IF we were to need a new head coach then here's my pick

While I am never against giving qualified assistants a chance to take the next step, I'm not sure that the state of this program is one to have an assistant cut his head coaching teeth at right now. I'm sure a lot of people felt the same way when Stoops was hired though, and that has worked out pretty well for us.

I tend to agree. The mess we're in now calls for a seasoned veteran with a solid background of success to get us on the right track again. I'm not saying an assistant like Mark Montgomery or a young coach at a lesser program couldn't handle the job. It's just that we can't afford to take another chance on someone who has not proven themselves as a head coach at a major D-1 program.

the only way a seasond veteran takes this jod in its current state is if he is trying to overcome his own obstacles... i.e. gillespie, or some other coach thats been out of the game for a while or has been languishing in a small school for the last several years... no established name guy would take this job right now... if capel leaves, we have a handful of players on campus and no prospects coming in(i dnt see taylor and clark staying in this scenario), we'll be lucky to have 8 guys for practice...

even major and some mid-major programs on solid ground don't normally go the asst. coach route. it's not as trendy as it is in college football, the nba or nfl. don't know why, just something i don't see too often. if your an assistant coach and go to the super bowl, you are a hot commodity. assistant coach and your team goes to the final four, nothing.

He coaches under the best coach in college basketball. He looks interesting and certaily worth interviewing - if a vacancy does come open.

The head coach fetish is overly restrictive and not much in line with our willingness to pay the basketball coach.

If you want a coach...and i've said this before...coach evans at uco. Ou player, tubbs and sampson background, and a winner at every level...thats as a player and as a coach.

Why not bring in a guy who can recruit, coach and would be loyal to sooner nation.

I would be happy with Montgomery or Mike Garland (another asst on the MSU staff)....even though he wasn't real successful at Cleveland State......that doesn't mean much to me.....it was a bad situation for him...he had a bunch of injuries to deal with his 3rd season, which should have been the year he started to turn things around and then the AD backstabbed him to hire the head coach there now after telling Garland's staff they were safe.

The guy knows what he is doing and spent a brief stint as the associate head coach at SMU also...so he does have some experience recruiting in Texas.

Just like the mess we were in with Blake in football, we needed "a seasoned veteran with a solid background of success to get us on the right track again"

Or not.

and if not Mark...then I vote for Fred Garvin.

Why not Ray McCallums dad at Detriot he has head coachng experience and OU connection. PLus a big PLus his son would follow and likely his buddy Ziegler too
