Re: Hield Drops A 16-12 In Bahamas Win At FIBA Americas >>> 247sports.com

I had never heard Buddy's given first name before:

Tepic, Mexico – The national team of Bahamas responded to their first loss yesterday by beating El Salvador 96-47 on the second day of the Centrobasket.

Top scorers for Bahamas were Alonzo Hinds and Chavano Hield, with 20 and 16 points respectively, while in El Salvador was James Valladares with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Bahamas currently has a 1-1 record while El Salvador has a record of 0-1. Bahamas tomorrow will face the host team, Mexico, while El Salvador plays against Puerto Rico.

"Hield made 6-of-15 shots from the field — he missed all six three-point attempts — and 4-of-5 free throws to finish with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes."

Another game in which he didn't shoot very well, alas.

If he would have been hitting from 3 that would have been quite the game.

Not good for a player who reportedly plans to jump to the NBA after his junior season. I have no doubt that Buddy has the tools to do it. But he will have to shoot a high percentage from the perimeter this year to impress NBA scouts. I also think he will need to improve his defense to be successful at the next level. I truly hope he does just that for his sake and for the future success of this year's OU team. We need Buddy to be consistently good,

He shot 45% from 2 point range, 38% from three, and 43% overall.

Over 80% from FT line.

We need to stop with the Buddy to the NBA after this year talk. Anyone who thinks he will be nba ready is just looking through crimson colored glasses. If it's just his plans and that's his goal, so be it. He should have goals and expectations. But I sure hope he is getting good advice because he is and will not be ready. He is an above average college player right now that doesn't do anything exceptional. I do not mean to be overly negative as I love Buddy on my team.

Sorry but it is a great possibility. Doesn't mean another year of college wouldn't do him good but the potential is there and teams draft a lot on potential. He will likely get a 1st round grade whether he is really ready or not

He is on the cusp of being a highly drafted player. He wasn't invited to KD's and Lebron's camps because he wasn't a top tier guy. He was mentioned as performing good during camps as well. Personally, I hope it pans out and he goes high in the draft. Then Kruger and company and sell to kids they can even take three star players and develop them into 1st round draft picks. That sells to any recruit.

Re: Hield Drops A 16-12 In Bahamas Win At FIBA Americas >>> 247sports.com

I don't even think a 4th year of college would do him much good. NBA teams tend to grow sour on you the longer you play college ball. More tape to find holes in your game.

Staying a 4th year isn't going to help his draft stock or anything else. Either he's an NBA prospect or he isn't, and he can head over seas easily enough with 3 or 4 years of college ball.

Obviously if he enjoys OU and college ball and wants to make tournmanet runs, staying would be great, but in terms of a professional career it's not going to be a big deal. By the end of his junior year, he is what he is.

No, he shot 66% from 2-point range, 0% from three, 40% overall and exactly 80% from the line.

Unless you're posting his combined stats for the tourney.

Those were his combined shooting percentages for the 4 games.

Total FG% 43%
3-pt. FG% 38%
FT% 74%
RPG 6.0
APG 1.8
SPG 1.8
BPG 0.5
Assist to TO ratio 1.0
PPG 19.8

The Bahamas went 1-3 in the competition. Buddy was the only consistent scorer for them and appeared to be their best player overall. I don't think Buddy had a lot of help. Those stats don't look too bad to me, all things considered.

Agree. Would have liked more consistency, but when the other team can load up on Buddy on the perimeter and pack it in, then he's in a tough position.

If Buddy is our best scorer/shooter this season, the teams we play will game plan to keep him from getting open shots. It's rare to have so many good scorers/shooters that defenses can't double up on someone. I can't think of the last time we had that luxury.

The key word I used in my post above is consistency. No doubt in my mind that Buddy has the goods to play in the NBA someday. Will that be after his junior year? Depends on the season he has.

It should be noted that he scored 30 points in the first FIBA game and shot a high percentage from the floor and from three point range. He also had one game where he scored in single digits, and another where he was ofer from behind the arc. That's what I meant by being consistent.

Hopefully OU's other players will really hurt teams that concentrate on Buddy too much. OU should have four good three point shooters in Cousins, Hield, Woodard and Booker. Those guys are ranked in order of three point shooting percentage from last year with Booker being the lowest at 36.8%. Spangler proved to be solid shooter even though he doesn't necessarily have great three point range. If Spangler gets some help in the paint, I think he outside shooting will improve because he will have more legs in his shot both late in the game and late in the season.

I wish the NCAA would rule on Thomas. I am really excited for this season.

Actually, he scored 30, 16, 17 and 16 in the 4 games for his 19.8 average.
