How would you grade Capel's recruiting as of today?

BASED ON THIS YEARS CLASS, with consideration given to players leaving, timing, team needs, etc.

The class includes:

  • Nick Thompson (juco post)
  • CJ Washington (juco post)
  • Calvin Newell (point guard with offers from WVU, Florida, and OU)
  • Carl Blair (d-1 transfer who averaged 9 points, 4 rebounds, and had 112 assists as a freshman at UNO last year)
  • TJ Taylor (top 100 player, combo guard)
  • Cameron Clark (top 30 player, small forward)
  • Tyler Neal (Oklahoma basketball player of the year, combo forward)

Feel free to discuss and not just vote.

I am going to give him a B. I would feel better if he got Marquise Carter, Jawanza Poland, and Aziz Ndaiye but I feel pretty good about the guys he got. He did a terrific job getting point guards. Experienced D-1 player and one of the better high school point guards not yet committed.

I have no idea...i do think he took care of our needs at the PG position and i like bringing in a couple of Juco inside players...

He really didnt know what his needs were till late in the game so i think he did a nice job of patching this thing together...

Just as i've said many times before though, i really want to see these guys on the court before i start proclaiming them as a nice recruiting class...i've learned my lesson over the past couple of years...

I really don't know what grade to give because I don't know much of all about any of them other than Clark and Taylor. But those too are good gets so I'm thinking a B but who knows.

I gave him a C because we have no option at the 5.. Capel had no back up plan for n'daiye and there's no excuse to not have a plan B.. Other than that I think this class could be good.. But every year we get excited about earlys, cannons, and allens.. So ask me in two years.. Heck 1 year..

I went with B-, mainly because I feel like we had to settle for the guys we got in the post.

n'daiye was plan b...maybe he should have had a plan c...remember we had Tiny and during the season before everything blew up hardly anyone would have predicted him to leave...

We are sitting pretty right now with Tiny in the lineup, our bigs we signed and Fitz returning...

Why is Calvin Newell included in this list? He's not commited to OU. anyone know when he plans to decide?

There is a report that he committed earlier today. That is why he is being included.

True, but outside of Keith we still had no other posts still so it was a need anyways so n'diaye was not plan B, he was a priority

Based on the predicament the program is in right now and based on all the misses he has recruited thus far to Norman, I gave him a C-.

Too many missed recruits to give any higher than that. Based on past seasons, I'd expect at least 2 and possibly 3 of the 7 commits to not be here this time next year or the year after. I hope this isn't the case, but this is the trend the program has been on for the past 4 years and until it stops you have to assume it's going to continue.

That being said, I don't follow recruiting much (for any sport), but from what I've read and seen (videos), I like this class. Appears we got some players who want to leave it all on the court, and I hope that's the case. In 3 years, we may look back and say this was Capel's best class if they all stick around and contribute as we hope.

OU, and most other schools for that matter, Historically don't have a true 5. True centers are very rare.

I gave him an A- because of his ability to make things happen when everyone else thought he wouldn't be able to get any players in. I don't know how good the players coming in are, but I'm going to assume they can play in the Big 12 or Capel wouldn't be bringing them in.

C+

OU doesn't have a true Center, but they signed two stout recruits in the first signing period and several mid major recruits in the late period that could develop into solid prospects.

That's a C+.

I gave him a B. The class was a top 25 class, I believe according to Rivals, before the last 4 joined who definitely filled last minute needs and were among the best options available at the time.

I think of C being average and think an above average job was done here. Now had Carter, Ross, and/or Jones been on the list my grade would have went up.

Solid C. Cam Clark and T.J. Taylor are going to be great players for us, but the other guys don't impress me.

Calvin Newell - Offers from OU and Niagara
C.J. Washington - Offers from OU, Murray State, and Oral Roberts
Nick Thompson - 2* JUCO big man with offers from OU, New Mexico, and Colorado State.

New Mexico is the only halfway decent program on that list. Yes, I know Murray State beat Vanderbilt this year, but that was a once in a lifetime event for that program. Capel did a good job of plugging some holes, but these aren't Big XII basketball players.

How can you grade players you've never seen play in an OU uniform before?
