Gut feeling only- HC

I think it's a 6 year 18m total, so 3m a year average.

Rumor is Loyola is offering like an 8 or 10 year deal at 2m a year, and with his family being from Chicago, and the fact that ND is his dream school that could open soon, he might stay a few more years for family before getting the ND job.

I hope that is the number. Anything less, to me, sends a bad message about our commitment to basketball. Even at $3MM, that is still only ranked 8th in the conference.

But I get it, it's a starting point for a coach from a mid major currently making $1.2MM a year.

It was reported that Loyola countered with a 10 year deal at $2MM, which tells me OU's offer is a little higher for Loyola to go 10 years. I would hope it would be in the $3MM range, but I am not sure Loyola's offer would be competitive, even at 10 years vs. 6 years, for a $1MM a year difference.

As it stands today, Webber is the lowest-paid coach in the Big XII at $2.7MM. Prohm was $2.4.

My guess is this is just typical negotiation stuff. He'll accept or he'll ask for a longer deal, and Joe will move on.

I find it a little interesting no other national reporter has confirmed Adam Zagoria's scoop. Katz, Norlander, Goodman, etc. haven't tweeted a thing about it yet. This could just be posturing from Moser's agent to get a better long term deal from Loyola.

I think I'd rather have McCasland, so Porter, stay with your family and wait for ND.

Sounds like even if OU were to land him, if ND opens up in a year or two, he could bounce.

But overall, just YUCK if these two are our best options.

Best coach now. Deal with the future as it comes

I wonder if Moser has reached out to fellow Loyola staffer (professor) Dave Sieger about living in Norman and OU?

Sieger should take one for the team and tell him to take it. LOL

EDIT: Sieger is a professor at U Illinois-Chicago (UIC).

Not Kellen, higher experience and profile please. Enough coaches sons in the program.

He has a kid at Loyola and another at Loyola Academy (High School). Frankly, Norman doesn't offer a Loyola Academy experience for high school. Actually, there's really not one in the OKC area. That could be a major sticking point.

Just another reason Tulsa > OKC.

FWIW, Joe C. sent his kids to Mt. St. Mary in south OKC, IIRC. I know his son that was a walkon in FB went there.

But to your point, Mt. St. Mary and Bishop McGuinness are Catholic schools, but are probably a different experience from Loyola Academy in Chicago.

Yes. And this coming from a dad of a kid who wanted no part of Loyola Academy. But Loyola Academy is the size of the large OKC area schools with all they can offer with a Catholic education. That's just a different experience than what's available in the OKC area. In fact, academically, it's closer to a Heritage Hall or Casady but the size of the Norman public high schools.

It could be a major sticking point for him, but why leak anything to the press?
The longer this drags on without a decision, it sounds like he's just wanting something more from Loyola's administration.

It doesn't make sense for Joe C. to leak to the press that he's made an offer, and that person is weighing it and could end up turning it down. From all the past coaching hires at OU, things are pretty tight lipped until its formally announced. I remember Joe C. had to go to Lon twice to get him to come to OU, I don't remember knowing about the first meeting until well after he was officially hired.

It took three times of Joe going to Lon before he accepted. Which means there were two times we didn't know about. I agree, Joe C. normally plays things pretty close to the vest, and wouldn't let an offer like this get public unless he was pretty sure it'd be accepted.

Perhaps moser leaked it then.. idk

I can't think of any recent P5 conference programes hiring an assistant coach with no HC experience that wasn't already on staff. Am I overlooking a lot of success stories? Honest question.
