If I bow up at the cops, I get my ass thrown in jail. Same should apply to Peterson.

From what I read though, he didn't bow up to the cops. He was leaving and a cop jumped on his back! Also, the cop in question was an off-duty cop in plain clothes.

Agreed.

The article I read says the security guy told AD and his group of friends to leave. The security guard made rounds, asking others to leave, and when he got back to AD's group, they hadn't moved. Security says something to AD, and AD acts like a punk, assuming an aggressive posture.

The simple fact that it took three cops (or security) to get AD cuffed and under control speaks pretty loudly as to how AD was acting.

thats a load of crap. I dont believe it for a second. He's a solid citizen for 20+ years now all of the sudden he's a punk?

NOPE. I don't buy it one bit. He gets the BOD because of his excellent prior behavior.

I believe he was arrested for being a black man with money. Thats a pretty common arrest strategy in Houston. He didn't step and fetch quick enough for them, they went on a PD power trip, he didn't bow down, and they arrested him.

I hope he has their badges.

not the first or last time a drunk idiot gets arrested at 3 am. no big deal.

I agree with this, and there is word that the incident is on tape.
He simply asked to grab a drink of water before he left and the cops got all butthurt. That's a far cry from being a "drunk idiot". He has been a model citizen his whole life and this incident reeks to high heaven.

I agree with coolm on this one. This story and the actions the off duty police officer/club bouncer took did not lead me to believe that he was the victim.

The account in this morning's Oklahoman goes into more detail. Read it and I think you'll see that the entire incident could have been avoided if the officer, who was basically a club employee at the time, had used more diplomacy instead of trying to demonstrate his authority. Peterson wanted to get a drink of water first. The officer refused, said he was pushed and tried to put his handcuffs on AD. What's next, his freaking gun?

I'm sure there is more to this story than we know. But the account I read does not pass the smell test. I'm surprised the off duty cop didn't make sure his name was in bold print in this article. Or, maybe he knew he was in the wrong and didn't want everyone to know he handled the situation poorly.

And, as coolm said, it doesn't make sense that a young man with an impeccable reputation would be involved in an incident like this without provocation. I find it hard to belive that AD was the instigator. I have a high regard for police officers. But I believe we all know that there are a few "cowboys" out there who try to prove how tough they are, and in doing so give the rest a bad name.

Well said, and I still am wondering how you get arrested for resisting arrest if you weren't being arrested for something to start with. Was the off-duty officer going to arrest him for not obeying quickly enough? Ridiculous. I guess you can get arrested now for "assuming an aggressive posture". Would this have happened to Tom Brady?

not to mention the fact that pro football players historically have received some shoddy treatment from Houston popo.

you get a kid like AD who is a STAR in the NFL and everyone is just itching to nail him on something since he's so squeaky clean. to me that's just BS. people are looking for a payday or their 15 minutes at his expense. I won't give them an iota of support.

BTW - I'd be saying the same thing if he didn't come from OU as long as his name wasn't Tebow.

LOL

I bet that officer didn't even know who he was. There are a TON of pro athletes, that if I saw them in street close, in a situation like that, I wouldn't even know they played professionally.

Everyone in the club knew who he was. Don't be silly. AD is one of the most high profile athletes in America.

My first thought was, "nothing good happens after 2:00 a.m. at a night club."

But, since AD's wife was with him, this was not the typical pro athlete out partying late with his buddies. The scene painted in the Oklahoman has all of the makings of an overzealous off-duty cop trying to throw his weight around.

I have my doubts if any charges will be filled, and for good reason. The Houston PD will be lucky to escape with an apology to AD, his wife and friends. It's not like there weren't witnesses to what took place.

This isn't the first time AD has got into some trouble. Remember Denny's?
It was closing time and he was asked to leave. Leave. It isn't hard. Maybe a bogus charge ( I don't know) but all he had to do was leave when asked/told.

LOL. The way you talk about Thunder and OU players, I have NO doubt you'd have been right next to him, asking for an autograph. :clap

That said, if Renoldo(sp), Ray Rice, or Mark Texiera were standing right next to me, I wouldn't be able to tell you who they were. And those are three of the better players in their respective sports.

Ever think the security guard might not even be a sports fan?

Ada is right, we'll likely get to the bottom of this from video or eye witness accounts. But I wouldn't take a "no charge" as meaning AD was innocent. It just means pressing charges isn't worth it. My guess is that is what happens, but I doubt you'll see that officer suspended, or issuing any apologies.

That's how I see it too. It isn't like the office told him to empty his pockets, hop on one foot, and to quit pro football. An officer asking you to leave is a pretty normal thing. I kind of thought he had a past incident, but couldn't remember what it was.

If Peterson was smart he would come right out and apologize for not immediately obeying the officer, make a nice donation to a police organization and the entire thing would go away.

At 3 am these officers are used to dealing with drunks and trouble makers. Having to be asked twice to leave then Being a smartass saying "I heard you the first time" was a mistake. Not a big deal. He more than paid the price getting hauled in. The punishment already fit the crime.

This is Adrian freaking Peterson we're talking about, he was in Texas, his home state where football is king. Do you think that if Renoldo walked into a club in Lisbon that people might take notice? Get real. And Ada and Coolm are correct, this reeks of an idiot off-duty cop with a god complex.

There's a Denny's somewhere that closes? Weird.

I found a "story" (from some clownish blog) about the incident at Denny's. Apparently a fight broke out there. There was minor damage, nobody was seriously injured and no charges were filed. Apparently AD was present and may have been involved in the fight. I would post the link here, but I hate to give that idiot blog the web traffic and the comments will make your skin crawl.
