. It just doesn't really work that way. NBA is about being an athlete or having connections. If John Lucas didn't have a dad that played in the NBA he probably would have never played a game in the NBA.

Which one of these 2 did Stockton, Magic, Bird, Scalabrine,Dampier, Derek Fisher, Danny Ferry, Laetner, and thousands of others have???

You guys make some crazy generalizations. You must be able to play in order to make the NBA. It shows that many Oklahoma fans didn't start watching NBA hoops until the Thunder arrived.

Bottom line: Lucas and Hollis were both better 2's than 1's. Both were good shooters, but not great ball handlers. Both were small, and fast, but not John Wall fast. Lucas a bit better ball handler than Hollis. Lucas got looks from teams that needed his skill set more than Hollis did. Same with Ace McGhee.

To say that someone would be a better NBA player based on what they do/did in college isn't accurate al of the time. I loved HP and he will always be one of my faves, but Lucas fit a PG role just a bit better than HP.

Read your first line and then your last one. Kind of contradicting.

True. But the point is, there are plenty of people that can play, that don't make the NBA. It's not like, at any given time, all the best basketball players in the world are in the NBA.

Again, fair enough, but the opposite is true to. Just b/c a player makes it to the NBA, doesn't mean they were a better player than somebody that didn't. And it definitely doesn't mean they were a better college player than somebody that didn't.

Not really. Did you log into OUinsider last yr during the Thunder vs Lakers series??? Have you listened to local radio lately??? I hear 100's of Oklahoma/Oklahoma St fans who start off a statement by saying: I never liked the NBA until the Thunder arrived.... I never watched the NBA until OKC got a team.....

Heck, there are more than a few posters here who regularly say how much they despise the NBA. Just look at some of the NBA comments, and you will know that many here have not followed. Soooooo, no don't find anything contradictory about what I said.

I still have not seen 1 os-who fan say that Lucas was better.... I have seen Sooner fans wanting to get mad at the pokes, but this time it isn't merited.

Heck the same argument that we both made could be made about the NFL, MLB, NHL, etc...

To say that Lucas got a chance just because of his dad, and HP didn't because of lack of connections is just not accurate, IMO. NBA scouts wanted HP to become a PG. They wanted him to improve his handles, and run an offense. HP was more comfortable as a 2, so he took his game overseas. Lucas played PG for most of his career, and he was just more comfortable there, IMO...

So on topic, I guess if Guerrero comes in to whatever school and averages 15.3 and 6.1, he'll be an ideal PG.

Not sure if serious, but... yeah...I would be ecstatic if OSU had a point guard with that kind of a stat line.

Brooks Thompson came very close to that line his senior year: 16.9 ppg, 5.7 assists/game.

I would take another Brooks Thompson in a second.

Exactly you don't need a ton of NBA talent to win in college basketball. OU had back to back seasons with about 60 wins and 2 Deep runs in the 2000s. And didn't have a single guy make an NBA roster. Now saying that team didn't have talent is ridiculous. But even for some of the mid 80s teams with Choo Kennedy, David Johnson, Tim McAlister before Blaylock, King, and Grant came in and were big time players, but not NBA players. Of course the later 80s teams with Grant, King, Blaylock all making the NBA playing a bunch of years too.

Once again you guys lost me..... Who said that you need tons of NBA talent to win in college??? My entire comment was based on you Nick, saying that you need connections/ or great athleticism to play in the NBA, and that isn't an accurate assessment of numerous NBA players. NBA owners who never win aren't NBA owners for very long. Fans lose interest, teams leave the city, etc....

MOST owners are worried about their financial investments, which means relationships be darned, they are trying to build a winning team. It amazes me how posters bash the NBA, but love the NFL/MLB, when the leagues have more in common than they do differences, including preferential treatment for stars, home field advantages from refs/umps, etc.... Big money sports have always been that way.
