I have to ask it...How excited is Capel about the talk of the new conferences? I mean this is totally drawing the attention away from his bad year and loosing everyone...Capel has to be thrilled that the attention is elsewere for the time being.

I forgot that we were about to be placed on probation again for 5 years, lose scholarships, and receive some post-season bans because of all this.

I doubt we get hit that hard.

Why? It's probably pretty close. Probably around 5 years of limitations, 2 years or losing one schollie and maybe one post-season ban. I think that may be in the realm but who really knows. Not because of how bad these violations were but the fact OU was still on probation.

I dunno I still doubt we get hit that hard...if we do im not sure how anyone can justify keeping capel. I didnt think the situation was that serious, I mean just 3k...but if it is he needs to go I mean dang...

The bad part was OU was still on probation from before. That is why they would get hit the hardest.

that's why I am so pissed about it. Not because of the increased sanctions (although that will obviously be something horrid) but because we were already on #$#$@%@ probation.

We had JUST ALMOST gotten past the last round of crap (?? yeah poor grammar??)...and someone/a few couldn't put two and two together that doing questionable things was BAD, VERBOTTEN etc...

I hear ya man.

Bigabd and Cheno care to wager on your probation thoughts that you guys have stated above. You guys crack me up! BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

Trust me when you screw up a good program like Capel has ours no one has forgotten.

Me too. I'm not sure the severity of the infractions either since the results of the investigation havent come out. If the loan really was repaid then what's the problem?

Agreed. Seems to me that it would be prudent to learn whether any NCAA rules were broken before we start handing out penalties.

I've asked this exact question on several occasions, and have generally not gotten a response.

I think it all hinge around Taliaferro. If he knew about it, OU is in trouble, if not, they're likely not. My understanding is this all happened before he even chose a school, much less before he steppe foot at OU. IF it was paid back too before he got to OU, then I don't see OU getting in much trouble.

Actually I think that if the dates we have heard previously are accurate, it occurred AFTER he signed his LOI, therefore it wasn't an "inducement" and (1) it wasn't money that came from OU or an OU booster, and (2) it was a loan that came from a financial institution in the business of making loans. According to Tiny, the loan was paid back by his mother in what amounts to a private business transaction that the NCAA neither regulates nor has access to. Want to speculate why Tailiferro was on the horn to this Hausinger guy so much, probably wanted to know when the loan was going to be made so Tiny could get his transcript. Is that an impermissible contact?

Long story short (lol), can someone please point me to the rule that was allegedly broken based on what we know to date.

Based on what we KNOW to date, no rule was broken. Now the problem is, if this was legit, then why:

A. Did Tailiferro "resign"?
B. Did Tiny Leave when even he knew he wasn't ready?
C. has there been no word or resolution yet?

That's what is fueling the speculation that rules were broken. I have not read the NCAA handbook so I don't know if a rule was broken, and I don't know if the NCAA will make up the rules as they go. All I can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst

I sure hope that you are correct. Your explaination would result in little (or nothing) happening to our program in the way of discipline.

I tend to somewhat agree with you as one of my best contacts, though vague, pretty well reassured me that nothing bad was going to happen to the OU basketball program.

Bottom line, OU (Joe C) has had his nose into this matter for a long time now, and if he had smelled something fishy (like blantant cheating), I bet Coach Capel would have been fired. The fact that nothing of the sort has happened and that Coach Capel is still coaching the 18 and under team really lends support to those that think that very little will happen to our program, and that we in fact may have done very little (or nothing) wrong here.

I certainly hope that that is the case. You know, its funny to me to see the number of "fans" that almost seem like they WANT the program to go down with this deal. I can understand KU fans and OSU fans, but OU fans? Strange. At least we don't have to hear SoonerFanTU smiling and laughing through his keyboard on here anymore.

The only thing I'm going by is what we know to date, as most realize, there are often things that "look" really bad...but may not be a violation of a law or rule. Maybe it is just because I deal with the "gray area" just about every day, things aren't as cut an dry anymore. I mean, if it is an issue with a representative of the University helping a student athlete procure a loan that has to be paid back, then EVERY university in the country is going to have issues because rest assured, they are helping kids get grants and loans all the time.

As far as the second statement, it is completely bizarre to me as well. With any coach, there are going to be some who just won't like them [seriously, we have posters on here who were adamant that Stoops should be fired], then there are others who will let the piss-poor results of last season cloud their judgment. Capel is young, active and seemingly well respected throughout the coaching community. He had one bad year and he has admitted as such over and over again. Like you say, I expect fans from other schools to look to find problems, real or imagined, but for OU fans seem to really want to find them as well (without pointing to the exact rule that was violated).
