Do you think Newell will end up playing PG or SG more after this season?
Case for PG
- built like a PG
- quick and ideal for covering lead guards
- seems to do his best work with ball in hands
Case for SG
- a scorer first
- Capel talks about him being a SG right now and trying to convert him to a PG, so right now it appears to be his more natural position
- the staff is still actively recruiting PGs in Cezar Guerro and Eli Carter

My two cents is that OU can get one of their PG targets he will end up as a 2 and I would be ok with that. In fact I like him and Pledger as SG options for next year.

I don't get PG vibes from him.. He does have the ability to create for others but it isn't as high as Blairs offensive awareness.. 40 cal also has below average dribbling skills for a PG so that leads me to him being an off guard

If he is quick as he looks he can play the 2 in college. He gets guys the ball when they can shoot. Blair doesn't actually do that good. Probably should be a Hollis type 2 with point guard capabilities.

I see him being a shooting guard that will be called upon to guard super quick point guards from time to time

He will be a combo guard throughout his career, playing both. But I think he can become a point guard.

Mookie played the 2G his Jr season, then took over the Point his Sr year and played PG in the NBA for years....I think Newell could do both as well.

I'm not saying Newell is close to Mookie...but is too good and fast with the ball in his hands to not play some point.

I say get my man 40 CAL the ball and let him shoot. I don't care where he plays, I just want him on the court. He brings energy and is excited to play.

I think Newell is a lead or combo guard, but I don't see that as a bad thing. True point guards are a rare commodity at the college level these days, the NBA too for that matter.

Blair is an excellent passer with great court vision who knows how to run the offense. But if Newell can improve his handles and learn to get his teammates involved in the offense, he'll be the odds-on favorite to win the job. Carl is not a good defender (understatement), and I have my doubts if he will ever be able to overcome that one glaring weakness.
