As if Self getting schooled by an upstart coach wasn't enough, the story of the game was KU's abysmal shooting from the field and the free throw line.

35.5% (22 of 62) from the field
9.1% (2 of 22) from three
53.6% (15 of 28) from the free throw line

if you tell KU fans that then all we will hear will be "it was just an off shooting game that caused us to lose..."

Honestly though, that is why they lost. TOs were even, they beat VCU on the boards, fouls were equal.

KU just didn't shoot the ball well, that's it. Self needed to sit Reed/Morningstar when they couldn't get it going. Selby wasn't putting the world on fire, but at least give him more burn than that.

those shots aren't taken in a vacuum. VCU gets credit for helping in that crappy shooting...ft numbers aside.

No doubt, VCU sped up the pace which effected KU. However, 2-22 from beyond the arc is just flat out missing open jumpers. Reed had 3-4 within a five minute span where there wasn't anybody within 10 feet of him.

But that has been my knock on KU all year, who is going to hit shots for them if Morningdouche/Reed are not hitting? Just another example of backcourt play being the reason you advance in the tournament.

They didn't scrap for loose balls, VCU was tougher, and Kansas couldn't hit shots because they couldn't handle the moment. Their buttholes were so tight cuz they were afraid.

those are good points. I won't dismiss that. It just seems at some point after limiting backcourts from USC, G'Town, Purdue, FSU, and now KU that someone might say "Hey...VCU plays some pretty good defense".

VCU puts you on your heels, no question.

Perfect image of how this game went, 3 on 1 break with Tyshawn leading, he flips to Reed who goes up for the lay-up and receives a foul on minimal contact. Instead of finishing the play strong by making the basket, he misses then only makes 1-2 free throws.

KU didn't make shots, they had opportunities but didn't come through.
