How would you grade Capel's recruiting as of today?

Grade Capel's recruiting considering circumstances this year.

Solid C. Cam Clark and T.J. Taylor are going to be great players for us, but the other guys don't impress me.

Calvin Newell - Offers from OU and Niagara
C.J. Washington - Offers from OU, Murray State, and Oral Roberts
Nick Thompson - 2* JUCO big man with offers from OU, New Mexico, and Colorado State.

New Mexico is the only halfway decent program on that list. Yes, I know Murray State beat Vanderbilt this year, but that was a once in a lifetime event for that program. Capel did a good job of plugging some holes, but these aren't Big XII basketball players.

As I understand it, Baylor and Florida should go on Newell's list.

I gave him a B. Nice work considering the circumstances. He has a roster to work with. These guys hopefully will play as a team, maximize their talent, and play some damn team/help defense.

I don't care what the record is for next year. If they do the above, I'll watch every damn game and root for them till I can't talk.

I say a B too. I"m far more interested in how they play and whether they stay around. That has been Jeff's problem.

I went with B-, mainly because I feel like we had to settle for the guys we got in the post.

+ 1

I have not been so kind to Coach Capel of late, so I will take some crow now - let's see medium rare please with alot of ketchup!. Things are looking up - hope these kids make all of us prOUd!

The hope is that most of the class will immediately give minutes. I expect minutes from everyone except Neal. They need a center in a bad way.

to pump his post total

Or pump something.

Guess what, Nick Zepp thinks that you cannot judge a recruit until he plays for the school that signed him, yet in a thread dedicated to NOT doing that, he chimes in.

we had a top 25 class in america with just the 3 high school kids ... now we have a top 20 class ...

hard to have any grade lower than a B++

lol :woot

I gave him an A- because he signed two really highly rated players early and has probably done about as well as could be expected in the late period given the circumstances. If he were to land Jones I would give him an A.

I think Coach has probably learned a lot from this year. He couldn't recruit the type of players to VCU that he can at OU and I'll bet he was just excited to get those types of players without so much regard to character issues or whether or not they would be team players. He probably had more talent this year thatn he ever did at VCU but this was probably the worst "team" he has ever coached. I know you can lay some of the blame at the coach's feet but I feel most of that blame comes in the form of evaluating character and whether or not someone is a team player. I don't think the blame lies so much in how he coached them. I think he tried really hard to get through to (some of) these kids but they wouldn't listen. You can make the arguement that coach so-and-so would have been able to get these kids to play as a team and play defense and such but we'll never know. Look at what UNC went through this year. Maybe no coach would have gotten this team into the NCAA's this year.

BTW, I was shocked to see that Inosoonerfan gave him a D.

Yeah, I figured that wasn't even worth mentioning. Way to go hoops. ;)

Capel said that he wouldnt take "bodies". I feel these guys can come in and Play right away. We all know that there is going to be a learning curve. It's that way with every JUCO and Frosh.
