Gut feeling only- HC

It took three times of Joe going to Lon before he accepted. Which means there were two times we didn't know about. I agree, Joe C. normally plays things pretty close to the vest, and wouldn't let an offer like this get public unless he was pretty sure it'd be accepted.

Agreed. I'm extremely confident this story isn't coming from Castiglione. The question is -- did it come from Loyola or Moser's camp? Or is it completely made up?

Perhaps moser leaked it then.. idk

Joe C isn't going to leak the length of a contract.

This is typical Agent leak. Whether it's posturing for a bigger $ from OU (could be), or leaking so UNC and others can get in touch ASAP, or truly genuine not knowing what he wants to do.

Quality of schools notwithstanding, my question would be: who the heck wants to live and raise their family in the crime-ridden Chicago area?

Me. Thanks for asking.

In fact, I'm in the middle of this "really scary" city. Very close to Loyola.

Also, in fact, I'm not even considering moving back to OKC until both of my kids are out of high school. The opportunities for my kids in this "crime-ridden" city are too great.

If the rumor is true and Moser was offered a multi-year deal worth 3 mil and he’s still on the fence, he’s obviously not sold on being OU’s coach.

I feel the same way about our coach as I do about our players. Time to move on!

To each his own.

And just to be clear, I'm not considering moving back to OKC either.

I think we need to be fair to the guy. Like any major life decision, it’s something that you need to think about and talk over with your family. Sure, from a basketball and financial standpoint, it seems like an easy choice, but moving your family isn’t as easy as deciding what to order at the drive thru. I’d rather have a guy take a few hours or even a day or two to decide than jump the gun and have second thoughts. We don’t even know when exactly the offer was made.

Per capita, Tulsa has a higher violent crime rate.

I can't think of any recent P5 conference programes hiring an assistant coach with no HC experience that wasn't already on staff. Am I overlooking a lot of success stories? Honest question.
Fred Hoiberg?

Not comparing Kellen's resume, but what about Kellen Ollie, Juwan Howard, Jerry Stackhouse, and others like Ewing and Hardaway. Common thread of course is their NBA experience.

A guy like Mike Boynton might be the closest for a non-player. He was on staff only for a year.

That's fair, but just do that without having your agent leak it to the media.

Not that this thread is about crime, but I have to defend my city a bit. This statement is not true.

Tulsa is close to Chicago in total violent crime rate, but still 2-3 spots less per capita. And seeing the details is important. Most of Tulsa's numbers come from rape and aggravated assault/domestic. Chicago is much higher on murder and armed robbery.

Non-violent crime rates per capita, which is the type of crime that 99% of us will be a victim of if we are a victim of crime, Tulsa is 36 places lower than Chicago and 26 places lower than OKC. And to further this, as in a lot of cities, the overwhelming majority of violent crime in Tulsa occurs in 2-3 small geographic areas of the city.

Back to the topic at hand, as someone that has Chicago as one of my top 3 destinations to go to in the US, I can understand Moser's hesitancy to leave, especially since he has spent the majority of his life in Illinois or the surrounding area.

If he is our guy for more than just a few years, I would rather him take his time and be sure than avoid a Dana Altman-Arkansas moment.

I know changing schools is a big deal but I hope Moser isn't using OU as a bargaining tool. If Joe senses this, hope he cuts bait soon. Move to the next guy who wants to be here and get it done..

Yeah, Chicago, outside of a few REALLY bad pockets, is pretty much the same as any other major city. Don't get me wrong, the city has a lot of problems to solve, but the area that Loyola is in is not crime-ridden. And Porter Moser lives in Wilmette, which again, nothing in Oklahoma resembles.

I don't think it is. I think it's hard to decide with family in high school and at Loyola. Timing isn't perfect, but he knows he might not get another chance. He's going to likely talk it over with the family

I don’t know. Regardless of your salary, how much thinking over would you (or most people) have to do if someone offered to triple your salary for doing essentially the same job responsibilities? Assuming there is an offer, he better decide very quickly or the decision will be made for him.

Me personally, my families happiness (with two boys heavily involved in sports in a small community, with good schools, and surrounded by other family members) would carry a tremendous amount of weight in my decision

Joe had this problem with Gene Stephenson. It led to Sunny Golloway which was controversial regime at best.
