Leaves Kansas and goes to Oklahoma State to be an almost non factor, get run at home against KU in front of an empty crowd and can’t go to the big dance. Interesting. The last 2 minutes of the game was some of the ugliest basketball I’ve ever seen and he couldn’t even get on the floor.

Boyton is one heckuva recruiter! Ha

Boyton gets my vote for the “best emotional interview by a head coach” this year, but I’m not impressed with his coaching. Kalib Boone looked like a future star in the making last year. He played 9 minutes, logged 2 points and not a single rebound in last night’s game. If Thompson is supposed to be the best player on OSU’s roster, why is he not starting?

Has Boyton lost this team? Will BT spend his final two seasons at another school?

Post-season ban hurts, but a really good coach will put a "let's show them how good you are" chip on the team's shoulder. They look uninspired.

Athletic like crazy, but undisciplined and unmotivated.

And they had terrible attendance last night, considering they were playing a Top 10 team (one they've managed to beat fairly often at GIA). I'm sure Covid's impacting the crowds to a degree, but there were thousands of empty seats.

I have led the band that hes a HUGELY overrated coach. Dude has done nothing but hire a player's brother..

Hes won exactly 1 ncaa tournament game and has a 55% win percentage.

But Boynton is emotional on the sideline!! That’s what matters, right?!? I mean, we heard on this board after the Big XII tournament last year that he and Shaka were both great coaches poised to take their programs to the next level. :)

Guys...stop making fun of one of Boynton's players....you are going to make him cry

I remember most posters saying Shaka is a good recruiter but an average coach.

Personally, I thought Boynton was a much better coach than I have seen this season so far. His best attribute was his ability to get his players to play hard. I saw that in bits and pieces last night, but nothing like before, except for Isaac Likekele. He was lights out determined to win from the opening tap to the final buzzer. He almost single handily kept the Pokes in the game. He just didn’t have much help.

I have some close friends at OSU that see Boynton as the next Travis Ford. He'll get good players but needs better players than everyone else to win and that won't happen at OSU.

Well they better hope he improves since he makes $2.1 mill thru the 2028 season

Agree 1000% and have said the same thing.

Prior to last season, he was barely over .500, a losing record in conference (finishing 6th, 9th, and 8th), and never sniffed the NCAA tournament. If it wasn't for hiring CC's brother and thereby signing him, he would have started 2020-21 on a very hot seat. He gets a lot of credit for recruiting, but either he is equally inept at coaching or can't evaluate talent very well, as once they get to Stillwater he does little with the talent ranking he signs.

Travis Ford and Shaka Smart may not have been great coaches either, but they lap Boynton when it comes to coaching. With the job Otzelberger is doing in year 1 at ISU, it would not be a stretch to say Boynton is probably the worst actual coach in the Big XII.

And he owes about every penny of his long-term deal last year to Cade Cunningham.

Very true. Of course, the result of two extremely close games against us in 48 hours last season also caused many of our fans to anoint him.
